Yes, Lord. Lord, we need you. We need you. Let's sing that bridge again. Let's just let our hope rise that Lord, let that be a true prayer from our heart. Our hearts cry today. That we wouldn't just be like, oh, I want new wine. I want new wine, but we're not willing to be crushed or pressed. But Lord, when we're in your hands, when we trust you, we don't have to fully understand what's going on around us. All we have to do is lean into you. And I just feel the Lord just reminded me that in our prayers, a better question question that helps us grow deeper in his love and in understanding of him is not why. Yeah. Why, God? Why, God? But is what are you doing? What are you wanting to show me? What are you wanting to teach me? Because we know that you never leave us and you never forsake us. So if you're right there, you're showing us, you're teaching us, you're providing for us. So we just lean into you and create new wine in us and let us make a wine skin that can hold your presence, that can host your presence, that's ready for you. Yes. For what you're pouring into us. That's our prayer this morning. Yes. We pray as Brian brings a word and we dig into your word today that the spirit of revelation would come in this place that we would learn something new about you, that you would speak to us through your spirit. Yeah. That we will be changed today. Yes. That's our prayer in Jesus' name. In Jesus' name. Yes. Sleep. I have a word. Yes, please. Yeah. Go for it. You can face. You can whatever you wanna do. Okay. So as as as we were singing this this last worship song, new being crushed, new wine, and new power. And there's there's a scripture that has Lord recently brought to my mind that just really came strong. And that is that that watch and see the way that God does things and then fall into line. Don't fight the ways of God, and don't try to straighten out what God has made crooked. So now holy spirit, that's that's an interesting scripture. And I, for one, and most of us here probably go, okay. How does that apply to what this worship song that we were singing? New wine, new power, being crushed, being pressed. I don't know. But holy spirit, you so in unity with one voice here this morning, we we say, holy spirit, we can't figure this out on our own. We submit to you right now and ask that you would reveal reveal greater revelation, greater understanding of how the scripture applies to us. And then spirit of the living God help us to take that step forward when all of a sudden revelation comes to us. We don't ignore it. We don't bypass it. We stop. And we say, Lord, I'm willing to do that. I'm willing to go that way. I'm willing to lay this side aside or that aside. I am yours. We are yours. We thank you for that. We bless you, Jesus. Thank you. Amen. Amen. Just stay in this moment for just one minute longer. Maybe the Lord should put something on your heart. We believe he speaks to us, each one of us, by his holy spirit. Jesus, show us how to surrender. Yes. We don't know when we're holding things so tight that you can't even break loose. We thank you for your faithfulness. We thank you that you always come. You always meet us. Yes. That you don't have to, but you always You love us so much. Thank you that you are here right now in this place. Yes. You do not take it for granted. What a privilege that you come and you dwell amongst your people. Lord, search us. Search us this morning. Yes, Lord. If there would be anything in us, Lord, that would keep us this morning from feeling your presence, experiencing your presence, meeting you in this place, Lord, would you reveal it to our hearts? Yes. Help us to be quick to repent. We tell you we love you, Jesus. And everybody said, amen. Amen. What great worshipers. I always feel like we're in the upper room. It's like, I hear everybody. I'm hearing all the harmonies. And, like, I feel like people are driving by out there, woah. What's going on over there? Here? Say good morning to someone. There's some more coffee back there. Fill it up and then get your back up. This is fun. Here we are back at the TNC in our little in our little nest. And today is tribe's eighth birthday. Everybody say happy birthday, tribe. Happy birthday. So it was a it was a few years ago. Maybe I don't know. Maybe our life. Our first birthday, maybe. I can't remember. I was on a I was on a group thread with the other pastors of the Valley, and I said you know, I texted Ben and Ray and I guess Aaron was around at the time and and Eric. He said other pastors, churches in the Valley that I visit with. And I said, hey. Would you just, like, send a little happy birthday message to tribe? And I don't know if you remember that video, but, you know, everybody said these nice things. But then Ray and Carl from First Beep were like, happy birthday, Tribe. It's your first birthday. And Carl's like, I mean, we've had a 108. 11? That's tie. Hundred and eleven at the time. But it was really One of It was really it was really awesome. So I got to trade a couple of happy birthday tech texts with other pastors from the Valley, and they all said to say, hello, and happy birthday to you all. And that's what we're gonna talk about today as tribe's birthday. So if you have your bible with you this morning, would you turn to the book of Luke? And because I'm a dad and the pastor of this church, I get to say this. Please, let's take a Luke together in chapter five. Never gets old. Steve, I know you appreciate that. It was for you, Steve. Yep. Yep. Never Yep. Gets old. Luke chapter five. If anybody needs or wants a buckle, there's a stack over here. They are grateful for every day they get to use that facility, and we we love we love Ray and Carl and Mike Dee and the whole crew at First Beat. So we love those guys. Luke chapter five. We're gonna read passage of scripture together that I'm sure many