Brian preached on Tribe's eighth birthday, using Jesus' teaching on new wine and old wineskins from Luke 5 as a lens to look back at what the last several years have actually done to the church. The sermon was less a single argument and more a guided review of eight things the Holy Spirit has been shifting in Tribe's life together. He framed the whole conversation around the question of whether people were willing to construct new wineskins to hold what God is pouring out, or whether they would keep reaching for the old.
What was said
The setup was COVID, not because COVID itself matters, but because it was a Rubicon moment the way September 11 was. Brian argued that the Lord used that season to release new wine across the church worldwide, and that most churches scrambled to get back to what they had before and missed it. The opportunity was real, but receiving new wine requires new wineskins, and wineskins are not free or handed out. Something has to die for one to be made.
Brian was careful to say that none of this is a license to look down on churches or denominations that went a different direction. The point was not to feel superior but to be honest about what Tribe has been trying to do. He named eight things the Holy Spirit has been pouring into that new wineskin over these years, and walked through each of them.
The first was the conversational format the church now meets in, which he said probably looks less like a modern church service and more like the early church actually did. The second was the high priority of cultivating a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit, which opened into a real back-and-forth with the congregation about what that actually looks like, including prayer, listening to small nudges, obedience, and a personal prayer language.
The third was honoring what Brian called the Lord's family traditions, the seven feasts of the Lord, as a way of staying in sync with God's calendar. The fourth was the concept of buying oil for your lamp, drawn from the parable of the ten virgins. Brian was direct that no pastor, no format, and no worship service can supply someone else's oil. Oil is purchased through surrender, through small acts of obedience, through the crushing and pressing that produce it.
The fifth and sixth points were connected: a post-tribulation understanding of the rapture and an anticipation of hardship rather than an escape from it. Brian said that if you believe you will be removed before things get hard, you will be unprepared when the pressing comes, and the pressing is exactly what buys the oil. The persecuted underground church around the world, he said, understands this in a way that comfortable American Christianity often does not. Tied directly to that was the seventh point, the Maranatha cry and a developing heart for Israel, things Brian acknowledged he did not preach about even five years ago.
The eighth was the word he said the Lord gave Tribe for 2024: look for clarity in complexity. As the world becomes harder to read, he said those with new wineskins and eyes to see will find that God is speaking clearly into the noise. He closed by returning to the wineskin image and warning, gently, that there will come a day when the store is closed, borrowing from the parable, and that the old wine was good, but what the Lord is pouring now is worth making room for.

This is fun. In our little nest. And today is tribe's eighth birthday. Everybody say happy birthday, truck. So it was a few years ago, maybe, I don't know, maybe our wife, our first birthday, I can't remember.
I was a group thread with other pastors of the Valley and I texted Ben and Ray and I guess Aaron was around at the time and Eric had said other pastors churches in the Valley that I visit with. And I said, hey, would you just like send a little happy birthday message to Tribe? And I don't know if you remember that video, but you know, everybody said these nice things within Ray and Carl from First Bee are like, Happy birthday tribe, it's your first birthday. And Carl's like, I mean, we've had 900.

I've been
in two weeks. And said, not tired. But it wasn't everyone. It was really awesome. So I got to treat a couple of happy birthday texts with other pastors from the Valley.

And then we're going to dive into what we're gonna talk about today. And so I would like to invite somebody to read out loud for us Luke chapter five verse 33 through 39 Luke chapter five verse 33 through 39 call it in the VIP section back there Scott Got it.
A question about fasting. Then they said to him, John's disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink. Jesus said to them, you can't make the wedding guests fast while the groom is with them, can you? But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast in those days.
He also told them a parable. No one tear tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise, not only will he tear the new one, but also the piece from the new garment will not match the gold. Then no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will birch the skins.
They will
spill and the skins will be ruined. No new wine is put into fresh wineskins and no one after drinking old wine wants new because he says the old is better.
So at the first service is our second service. At the first service, I lost my train of yeah, I got it back.
You stopped tending again.
Yes, I did. I did. I did. At the first service, Joy, upon red, and she says, I have a little frowny face after that buzz. But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine.
The old is just fine, they say. And that is just so true of really all of us. All of us really are creatures of habit. And and our default mode, just because we're human, is to say, like, I I always go to the Virginian for breakfast after trip. Why would I go anywhere else?
That's just what you do. We're all creatures of of habit. And Jesus knows that and he acknowledges that. He knows us individually and corporately so well that he's like, I also just need to let you know I know you. I know.