of you have read lots of times before, and then we're going to to dive into what we're gonna talk about today. And so I would like to invite somebody to read out loud for us Luke Luke chapter five verse 33 through 39. Luke chapter five verse 33 through 39. Colin in the VIP section back there is going. Got it. A question about fasting. Then they said to him, John's disciples fast often and say prayers, and those of the Pharisees do the same, but yours eat and drink. Jesus said to them, you can't make the wedding guests fast while the groom is with them, can you? But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast in those days. He also told them a parable. No one tear tears a patch from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. Otherwise, not only will he tear the new one, but also the piece from the new garment will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will birch the skins, but it will spill and the skins will be ruined. No new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and no one after drinking old wine wants new because he says the old is better. So at the first service this is our second service. At the first service I lost my train of thought. Yeah. I got it back. You stuffed cinnamon. Yes. I did. I did. I did. At the first service, Joy Abad read, and she says, I have a little frowny face after that. But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. The old is just fine, they say. And that is just so true of really all of us. All of us really are creatures of habit. And and our default mode just because we're human is to say, like, I I always go to the Virginian for breakfast after church. Why would I go anywhere else? That's just what I do. We're all creatures of of habit. And Jesus knows that, and he acknowledges that. He knows us individually and corporately so well that he's like, I also just need to let you know I know you. I know you. So if you're taking notes this morning, at the top of your notes, you can write the title of our conversation, new wineskins for sale. That's what we're gonna talk about. And if how many of you have really got if you're a Star Wars fan and you've gotten into maybe, like, like, you know, on the Disney series, like, The Mandalorian, like, that spin off series. Okay. Yes. Okay. Alright. Alright. Good. Yes. Good. Star Wars nerds unite. Or or maybe like the rings of power, like like the spin off of the fellowship of the rings. Okay. It's so like each one of those episodes is so great and so rich, but I am kinda like like dull. And so what I like to do is to watch the those YouTube videos where they unpack the episode or they do the review of the episode because there's so much and I was like, oh, I missed that and I missed that and oh, yeah. Wow. It's just so I like to enjoy I like to I get so much more enjoyment out of each episode when I watch like the fifteen minute recap or like the Easter egg video about the movie or the show. And today for tribe's eighth birthday, what I thought I would do is is zoom out and and spend a few minutes talking about kind of the big picture, some of the the macro themes in paths and trails that the Lord has taken tribe down for the last couple of years. And I wanna start by talking about this idea of new wine and wine skids. During COVID or as COVID, you know, rolled across the world and and Jackson was not immune from the effects of COVID. Remember that weird spring break when they closed the village early? And we're like what is happening? So everybody went and skied on the pass and then like whoever they is were like we'll close down the pass if you quit like unless you stop hanging out on top of the pass and skiing together. People were like and then spring break in Teton County School District hit and then everybody's like okay fine I can't ski. Let's all go to Moab. And then before and then before just before spring break like let out Moab was like don't come here. And they basically like, like, they closed all the national parks. Remember? Oh my god. It was so it was so weird. And in a way in a way, like, you didn't even know, like, could you catch COVID from petting a dog of a house with, remember all that? So so I talk I do talk about COVID. I I don't know. Maybe a lot here because not because of COVID, like who cares? But it was such a seminal event a a that the hands of time shifted. It was a Rubicon moment that that some people keep finding themselves like this old wine tin. I just wanna go back to the way it was. The world has changed for better, for worse. We cannot go back. Similar if you remember the days of 09/11. Like, gone are the days when you get to go through airport security with your shoes on. Like and so many, like like, young people that we love on here at Tribe have never known anything else than going through airport security with your shoes on. I remember when not that I did, but I remember the smoking section of an airplane. Yeah. I used to get sick. We've crossed we've crossed the that that the world is not going back from. And in many ways during COVID, the Lord released an opportunity around the world, in within the church, not just in America, but the church universal and triumphant, to go through a a metamorphosis. In many ways in many ways when COVID happened, it was like an opportunity to to go into a a chrysalis, like a a cocoon for a caterpillar. And what came out of the cocoon after COVID really depended a lot on what you did with your time during quarantine. Did you just check out and veg out crushing episodes of line of Tiger King? No. Said lion king. Where did you watch rewinds of the lion king? Or or did did you allow the Lord to just change your heart? And I don't want to be more spiritual than I am for two reasons. Number one, it's not authentic. Number two, you know me better than that. Number three, I just I just really don't like false impressions that I would ever try to portray of myself. But kicking and screaming, I do feel like I was able to take advantage of that time during COVID. And what emerged was a different perspective on what I thought success in ministry and building a church was. And, really, our whole tribe family came through COVID different than when we began. And I feel like what the Lord did during COVID to switch metaphors from a cocoon now to this new wine is that during COVID, the Lord says, I have new wine to release. New wine. We all want the new wine, but very few of us are willing to either purchase or construct a new wine skin. Here's what we want as humans. We want the new wine poured into what? Our old, safe, reliable, steady, eddy, tried, and true wineskins. But Jesus says you can't pour new wine into to old wineskins. So what do most people do? They say Then I won't take the new wine. Then I won't take the new wine. I'll just I'll just stick with the old wine. It's worked fine. What's wrong with the old wine? I really believe that around the world, the Lord used the events of four years ago to release new wine. And there was an opportunity for churches, denominations, individuals, countries, you know, scale it up or scale it down to receive that new wine. But what is required first? New wine. New wineskins. Now are those handed out? No. Is the new wine handed out? No. He eat up by his spirit. Yeah. The new wine is it it can be released, but but there's no place. Search the scripture. Is there anywhere that says that you can just get free wineskins? No. I like that eyebrow. No. No. New wineskins must be either constructed or purchased. And looking around this room, I know that that all of you have accurate historical imaginations about what I'm talking about when I say a new wine skin. Right? Did not everybody walked around with big Stanley glasses and a straw that you can sure. Of course. There it is. Today's modern wineskin. It was either a clay, maybe a stone vessel, but not very portable and slightly fragile. But if you wanted to take whatever it was you were drinking with you, you had to have a flask or literally a skin, usually, the stomach of an animal, sheep, a goat, or something. You cure it. You can stitch it up, and you can pour new wine into it so that it as it ferments, it expands. And then when it's done fermenting, then you could uncork it and you would have new wine to drink. The reason why you didn't put new wine into old wineskins is those skins had already stretched and were at capacity to hold that wine. And so if you were to pour new wine that needed to ferment and with the off gassing expand, it would rupture the old wineskin. And then what two things would be lost? The wine and the wineskin. Both ruin. New wine requires new wineskin. Wineskins are not free. Nobody walks down the street and says, oh, look. A wineskin. In fact, what has to happen for a new wineskin to be constructed? What what's what's the one thing? Start the word starts with a d. Death. Death. I'm just thinking of this right now. I know. I haven't heard this before. I love having you right here. You do? Just bantering. Welcome to the Cincinnati's bible study this morning. Back and forth. Death has to occur. So Jesus has new wine to release. And I wrote this in my notes. I believe that God used COVID to release new wine for his church, and few churches in America constructed new wine scape. I don't have my finger on the pulse of all of the churches in The United States, but from what little I do know and understand, there was such a mad scramble to just get back to the way things were. They completely missed the opportunity to receive the new wine of what the holy spirit is doing. Now now I also wrote this in my notes. Very important for me to say. I understand that that statement carries the potential for me or you or for us to pick up an elitist mindset. We're cooler than everybody else because we know something that nobody else knows or we have some sort of secret or and and it puts us in a position giving us a superior advantage that that is a slippery slope to an elitist mindset. Gross. Gross. If what I'm saying is true, and I believe with all of my heart that it is and that it's from the Lord, otherwise, I wouldn't be saying it, That the Lord did release new wine. And only those churches were individuals or groups or denominations that took advantage of that season to purchase, to construct, new wineskins can receive that new wine that the Lord is pouring out. And if there is a church that or denomination or or whatever that you're thinking of that's like, oh, man. That's really like, that makes a lot of sense. And and they are like that. Oh, that is not a license or permission or an opportunity for you to poo poo them. Like, that's that's not cool, and that's not why the Lord would would bring us to this place. We can only think about us as a tribe family. If you're visiting from out of town or from another church then it's an opportunity for you to be introspective personally. Right? We'll let the Lord and Jesus as the head of the church to deal with other churches or denominations about their thing. Right? That's theirs. For us as a tribe family, I feel like we took advantage of this past season to construct new wineskins. For example, literally look at where we are in this room right now. This is probably the most unlike a church service that you've ever sat in in your whole life, but has probably historically been looked more like the church than it has looked like with a big stage and a million dollar production budget and hazers and inner monitors and confidence monitors and like like, it's great for them. Great. Awesome. Great. Have your confidence monitor. Fantastic. But it's not what what the Lord had for us. And so if we think of today's conversation like a a recap video, I want to