So if you're taking notes this morning, at the top of your notes, you can write the title of our conversation, Little Lionskins Per Se. That's what we're gonna talk about. And if how many of you have, really got if you're a Star Wars fan and you've gotten into maybe like like, you know, on the Disney series, the Mandalorian, like the that spin off series? Like the anime. Okay.
I'll it in. Good. Yes. Good. Stormwater spirits unite.
Or or maybe, like, the Rings of Power, like like, the spin off of The Sugar Rings. Okay? It's so, like, each one of those episodes is so great and so rich, but I am kinda, like, like dull. And so what I like to do is to watch the, those YouTube videos where they unpack the episode or they do the review of the episode because there's so much there. Was like, oh, I missed that.
But I missed that. And oh yeah, wow. It's just so I like to enjoy, I like to, I get so much more enjoyment out of each episode when I watch like the fifteen minute recap or like the Easter egg, video about the movie or the show. And today for tribe's eighth birthday, what I thought I would do is is zoom out and and spend a few minutes talking about kind of the big picture, some of the macro themes and paths and trails that the Lord has taken upside down for the last couple of years. And I want to start by talking about this idea of new wine and wine skids.
During COVID or as COVID you know, rolled across the world and Jackson was not immune from the effects of COVID. Remember that weird spring break when they closed the village early, They were like, why this happened? So everybody went and skied on the pass. And then like whoever the day is, we're like, we'll close down the pass if you quit, like, unless you stop hanging out on top of the pass and skiing together. They were like, oh.
And then spring break, in Teton County School District hit. And then everybody's like, okay, fine. I can't ski. Let's all go to Moab. And then before, and then before, just before spring break, like let out, Moab was like, don't come here.
And they basically like, like they flew all the national parks. And it was so, it was so weird. And in a way, in a way, like you didn't even know, like, could you catch COVID from petting a dog? The house was like, remember all that. Do it so, and make things coming.
So the spring, I talk, I do talk about COVID, huddle maybe a lot here because not because of COVID, like who cares, but it was such a seminal event that the hands of time shifted. It was a Rubicon moment that some people keep finding themselves like this old wine tin. I just want to go back to the way it was. The world has changed for better or for worse. We cannot go back.
Similar if you remember the days of 09/11. Like, gone are the days when you get to go through airport security with your shoes on. Like, in so many, like, like young people that we love on here at Tribe have never known anything else than going through airport security, which you're shunned on. I remember when, not that I did, but I remember the smoking section of an airplane.
I used to get sick.
We've crossed we've crossed a Rubicon that that the world is not going that trend. And in many ways during COVID, the Lord released an opportunity around the world, in within the church, not just in America, but the church universal and triumphant to go through a a metamorphosis in many ways, in many ways when COVID happened, it was like an opportunity to, to go into a chrysalis, like a cocoon for a caterpillar. And what came out, Arnold, the cocoon after COVID really depended a lot on what you did with your time during quarantine. Did you just check out and veg how crushing episodes of lying of tiger? Shake, knit,
knit, thoppy. Oh, was it Lion King? Bloody, yes.
It's time. Yes. Or did you watch rewinds of Lion King? Or, or did, did you allow the Lord to just change your heart? And I don't want to be
more there
spiritual than I am for two reasons. Somewhat, it's not authentic. Number two, you know me better than that. Number three, I just, I just really don't like false impressions that I would ever try to portray of myself. But kicking and screaming, I do feel like I was able to take advantage of that time during COVID.
And what emerged was a different perspective on what I thought success in ministry and building a church was. And really our whole tribe family came through COVID different than when we began. And I feel like what the Lord did during COVID to switch metaphors from a cocoon now to this new wine is that during COVID, the Lord says, I have new wine to release. New wine. We all want the new wine.
But very few of us are willing to either purchase or construct a new wine skin. Here's what we want as humans. We want the new wine poured into what? Our old, safe, reliable, steady, heavy, tried and fruit wineskins. But Jesus says you can't pour new wine into to old wineskins.
So what do most people do? They say,
That will
That will take the new line. I'll just, I'll just stick with the old line. It's worked fine. Better get it. What's wrong with the old line?
I really believe that around the world, the Lord used the events of four years ago to release new wine. And there was an opportunity for churches, denominations, individuals, countries, you know, scale it up or scale it down to receive that new wine. But what is required first?
We're
refining new wineskins. Now are those handed out? No. Is the new wine handed out? Let them know.