have a discussion with us about what is that new wine that the Lord has released that has changed us as a Trifan. And in thinking and considering and praying about it, there there are eight things that I want us to just touch on briefly. Eight things. If you're ready, say I'm ready. Ready. What is this new wine that the Lord has released for us here at Tribe. Number one, we've already touched on a little bit, a different format for conducting our meetings. As I look around the room, some of us have done a lot of life and and ministry together. Some of us have been I mean, we could be going on close to three decades of life and ministry together. And for a lot of those years of ministry, I have followed the format of what just about every other church in America does. Like the sage on the stage. And I speak and you just listen. But COVID disrupted all of that. And as a result, the new wine being poured out of this different format for us, not just for me to talk, but for us to have a conversation. I love to hear from you. Your questions, your comments, your connections, And whether we're here at the TMC like we are today because there's an event at the Virginian Saloon this weekend or next week. Are we gonna be back at the Virginian? Yes. Yeah. So next week we'll be back at the Virginian. And roll. But I still love to have the conversational format where you can ask questions. We can engage with the content together. So part of the new one, number one, is this new format for conducting our meetings. Hi, Brian. May I how are Come on. Please. Plano, really, COVID brought us to tribe because no other church in the valley was open. Okay? Oh, yeah. That's right. And we weren't gonna wear a mask. We were those people. And we had visited tribe back when you guys were up at Snow King. Oh. And it just didn't do anything for me. It was, again, like a big church. It was a production. You know? And the intimacy and the size of these groups, it allows you to get to know people. It allow up to at the participation part of it, and it's amazing how much I've grown since then in in the word and in the studies because of the size of this. I love this. This this format fosters an environment for deeper engagement with the text and with each other and with with me, and I really I really love it. And just get to know each other. Getting to know each other. Yeah. Now I don't want to anything I say about what I love about our format or about tribe, don't hear what I'm not saying. I'm not saying any of these things at the expense of just no. And we still love Ray and Carl. Absolutely. Friends of ours. But this it's it's I guess it's whatever turns your crank. You know? I mean, this turns it for us. This is what we're talking I also I also have a firm personal conviction. I know that you don't disagree, but it's worth saying. I also have a firm conviction a personal conviction that the Lord picks your church. Right? When we moved to when we moved to Tulsa, I mean, you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a church. And, like, the the next church was better than the previous one. And we tried engaging or or, like, getting plugged into one church and we're like, that's not what I had for you. And we ended up at a different church, and it was exactly what the Lord had for us. And I want you wherever the Lord calls you. The Bible says those who are planted in the house of the Lord our God shall flourish. Find your tribe. That's right. And sink roots in there and flourish. Number two. Don't worry. They won't all. I mean, the weather is bad. Where else are you gonna go? No. This is a no. I'm be Just restill her iced tea. We'll make it to point number four. She'll be fine. Number one, a different format for conducting our meetings. This is the new wine that that that the holy spirit is is pouring out for us. Number two, the high priority of cultivating a relationship with the holy spirit. We've talked about this so much in the last four years. The high priority of cultivating a relationship with the person of the holy spirit. And this is a good opportunity for me to check-in with you. I'm not looking for Sunday school answers, but but you tell me what works for you and how would you define cultivating a relationship with the Holy Spirit? What personal practices do you employ to cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit? What do you do? I talk to him all the time. I talk to him all the time. I ask him about the the silliest things. I was moving a 50 pound bag of cubes yesterday and said, Lord, I need your angels to help me because I hurt my back. And he did. I that that did not weigh 50 pounds to me. So talking to him. I talk to him all the time. I mean, he's such a blessing. I just gotta say this the songs you were singing this morning. Uh-huh. When I can't sleep at night, that's what comes to my mind. So Yay. Fills the room. Yeah. And he's built I love that. Make sure. Yes. It does. There's there's a song that people sing at Easter. An old one? It's an old one. Oh, but but there's a but there's a special tag that's not in the official lyrics. It says Let them redeem the No. No. No. But but the little tags, the lady just kind of spontaneously says it. She goes, because I talked with him this morning. A wide range of my petite My predicament. Yes. Yes. I spoke with him this morning. Oh. Oh, I just love that. I just I just love that. What else? So continual conversation. You have to invite him in. Inviting him. Inviting him in. Man, that's so good. I mean, let's be honest. There are plenty of rooms in the house of our heart that we are like, come on in. Come on in. Be the honored guest. Know. Right. Inviting him in. Yeah. Yeah. I find just listening, like, listening to those little inclinations in your daily life that you gosh. That usually we just pass over and don't even think twice about or we