Feed out by spirit. Yeah. The new wine is it it can be released, but but there's no place to search the scriptures. Is there anywhere that says that you can just get free wine skins? No.
No. No. New wineskins must be either constructed or purchased. And looking around this room, I know that that all of you have accurate historical imaginations about what I'm talking about when I say a new wine skin. Right?
Not everybody walked around with big Stanley glasses and the straw.
There it is.
Today's modern wineskin. It was either plain, maybe a stone vessel, but not very portable and slightly fragile. But if you wanted to take whatever it was you were drinking with you you had to have a flask or literally a skin usually the stomach of an animal, a sheep, a goat or something. You cure it. You can stitch it up and you can pour new wine into it so that as it ferments it expands.
And then when it's done fermenting then you could uncork it and you would have new wine to drink. The reason why you didn't put new wine into old wineskins is those skins that already stretched and were at capacity to hold that wine. And so if you were to pour new wine that needed to ferment and with the off gassing expand, it would rupture the old wineskin. And then what two things would be lost? Beat the wineskin and the loin skin.
Both ruin. New wine requires new wineskin. Wineskins are not free. Nobody walks down the street and says, oh, look, a wineskin. Free.
Instead, what has to happen for a new wineskin to be constructed? What what's what's the one thing? Start the word starts with a d. That. Yeah.
I'm just thinking of this right now.
You know? Thought people like, dad returned this.

So Jesus has new wine to release. And I wrote this in my notes. I believe that God used COVID to release new wine for his church, and few churches in America constructed new wine scab. I don't have my finger on the pulse of all of the churches in The United States, but from what little I do know and understand, there was such a mad scrambling to just get back to the way things were. They completely suffered me with this.
The opportunity to receive the new wine of what the Holy Spirit is doing. That that I also wrote this in my notes. Very important for me to say. I understand that that statement carries the potential for me or you or for us to pick up an elitist mindset. We're crueler than everybody else because we know something that nobody else knows or we have some sort of secret or, and it puts us in a position of giving us a superior advantage that that is a slippery slope to an elitist mindset.
Gross. Gross. If what I'm saying is true, I believe with all of my heart that it is and that it's from the Lord otherwise I wouldn't be saying it, that the Lord did release new wine. And only those churches or individuals or groups, denominations that took advantage of that season to purchase, to construct. Your new wineskins can receive that new wine that the Lord is pouring out.
And if there is a church that or denomination or whatever that you're thinking of, that's like, oh, man, that's really like, that makes a lot of sense. And, and they're like that. Oh, that is not a license or permission or an opportunity for you to poo poo that. Like that's that's not cool. And that's not why the Lord would bring us to this place.
We can only think about us as a tribe family. And if you're visiting from out of town or from another church, then it's an opportunity for you to be introspective person. Right? Will that the Lord and Jesus as the head of the church to deal with other churches or denominations about their thing. Right?
That's their for us as a tribe fan, I feel like we took advantage of this past season to construct new wineskins. For example, literally look at where we are in this room right now. This is probably the most unlike a church service that you've ever sat in in your whole life, but has probably historically been looked more like the church than it has looked like with a big stay and a million dollar production budget and hazers and in ear monitors and confidence monitors are like sacraments. Great. Awesome.
Great. Ephesian confidence monitor. Fantastic. But it's not what, what the Lord had for us. And so if we think of today's conversation, like a, a recap video, I want to have a discussion with us about what is that new wine that the Lord has released that has changed us as a tripling.
And in thinking and considering and praying about it, there are eight things that I want us to just touch on briefly. Eight things. If you're ready, say I'm ready. What is this new one that the Lord has released for us here at tribe? Number one, we've already touched on a little bit, a different format for conducting our meetings.
As I look around the room, some of us kept on a lot of life in ministry together. Some of us have been, I mean we could be going on close to three decades of life in ministry together. And for a lot of those years of ministry I have followed the format of what just about every other church in America does. Like the sage on the stage and, I speak and you just listen, But COVID disrupted all of it. And as a result, the new wine being poured out of this different format for us, not just for me to talk, but for us to have a conversation.

It was a production.
You know? And the intimacy and the size of these groups, it allows you to get to know people. It allow up to at the participation part of it. And it's amazing how much I'm grown since then in in the word and in the studies because of the size of this.
I love this. This this format fosters an environment for deeper engagement with the text and with each other and with, with me. And I really, I really love it. You just get to know each other, getting to know each other. Now, now I don't want to, anything I say about what I love about our format or about Tribe, don't hear what I'm not seeing.
I'm not seeing any of these things at the expense of just,
no. And we still love praying clientele.
Absolutely. Dear friends Valerie. But this it's, it's funny.
It's it's whatever turns your pretty, you know. This turns it for us.
This is my friend. Also, I also have a firm personal conviction. I know that you don't disagree, but it's worth saying. I also have a firm conviction, a personal conviction that the Lord picks your church. Right?
When we moved to Tulsa, I mean, couldn't throw a rock without hitting a church and like the next church was better than the previous one. And we tried engaging or like getting plugged into one church and we were like, that's not what I had for you. And we ended up at a different church and it was exactly what the Lord had for us. And, I want you wherever the Lord calls you. The Bible says those who are planted in the house of the Lord our God shall Lord.
That's right.
Find your tribe and sink roots in there and lurch. Number two, somebody in old hall of
shits. I
mean the weather's bad, where else are you gonna be able to withstand your thought?

And the brethren. Just
re spill the rice tea. We'll then get to point number four. She'll be fine. Number one, a different format for conducting our meetings. This is the new wine that the Holy Spirit is pouring out for us.
Number two, the highest priority of cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit. We've talked about this so much in the last four years. The high priority of cultivating a relationship with the person of the Holy Spirit. And this is a good opportunity for me to check-in with you. I'm not looking for Sunday school answers, but but you tell me what works for you, and how would you define cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit?
What personal practices do you employ to cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit? What do you do? I talk to him all the time. I talk to him all the time. I ask him about this the silliest thing.
I was moving a 50 pound bag of cubes yesterday and said, Lord, I need your angels to help me because I've hurt my back. And he did. I that that did not weigh 50 pounds to me. So talking to him. I talk to him all the time.
Mean, he's such a blessing. I just gotta say because
if they saw me receiving a smarty pillow, when I can't sleep at night, then so comes to my mind. So

What is there was a there was a song that people sing at Easter. Is. An old one? It's an old one. Oh, but but there's a but there's a special tag that's not in the official lyrics.
It says, but the little tag, the lady just kind of spontaneously says it and she goes, because I talked with him this morning, he's
been a lot
of That predicaments. Yes. Oh, I'm just hollering at him. I just love that. What else?
So continue a conversation.
You have to invite him in.
Inviting him. Inviting him in. Man, that's so good. I mean, listen, let's be honest. There are plenty of rooms in the house of our heart that we are like, come on in, come on in, be the honored guest.
You don't need to see as if he doesn't already know it. But inviting him in. Yeah. Yeah.
I find just listening, like listening to those little imponitions in your daily life that you that appreciate I mean, it's absolutely don't think twice about where you say, oh, I'm just thinking that. But actually applying that to the Holy Spirit. And if you're with Jesus, then the Holy Spirit is speaking to you all the time and actually taking the to listen.
Listen and like go hand in hand like a left and right foot. Listen and obey. So, oh, so I don't maybe this is what you're saying and you can be like, no, that's not what I said. But but listening to those little nudges and slow acts of obedience.
Yeah. That too.
Listening and obey. I find
most people don't even hear it. That's who obey. Right. Because we just, we brush it off as, oh, no. That's nothing.
But looking for those moments of him speaking to you.

Good morning. Alright. First Inviting inviting him. Yes. Conversation, learning his word.
When is his word actually saying?
Are you spending time with his children talking to him in English, using your, your prayer language. The Bible says that that he who speaks in tongues built himself up. The Bible says you pray the perfect prayer. You're praying in unity, with God's heart. He says, there's an exhortation in the New Testament, like pray all the time.
Pray in the spirit on all occasions and probably how you've read it in, in your Bible. And so many people get hung up on like, oh, of all, might get hung up on like, is that even for today? It's in the Bible. Paul says, would be to God that you would all pray in tongues. But what most people get hung up on is what I would describe as the corporate or public expression.
And whatever there is, this would be where a public gathering. Whenever there is an expression of of the gift of tongues in a corporate setting, it should always be accompanied with interpretation that that's in the Bible. But additionally, God talks about and encourages us and invites us into the practice of what I would just call a personal or a private prayer language. How do you cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit? You take your intellectual brain in line and you don't completely divorce yourself from it, that's not what God wants.
But you say, on, hold on, take a back seat for just a second. You sit this one out. When I pray in English, the prayer has to come from my spirit up through my brain and then out my mouth. The Bible says that when a person prays in the spirit that they are praying a perfect prayer and only God knows. My brain doesn't understand.