say, oh, I'm just thinking that. But actually applying that to the Holy Spirit. And if you're with Jesus, then the Holy Spirit is speaking to you all the time and is actually taking those moments to listen. Listen and they go hand in hand like a left and right foot. Listen and Obey. Obey. So obey. So I don't maybe this is what you're saying. And you can be like, no. That's not what I said. But but listening to those little nudges and small acts of obedience. Yeah. Mhmm. That too. Listening and obeying. I find most people don't even hear to obey. Right. Because we just we brush it off as, oh, no. That's nothing. But looking for those moments of him speaking to you. Oh. Yes. So good. How about telling him good morning? Good morning. First thing Inviting inviting him in conversation. Learning his word. What does his word actually say? Spending time in his word, talking to him in English, using your your prayer language. The bible says that that he who speaks in tongues built himself up. The bible says you pray the perfect prayer. You're praying in unity with God's heart. He says there's an exhortation in the New Testament, like pray all the time. Pray in the spirit on all occasions. That's probably how you've read it in in your bible. And so many people get hung up on like, oh, First of all, you might get hung up on like, is that even for today? It's it's in the bible. Paul says, I would be to God that you would all pray in tongues. But what most people get hung up on is what I would describe as the the corporate or public expression. And whenever there is this would be a public corporate gathering. Whenever there is an expression of of the gift of tongues in a corporate setting, it should always be accompanied with Interpretation. Interpretation that that's in the bible. But additionally, God talks about and encourages us and invites us into the practice of what I would just call a personal or a private prayer language. How do you cultivate a relationship with the holy spirit? You take your intellectual brain and mind and you don't completely divorce yourself from it. That's not what God wants. But you say, hold on. Hold on. Take a back seat for just a second. You sit this one out. When I pray in English, the prayer has to come from my spirit up through my brain and then out my mouth. The bible says that when a person prays in the spirit that they are praying the perfect prayer and only God knows. My brain doesn't understand. It's encrypted information. The enemy doesn't understand. Understand. And it's a way of telling my flesh you're not the boss here. Mhmm. But your spirit man is the boss. And there's so much more to say about that. But we got six I'll make this really quick. Yeah. I I kind of I separate for myself speaking in times from heavenly language. Okay. So when I'm praying in in English, a lot of times I get bored. I don't know what else to to pray. That's the truth. You know? It's like but there I know there's more that needs to be prayed, Then I'll switch and start printing my heavenly language. Sometimes I go for fifteen, twenty minutes. I don't know where the time went. Sure. It just evaporated. Because because you your English vocabulary has, like, run out, but you've got more to say. Yeah. That's when your spirit man says, hey. Go get a Gatorade. Like, catch your breath for a a second. Yeah. And let the let the grown ups talk. Right? The bible says that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. That that we are new creations in Christ automatically. All the redeeming that needs to happen happens at the moment of conversion. Yeah. Alright. One more. I'm like, oh, I don't I don't wanna speak up right now, but I will. So it's almost like an elephant in the room. Right? Like, during COVID, I read for hours, and I was like, oh, I'm in my cozy little space with the holy spirit. Mhmm. And then we started meeting together. I'm like, no. I just wanna watch online. I could drink coffee and be in my jammies, and I'm so comfortable. And the Lord was like, you are to fellowship. And I'm an introvert, and I'm sensitive. So if, you know, somebody ignores me or whatever, then I have to do it then, and I get arrested and all that. However, there's the meetings where, like, for example, we would give a word, and it was like, boom. What? That wouldn't have happened had I not been in the room with this specific group of people at that specific time Yes. Where the Holy Spirit was like, I'm so real. The Greek word is koinonia. Like, just this unique group organic gathering for the holy spirit to to to use a churchy word, manifest himself Mhmm. In through through contributions, questions, anecdotes, connections. And Hebrews ten twenty five says, do not forsake the gathering of the saints. And that's the obedience part too. Yeah. Yeah. Wanna say A different format for conducting our meetings. A high priority of cultivating a relationship with the holy spirit. Number three, celebrating the lord's family traditions. So you might if you're not familiar with tribe, you might have you might not know what that means, but you would understand the term of the Jewish feast. We're not a Jewish church. Our messiah is Jewish. Our roots are are Jewish. God invites his family into traditions. And if you if you want to think of them as a Jewish feast, they're okay. But that's that's fine. The bible says these are my feast. The the lord says, these are my feast. These are my family traditions. And we honor we don't go overboard, but we honor the seven major family traditions of the lord, and it helps us do three things, to remember, to recalibrate, and to rehearse. So as we're coming out of COVID and the lord is releasing new wine, I need you to walk closely with me. Well, how do we walk closely with you? I need you to get in sync with me. How do you get in sync with me? Here's one way. Here's seven ways. Number four. This one is super important. We've been touching on it a lot of different ways. Buying oil for your lamp. We talked a lot about this during and coming out of COVID. Buying oil for your lamp. So many Christians have a really good looking land and completely neglect the fuel source. We just say that's a really great looking lamp. You go through the motions. You do all the right things. You say the right things. But in the stillness in the secret place of your heart, there's none or very little oil. And then in the church world, what people do is when they run out of oil and they have not realized it or they they're just coasting along like, like, I've run out of oil, but, like, I didn't get struck with lightning. Like, I guess everything is okay. I mean, the parable of the 10 virgins, they all, all of their lamps were were not burning at the time that the bridegroom appeared because they had to wake up and they had to trim their wicks. They had to trim they had to light their lamps. Mhmm. But five of them were caught out in the cold because they did not have enough oil for their plant. Then what did they do? They turned to the five y five y's and said what? Can I have some of oil? Can I have some of your oil? And what did the five y's say? Go get your own. Sorry. Out of luck, Chuck. Go get your own. Now is that cool? Is that mean? What about what about love thy neighbor? Oil. Shouldn't you share if you've got extra oil, shouldn't you share with those in need? Oil only comes through intimacy. So you can't share it because you can't cultivate someone else's intimacy with the Lord. You can be dead or oily. Yeah. But do you honor laziness? You know? Yes. Right. Right. Here. I'm doing the whole thing over here. I know. Sorry. You cannot burn your lamp off of somebody else's oil. Now a good parent will raise their child in the way that they should go so that when they're older they'll not depart from it. And so your your goal as a parent is to teach your children how to buy oil. Your goal as a parent is to, like, like, siphon off some of yours for for their land, but but that only goes a little ways. Right? And the things that that when I buy oil, it's for I you can sit under the world's greatest orator of God's word and be oilless, dry as a bone. And that's why you get a critical spirit. That message, I mean, he didn't preach like he did five years ago. Because you're thinking that the worship leader is supposed to supply you with oil. You're thinking that the format or the venue is supposed to supply you with oil. Well, this this I'll just drink the old wine and the old wine. I'm preaching here. The old wine and the old wineskin is is good because there's no oil in your lamp. And I think it's a slippery slope because you can expect that they are supposed to give you oil. Sure. Oh. Like, you you're linked to the like, you you put them on a pedestal because, you know, of their gifting or whatever. And then you're mad when you fall in hard times or whatever. But Or when they turn out to be a real human. Yes. Now let me also say this for pastors. Let me steal, man, a pastor's well meaning part. They love you so much that if they could at all share some of their oil, they would just keep coming back. Like, keep like, please read your bible. If I could, I would read your bible for you. I if I could just come up with a clever sermon series or this amazing object lesson or this video. If I just if I just could, I would. And then mistakenly, they think that they can supply you with oil. And mistakenly, you buy in and say, okay. You supply me with oil. And that equation doesn't zero out. Question. So in the parable of the virgins having when they're like, hey. Go get your own oil. Where do they go to get it? Okay. Let's answer that question and go to a a even harder question, a a truth, a harder answer to wrestle with. K. You can't just go and, like, like Mustard. Mustard. Where did they have to go? Right. Where did they have to go in the parable? Out on the street. Out of they not on the street. Not in Bible. In the parable. Matthew chapter 25, if you need to refresh yourself really quick. Market. To where? Who? Market. The market. Go to the store. Go to the market and get your own. Actual imperial. Now why he could have said he could have said go back to your parents. He could have said anywhere. But he said go to instead of the market, we don't really have markets so much, so we'll just say store. Go to the store. What do you do at stores? To pay them what you buy. Exchange. You buy things. This is what Jesus is talking about. Oil has to be purchased. There must be an exchange. So in as a spiritual analogy then, is the oil distributor Mhmm. God, the father? Like, who? And the oil is always here. Yeah. Who's the market? Yeah. Who is the Okay. Okay. So so the the shopkeeper. So we're talking about literal oil? In the parable. Yes. In the parable of Matthew chapter 25. You gotta go buy oil for yourself. If it was a if it was a matter of literally having oil, churches, like, around the world would be like, ah, look at our oil. You know? So it is it is a metaphor for something spiritual, and we're gonna talk about the substance in just a moment. But but to go on with your line of thought, the shopkeeper, the store owner is the lord. Okay. You can you only can go to him, not your pastor. Right. It it's the lord. Okay. There must be an exchange. You have to buy it. What is the currency of buying oil? Serene, time, intimacy, and obedience. Alright. Let's you're on the right track. Yes. You're on the right track. Let's think now let's jump back to olive oil. Mhmm. How is olive oil produced? Crushing. Crushing and pressing of the olives. The farmer doesn't go up to an olive and be like, could you just dribble a little bit of oil for oh, thank you so much. Pat, pat, pat, the olives and off he goes. The olives