It's encrypted information. The enemy doesn't understand. And it's a way of telling my flesh, you're not the boss in here. But your spirit man is the boss. And there's so much more to say about that.
But we got Doctor,

to sit? I do that. Make this really quick. It's like
I kinda do I separate, bang, from myself speaking at clients who have weak language. Take so when I'm praying in in English, and a lot of times they get bored. I don't know. To to pray, that's the truth. You know?
It's like, zap. But there I know there's more that needs to be prayed. Now I'll switch and start praying in my heavenly light. Sometime I go for fifteen, twenty minutes. I don't know where the time went
Sure. To just evaporate. Because because your English vocabulary has like run out, but you've got more to say.
Yeah.
That's when your spirit man says, Hey, go get a Gatorade. Like, ketchup bread, yogurt cup a second. And let the grown ups talk. Right? The Bible says that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
That we are new creations in Christ automatic. All the redeeming that needs to happen happens at the moment of conversion.
Yep.
I was like, can I have one more? I'm like,
oh, I will
speak up right
now, but I will.
So I it's almost like an elephant in the room. Right? Like, during COVID, I've read for hours, and I was like, oh, I'm in my cozy little space with the holy spirit. And then we started meeting together.
I'm like, no. I just wanna watch 1,000,000.
I get Tim Coppin, made him a cheek, honey. So I'm so I
fucked you up. Right.
And the lord was like, you are Trudillo shit. And I'm an introvert and I'm sensitive. So if, you know, somebody ignores me or whatever, then I have to deal with that and I get arrested. However, there's some meetings where, like, for example, Lee would give a word and I was like, boom. What?
That wouldn't have happened had I not been in the room with this specific group of people at that specific time
Yes.
Where the Holy Spirit was like, I'm so real.
The Greek word is koinonia. Like, just this unique group organic gathering for the Holy Spirit to to to use a churchy word, manifest himself and through through contributions, questions, anecdotes, connections. And the Hebrews ten twenty five says do not forsake the gathering of the saints.
And that's the obedience part.
A different format for conducting our meetings, the high priority of cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Number three, celebrating the Lord's family tradition. So you might if you're not familiar with tribe, you might have you might not know what that means, but you would understand the church, the Jewish feast. We're not a Jewish church. Our messiah is Jewish.
Our rulers are are Jewish. God invites his family into traditions. And if you if you want to think of them as a Jewish feast, they're okay. That's that's fine. The Bible says these are my feasts.
The the Lord says these are my feasts. These are my family tradition. And we honor, we don't go overboard, but we honor the seven major family traditions of the Lord. And it helps us do three things, to remember, to recalibrate, and to lay cursory. So as we're coming out of Comeden, Stavrosh will be seeing new life.
I need you to walk closely with me. Well, how do we walk closely with you? I mean, do you get in sync with me? How do you get in sync with me? Here's one way.
Here's seven ways.
I have a time.
Send an interesting statement. Number four. This one is super important. We've been touching on it a lot of different ways. Buying oil for your land.
We talked a lot about this during and coming out of Covid. Buying oil for your land. So many Christians have a really good looking lamp and completely neglect the fuel source. We just say, that's a really great looking lamp. You go through the motions, do all the right things to say the right things.
But in the stillness, in the secret place of your heart, there's none or very little oil. And then in the church world, what people do is when they run out of oil and they have not realized it, or they they're just coasting along like, like I've run out of oil, but like, I didn't get struck with lightning. Like, guess everything is okay. I mean, parable of the 10 virgins, they all, all of their lamps were, were not burning at the time that the bride's room appeared because they had to wake up and they had to trim their legs. They had to turn, they had to light their lamps.
But five of them were caught out in the cold because they did not have enough oil for their land. Then what did they do? They turned to the five wide five whys and said what? Can I answer the best of me? Can I answer the of what did the five whys say?
I'll be out. Sorry. Out of luck, Chuck. Go get your all of us. And was that mean?
What about what about loves thy neighbor? Well, shouldn't you share that you've got extra oil? Shouldn't you share what those in need?
Oil becomes your intimacy. So you can't share because you can't cultivate someone else's intimacy with the Lord.
Words on the scripture. Let no death bury their own death. My how that fits with
It's not it's not about evil
in this. I know. We can be dead or loyal. Yeah. Yeah.
So
no. But do you honor Willy Seamus? Yeah.
Yes. Right. Sober you. I'm I'm sorry. You cannot burn your lint off of somebody else's oil.
Now a good parent will raise their child in the way that they should go so that when they are older they will not depart from it. And so your goal as a parent is to teach your children how to buy one. Your goal as a parent is to like siphon off some of yours for their land, but that only goes out little weddings. Right? And the things that when I buy oil, it's for, right?
You can sit under the world's greatest orator of God's wooden and be oilless, dry as a bone. And that's why you get a critical spirit. That message I'm hitting and preaching five years ago, you're thinking that the worshiper is supposed to supply you with oil. You're thinking that the format or the venue is supposed to supply you with oil. Well this this I'll just drink the old wine and the old wine I'm teaching here.
The old wine and old wineskin is in cooking and yogurt because there's no oil in your lamp. Really? To be married?
What the hell?
And I think it's
a slippery slope as you
can expect that they are supposed to give you oil. Sure.
Oh, like you are. You're linked to the like, you you put them on a pedestal because, you know, elder gifting or whatever. And
then you're raveling and you
follow the New York Times or whatever.
Or when they turn out to be a real human.
Yes. That's all. Alright.
Now let me also say this for pastors. Me steel man a pastor's well meaning heart. They love you so much that if they could at all share some of their oil, they would just keep coming back. Like, they just keep like, please read your bible. If I could, I would read your bible for you.
I was if I could just come up with a clever sermon series or this amazing object lesson or this video. If I just, if I just could, I would. Believe it. And yet mistakenly, they think that they can supply you with oil. And mistakenly you buy in and say, okay, you supply me with oil.
And that equation doesn't zero act.
Very bad.
Question. So in the parable of the virgins having when they're like, hey, go get your own oil. Where did they go? To get it?
Okay. Right. Let's answer that question and go to a a even harder question, a a truce, by the way, a harder answer to wrestle with. You can't just go, what was it? And like like Mustard.
Mustard. Where did they have to go? Right. Where did they have to go? In the parable.
Out on the street. How did
they go? Not on the street. Not in Bible. In the parable. Matthew chapter 25, because you need to refresh yourself really quick, Marte Kediger, to where who learned towards the market.
Go to the store, go to the market and get your own. Like the actual impaired. Now why he could have said, he could have said go back to your parents. He could have said anywhere. But he said go up to, instead of the market, we don't really ask market so much, so we'll just say store.
Go to the store. What do you do at stores? Exchange. You buy things. This is what Jesus is talking about.
Oil has to be purchased. There must be an exchange.
So in it as a spiritual analogy then is the oil distributors, God? The body. Like, well.
So, who's the store?
Who's the market? Yeah.
Okay. It's okay. So, so the the shopkeeper. So we're talking about the literal oil.
Oh, in the parable in
in the parable of Matthew chapter 25, you gotta go buy oil for yourself. If there was a if it was a matter of literally having oil, churches like around the world would be like, look in our world. You know, so it is a metaphor, was something spiritual. And we're going to talk about deception in just a moment. But to go on with your line of thought, the shopkeeper, the store owner is the Lord.
Okay. You can, you only can go to him, not your pastor, It's the Lord. Okay, there must be an exchange. You have to buy. What is the currency of buying?
Body. Alright. Let's you're on the right track. Yes. You're on the right track.
Let's take now let's jump back to olive oil. Okay. How is olive oil produced?
Right
at olive tree.
Flushing and pressing above the olives. The farmer doesn't go up to an olive and be like, could you just give a little bit of oil for oh, thank you. Select fat backpack, the olives, and off he goes. The olives have to be part of a stick, and then they have to be pressed and crushed in order to release the olive's oil. So now let's talk about, not necessarily, what is the but how do we purchase the How does an individual purchase the what we just said, we talked about placing a high priority on buying oil.
How is oil for your land purchased? Submission, could die. Submission. Separate my surrender. Dining to yourself.
Now let's come back to what Jacob just said. He is bopping along on his day. That still small voice of the Holy Spirit says something, he listens, then he has a choice whether to obey or not. Oh, is that mean talking? Oh, is that just a random thought that popped into my head?
Is that really you Holy Spirit? That's the crushing right there. Okay, let's see what happens. And you step out in that small act of obedience. When you surrender, that's the crushing.
Amen.
When you obey, whether or not the person miraculously jumps up from their mat, healed or not, that that's not your department. When you submit and step out in obedience, that's what buys the oil. That's the purchase. And it's so basic. And it's so profound.