have to be harvested, and then they have to be pressed and crushed in order to release the olive oil. So now let's talk about not necessarily what is the oil, but how do we purchase the oil? How does an individual purchase the oil? We've just said we've placed we talked about placing a high priority on buying oil. How is oil for your lamp purchased? Submission. Submission. Sacrifice. Surrender. Dying to yourself. Now let's come back to what Jacob just said. He's bopping along on his day that still small voice of the holy spirit says something, he listens then he has a choice whether to obey or not. Oh, is that me talking? Oh, is that just a random thought that popped into my head? Oh, is that really you holy spirit? That's the crushing right there. Okay. Let's see what happens. And you step out in that small act of obedience. When you surrender, that's the crushing. When you obey, or not the person miraculously jumps up from their mat, keeled or not, that that's not your department. When you submit and step out in obedience, that's what buys the oil. That's the purchase. And it's so basic and it's so profound. And it's so hard. And it's so hard. And it's so easy. Imagine if if buying oil imagine if buying oil like, have you seen, like, these National Geographic videos of of of people trying to make a pilgrimage to Tibet, and they have these, like, these leather, like, like, wooden hand things and, like, the elbow things and this thing. And they they they they make a pilgrimage for thousands of miles to the holy city of Lhasa, and they take one step and they bow down and they prostrate themselves in the direction of the temple. They stand up. They take one step, a journey of thousands of miles to the holy city. And they have to, like, wear all these, like like, reinforced skin of the kids. It just wears out. What if buying oil were like that? All you have to do is all these religious things. That's what man tries to do. We always try to make religion out of it. The smallest act of obedience, Jesus says, you can't even give a cup of cold water in my name without me being like, I see that. Here comes some oil. Oh, in his exchange I mean, he's running a bargain sale right now. Mhmm. Like, every single act of obedience will yield tenfold oil. It's the dirty devil that says, check your pockets. You don't have enough money. Don't even go into the store. That is a life from the enemy. The bible says that we have been given the faith the size of a what? Mustard seeds. If you only have that much, that's enough. Now I said that there were two parts to what you were saying and that there was gonna be even harder part. According to the parable, what happened to the five foolish virgins who went to the store? It was too late. It was late. Was late. The store was closed. I'm telling you right now with all sobriety because I love you, there will come a day where it will be too late to buy oil, and you must burn your lamp with whatever supply you have. That's I can't even imagine what that would look like to play out in reality, but Jesus says it. Number three. No. I'm not scared. Oh, number four. Five. Five. Five. Five. Buying oil for your lamp, how do you how do you buy oil for your lamp? Embracing the pressing and the crushing and dying to yourself. That's what purchases oil. Number five, what is this new wine? This idea and concept of the rapture of the saints at the end of the tribulation. You cannot in scripture, you cannot separate the return of Jesus and the rapture of the saints and the church. And Jesus returns at the end of the tribulation. You if you don't believe me, his words are actually recorded in Matthew chapter 24. He says, and then at the end. So we have been talking a lot about this, and that's as far as I'm gonna go into that because we only have eight more points. But you can go back and one day. Yes. Eight more. You can go back and look. So along with that is anticipating tribulation because if if incorrect teaching would say, don't worry. You'll be poofed out before things get hard. It is literally tribulation and the pressing and the crushing that produces oil. Imagine how disillusioned and disheartened you'd be if like, well, I'm gonna I'm gonna get poofed out of here like, I got just no more on my neck. And then, like, the dark night comes and you run out of oil. So if you have adopted a mindset, and I will say this to be a little bit fair, pre tribulation rapture, mid tribulation rapture, and post tribulation rapture, you can make an argument for all three by looking at the text. But when you consider all of Jesus' words and the whole counsel of scripture, my theological opinion is that you can only rightfully land on a post tribulation rapture. And it is the post tribulation rapture that helps frame our perspective of hardship and difficulty. Because we don't think, oh, it's getting hard. I should get zapped out of here. It gets hard and we think, oh, it's a chance to buy oil. The pressing, the crushing, the persecution, the rejection, the hardship, that's all opportunity to buy oil. It's interesting too when you look at I've been really fascinated lately with American like, Christian theology, like, how America has, like and our ideology as Americans and our comfort society has influenced a lot of Sure. Modern church's theology. And you go to any other country, like, in East Asia, it's like, they know that that is their time to gather what. And they are suffering now. I mean, like, those home churches, like, secret churches, like, it's it's not guaranteed that, like, the person sitting next to you is gonna show up to church next week. Yes. They might be gone. That's it for them. Yes. And they're willing to show up. It's the underground church. It's the persecuted church around the world that is is so oily. They're slipperier than a greased pig and fair weak. Yeah. And knowing that