And it's so hard. And it's so easy. Ephesians. Imagine if you're buying oil, imagine if buying oil, like if you've seen like these National Geographic videos of of of people trying to make a pilgrimage to Tibet and they have these like, these leather, like, like wound hand things and like elbow things and this thing. And they, they, they, they make a pilgrimage for thousands of vials to the holy city of Lauset and they take one step and they bow down and they prostrate themselves in the direction of the temple.
They stand up, they take one step, a journey of thousands of miles to the holy city. And they have to like wear all these like, like reinforced skin of the kids and it just wears out. What if buying oil were like that? All you have to do is all these religious things. That's what man tries to do.
We always try to make religion out of it. The smallest act of obedience, Jesus says, you can't even give a cup of cold water in my name without me being like, I see that, here comes the Lord. How are you living in me? Oh, in his exchange, I mean, he's running wildly saint. Like every single act of obedience will yield tenfold oil.
It's the dirty devil that says check your pockets. You don't have money. Why don't you even go into this store? That is a life of the enemy. The Bible says that we have been given the faith the size of a what?
If you only have that much, that's enough. Now I said that there were two parts to what you were saying and that there was gonna be even harder part. According to the parable, what happened to the five foolish rageans who went to the store? It's 10 They'll kill him. It was Right at the bottom.
Is it? Three. The star was closed. I'm telling you right now with all sobriety because I love you. There will come a day where it will be too late to buy oil, and you must burn your lamp with whatever supply you And you can imagine what that would look like to play out in reality.
But Jesus said, I'm gonna tell you. Let's get to
get back over. You need go fight. Oh, number four.
We're on five. Buying oil free land. How do you how do you buy oil free land? Embracing the pressing and the crushing and dying to yourself. That's what purchases oil.
Number five, what is this new wine? This idea and concept of the rapture of the saints at the end of the tribulation. You cannot, in Scripture, you cannot separate the return of Jesus and the rapture of the saints and the church. And Jesus returns at the end of the tribulation. If you don't believe me, his words are actually recorded in Matthew chapter 24.
He says, and then at the end. So we have been talking a lot about this and that's as far as I'm gonna go into that because we only have eight more clients. But you can go back and look. So along with that is anticipating tribulation because if incorrect teaching would say, don't worry, you'll be poofed out before things get hard. It is literally tribulation and the pressing and the crushing that produces oil.
Imagine how disillusioned and disheartened you'd be if like, well, I'm I'm gonna get poofed out of here. Like, I got just no more on my neck. And then, like, the dark night comes and you run out of oil. So if you have adopted a mindset, and I will say this to be a little bit fair, pre tribulation rapture, mid tribulation rapture and post tribulation rapture, you can make an argument for all three by looking at the text. But when you consider all of Jesus' work and the whole counsel of scripture, my theological opinion is that you can only rightfully land on a post tribulation rapture.
And it is the post tribulation rapture that helps frame our perspective of hardship and difficulty. Because we don't think, oh, it's getting hard. I should get zapped out of here. It gets hard and we think, oh, it's a chance to buy boys. The pressing, the crushing, the persecution, the rejection, the hardship.
It's all opportunity to buy a boil.
It's interesting too when you look at, I've been really fascinated lately with American, like, Christian theology, like, how as, like and our ideology as Americans and our comfort society has influenced a lot of short modern churches theology. And you go to any other country, like countries East Asia, like, they know that that is their time together. What? They're suffering now. Yes.
So it's all new churches, like secret churches. Like, it's it's not guaranteed that, like, the person sitting next to
you is
gonna show up to church next. Yes. They might be gone. That's it. Pray that.
And If they're willing to show up.
It's the underground church. It's the persecuted church around the world that is is so oily. They're slipperier than a greased pig and a finale week. And knowing and knowing that. It's knowing that God loves that.
Ew. There's so much text in the Bible about our suffering and about the righteousness that
brings. Yeah. That
that why would you test?
Endurance. Endurance. Endurance. And he says endurance is what you mean. How about the apostles?
The apostles are what they went through. Yeah. Yeah. Only John the apostle died of old age, we can assume. But after he was a tender poison or boiled, slipperier than a greased pig at fairways.
We don't have time to unpack this, number six, the Maranatha cry. Number six, the Maranatha cry. It is an Aramaic phrase that means the Lord has come and will come again. I believe that when we have a proper biblical understanding of the return of Jesus, the rapture of the church, and calibrates our heart to to cry out for and eagerly anticipate the return of Jesus so that we would say, Meronah, the Lord has come and is coming again. And dovetail right in with that beautifully is developing a heart for Israel.
Those of you who has been with me on this journey for two decades or more know that I didn't talk about these things even five years ago. But this is just the the chrysalis that that I have emerged from. That that the direction that God is taking our tribe family. I mean, Greenland's you went on you twenty plus years. I ever preached about Baranatha, the return of Jesus, tribulation, Israel, never that once until just a few years ago.
But that was number seven. Number eight. Here we are.
Not that being number eight.
This is the word this is the word that I feel like the Lord put on our heart for the year 2024 as we went into January. It's rapidly coming to a conclusion. And if we were to look back at old and tap it in just this year alone, but he says, look for clarity in complexity.
We know that you would
as the world gets exponentially complex, I will be doing and speaking and saying things for those of you who purchased a new wineskin, those of you with eyes to see and ears to hear, things are gonna get so much worse. I will provide clarity for you in the bits of an ever increasingly complex world in geopolitical landscape. The last thing that I'll say this time closing my Bible, we got those eight points is why do I even need a new wine skin? In the book of Ecclesiastes, it says for everything there is a season.
And
you will be left with whatever amount of old wine that you insist on holding on to in your old wineskin and will miss out on the new washing of what the Holy Spirit is doing here at Tribe and around the words. And I would say to you that you would be sweat and asylum. Jesus says, when I return, it will be like in the days of Noah. You just want to have people will be, eating and drinking, getting married. So I say feeding and breeding.
Like it's always been, there's nothing that new, nothing that different than the dad. And it says that they were absolutely gobsmacked when that first raindrop hit their forehead completely unprepared and unaware. And I don't want that for me, for my family and for our tribe. The old wine that you had been enjoying wasn't that delicious, Wasn't it water? Wasn't it quirks?
Didn't it bring joy, peace to our hearts? Didn't it set us free? Didn't it us and encourage us? What rate? New wine made a new rosy.
And as we go into our ninth rotation around the sun, the question is, will you purchase a new one and skip with a new one that the Lord's released? So, Lord, speak to us in our hearts with all of these things that we've talked about, Lord, that speak to us. What would you challenge me as, oh, how would you minister to us, holy spirit, miss Scott? Oh, I just hear the voice of the holy spirit saying, and there's this verse that a bruise reed, he'll not smash it, or a smoldering wick, he'll not snuggle it out. There could be just a tiny swage of oil left in your lamp.
And he says he's not going to say, well, thought you used to have a lot of oil. You used to burn bright. Now look at you. Pathetic. Yes.
He doesn't do that. He just said, flunk your gear. He ought to buy what I store in what? Bible says in the book of Psalm of Solomon, with one glance up your eye, you have ravished mine, lurked my beautiful one by black. When we even think about thinking about him, because heart reals and he's like, oh, amen.
Amen. We spend in songs, it says, my heart has heard you say, come and spend time with me, and my heart will place for me. Run to you. To to kill me. Thank you, Jesus.
The shopkeeper will hang a sign. Go flip it. One day. Shop. Sorry.
Close. Ten. Good. Sure.
We just say like songbird.
We're as close to the end of this service as I am to the door, but I don't want to rob you of one more way of worshiping the Lord. Worship the Lord. It was song. We worship the Lord by incinerating, honoring the word and it's discussed. We worship the Lord one more way through our tithes and our offerings.
And what an amazing way to, to surrender and to purchase oil by dying to yourself. We all had great financial demands. But what we sacrifice, we offer a proportion of our finances. It is a way of forcing ourselves around. And so I'll just pray really quickly over that apostle for you.
Lord Jesus, the job that we have, the place that we live, it all alone is a blessing and comes from you. Thanks. You. Just as our calendar is getting a little lean we get a call. Hey can you rip up this carpet put in this carpet.
Oh hey can you one more job. Thank you Jesus for one more job. Sweet. By way of telling you that we love you and we trust you, we surrender a portion of our finances to you because you're so good to us. True.
Thank you, Jesus. Father, I ask that you would receive these tithes and offerings. Use them to make your name famous here at Pride in Jackson Hall, the surrounding region, and to the ire most bounds of the river. Lord, thank you for the journey that you're taking us on just like the nation of Israel through the wilderness. You led them by steps and by stages. Thank you, Lord, that even though their route may seem circuitous, we're not gonna try to figure it out and straighten it out. Lee? Right?