and knowing that Fair knowing that god loves that. And there's so much text in the bible about our suffering and about the righteousness that it brings. Yeah. That yeah. Why would he just Endurance. Out. Endurance. Endurance. He says endurance is what you mean. Mhmm. How about the apostles? The apostles and what they went through. Yeah. Yeah. Only John, the apostle died of old age, we can assume. But after he was attempted poison or boiled, slipperier than a grease pig at Fairweed. Couldn't get it. That's nice. Somebody start cleaning up on that. The the we don't have we don't have time to unpack this, but number six, the Maranatha cry. Number six, the Maranatha cry. It is an Aramaic phrase that means the Lord has come and will come again. I believe that when we have a proper biblical understanding of the return of Jesus, the rapture of the church, it calibrates our heart to to cry out for and eagerly anticipate the return of Jesus so that we would say, Maranatha, the Lord has come and is coming again. And dovetail right in with that beautifully is developing a heart for Israel. Those of you who have been with me on this journey for two decades or more know that I didn't talk about these things even five years ago. But this is just the the chrysalis that that I have emerged from, that that the direction that God is taking our tribe family. I mean, Greene, you we have not new 20 plus unit. I ever preached about Maranatha, the return of Jesus, tribulation, Israel? Never. Not once until just a few years ago. That was number seven. Number eight. Here we are. I thought that'd be number eight. Okay. I got it. This is the lord this is the word that I feel like the lord put on our heart for the year 2024. As we went into January, it's rapidly coming to a con a conclusion. And if we were to look back at all that happened in just this year alone. But he says, look for clarity in complexity. As the world gets exponentially complex, I will be doing and speaking and saying things for those of you who purchased a new wineskin, those of you with eyes to see and ears to hear, things are gonna get so much more simple. I will provide clarity for you in the midst of an ever increasingly complex world and geopolitical landscape. The last thing that that I'll say is I'm closing my bible. We got those eight points. Why do I even need a new wine skin? In the book of Ecclesiastes, it says, for everything there is a season, And you will be left with whatever amount of old wine that you insist on holding on to in your old wineskin and will miss out on the new wine of what the holy spirit is doing here at Trinity and around the world. And I would say to you that you would be swept aside. Jesus says, when I return, it will be like in the days of Noah. He's right there. When people will be eating and drinking, getting married. So I say feeding and breeding. Just like it's always been. There's nothing that new, nothing that different than that. And it says that they were absolutely gobsmacked when that first raindrop hit their forehead, completely unprepared and unaware. And I don't want that for me, for my family, and for our tribe family. The old wine that you have been enjoying, wasn't that delicious? Wasn't it wonderful? Wasn't it great? Didn't it bring joy and peace to our hearts? Didn't it set us free? Didn't it empower us and encourage us? Great. New wine needs a new landscape. And as we go into our ninth rotation around the sun, the question is, will you purchase a new wine skin for the new wine that the Lord is releasing? So Lord speak to us in our hearts with all of these things that we've talked about, Lord. Speak to us. What would you challenge us on? How would you minister to us, holy spirit, this morning? Oh, I just hear the voice of the holy spirit saying, and there's this verse that a bruised reed, he'll not smash it or smoldering wick, he'll not snuff it out. There could be just a tiny smidge of oil left in your lamp. Jesus is not going to say, mm-mm You used to have a lot of oil. You used to burn bright. Now look at you. Pathetic. He doesn't do that. He just says, look. You're here. You wanna buy some? You buy some more wine? The bible says in the book of Song of Songs, with one glance of your eye, you have ravished my heart, my beautiful one, my bride. When we even think about thinking about him, his heart thrills, and he's like, oh, come here. Come here. In in Psalms, it says, my heart has heard you say, come and spend time with me, and my heart replies, Lord, I'm coming. Run to him. Run to him. Run to him. Thank you, Jesus. The shopkeeper will hang a sign. He'll flip it one day. Sorry. Close. We're as close to the end of this service as I am to the door, but I don't want to rob you of one more way of worshiping the Lord. We worship the Lord in a song. We worship the Lord by considering and honoring the word that is discussed. We worship the Lord one more way through our tithes and our offerings. And what an amazing way to to surrender and to purchase oil by, like, dying to yourself. We all have great financial needs. But when we sacrifice, when we offer up a portion of our finances, it is a way of bossing ourself around. And so I'll just pray really quickly over the offering. Lord Jesus, the job that we have, the place that we live, it all is a blessing and comes from you. Thank you, Just as our calendar is getting a little lean, we get a call. Hey. Can you rip out this carpet? Put in this carpet. Oh, hey. Can you one more job. Thank you, Jesus, for one more job. By way of telling you that we love you and we trust you, we surrender a portion of our finances to you because you're so good to us. Thank you, Jesus. Father, I ask that you would receive these tithes and offerings, use them to make your name famous here at tribe, in Jackson Hole, the surrounding region, into the uttermost bounds of the earth.
