How is everybody today? I love it. You ready for some Christmas music? Cathy, do you like Christmas music? You can't really say no. Let me let me open us with a word of prayer, please. Whenever Justin's ready. Whenever Justin's ready. Oh, Lord Jesus, we come before you this morning. We just tell you thank you. We tell you thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And Lord, what a cool time of the year and the calendar that not only just believers rejoice that you came, but in a way, the whole world, even if they aren't recognizing it or realizing it, they're hearing Christmas music, they're singing it. Lord, we pray that this year, there'd be a switch in people's hearts who just hear the words to these Christmas songs that are real, real gospel truth. They would stop for a moment and think about it. What if this God really did send his son and he really did come and he really did live a perfect life and he really did die for me. What would that mean for me? Which is the point that we all came to at one point. And those of us that are call ourselves believers and are surrendered to the Lord. So Lord, we just thank you today. We just we just thank you when we don't know what else to say. We just say thank you. You're worthy. You're so worthy. You are the joy to the world. You're the peace to the world. You're the hope we've been looking for. And we sing it to you today as we lift our voices in worship in Jesus' name. Amen. Let's stand. We got room to move We we wrote this verse for the season that we've been in and digging deep into Jesus coming back and we'll teach it to you. It's real simple. It goes like this. Christian old yep. Throw the words up there for me too. To restore all the earth for eternity you got it let's do it again he'll come he'll come again to Let's sing that again. Joy to the world. Just think about the words to this. I know that it's so familiar to us. But that joy to the world, the lord has come and I would add Maranatha and it's coming again. Lord, we just declare that today. That all our life you've been faithful whether we saw it, knew it, recognized it. There's been a threat of your goodness because you created us and you're a good, good, good father. Lord, just as you have been faithful to us, we long to be faithful to you. Just gaze upon who you are to fix our eyes on you and nothing else. So we answer your call to come, to come to you. We'll just fix our eyes on you today. Lord. Sing this together. Just picture these words singing choirs of angels. Let's just behold him. Let's just sing and press into him today. Name like your name, God. No other name like your name, God. Yes, Lord. Even the saints, the angels, the elders bow before you. We bow before you now. Yes. And all the saints and angels of it all. You And to you are all things. You deserve the glory. What if we really grab to hold it out that from you are all things? I mean, just think about that. For from him everything exists. Every dollar in our wallet, every breath that we breathe, every person that we see, from him are all things. Thinking that we can come like this today and sing freely before you. You are so worthy. You are so worthy. Lord, let our hearts and our worship rise day and night, day and night, not just in a gathering like this which is wonderful, but the moment we wake up, day and night, day and night, let our incense of our praise arise. Let that be the cry of our heart that we would be so close to you that every breath we would breathe would say worthy worthy worthy is the lamb who was slain. Just be still before him this morning for a moment. Maybe he's speaking to your heart, a picture, a word. On Tuesday, we talked about in Corinthians how it talks about when you gather and it starts when you gather. This is the way the Lord may wanna speak. One will have a word or a picture and encouragement and interpretation. So let's just ask him Lord, when we gather today, would you like to speak to us in that unique way? And then I just encourage you if you feel like the Lord is putting something on your heart, just step out in faith and share it. Gretchen has a microphone for our livestream people because they wanna be included in what the Lord is doing in this space too. So putting something on your heart, I just encourage you today to just share, just step out. Well, just be still. Let me give you a tangible, really cool example of why we share words, why we share pictures, and just what it does to edify the body and to glorify the Lord. So Tuesday, we opened up a time like this to share and the Lord moves different every time. So if you're holding on to yesterday's ashes, let him go. He you know, Lord, do that again. Do that again. He's like, oh, I got something new. But on Tuesday, there was a new girl and she stepped out in faith and she said, I I just feel like nobody had shared anything yet. And she said, I just feel like the Lord is speaking to me, for me, that even just because I came here and in this room full of believers that he's gonna heal my heart. And it was really cool because I love that she didn't know that, oh, normally you share a word for someone else. She just like shared a word for what the Lord was doing in her heart. It was so awesome and so precious. And Jacob, who if anybody you guys know Jacob, he is not a, like, fuzzy feelings person, like, oh. He and he shared, which if you know Jacob, like, he saw this, he felt led to share this, which I just think is really cool. He said, you know, right before and he pointed to the girl and said, right before you shared that, I saw a picture, but I wasn't sure what it meant, where Jesus was standing right here on the rug and he was pointing right over there. And he said, I was wondering, Lord, do you have a word for someone? And then Jacob heard, I wanna heal someone's heart. And then she shared that. And just think for that sweet, sweet girl who stepped out in faith and shared that for the first time and then to have that confirmation that the Lord sees her and that he loves her and that she can hear his voice. You know, like, oh, he just we we just take the tiniest step of faith. I just feel like he is just just like a father who, you know, longs to see their child step out and and be who they were made to be. So I just thought I'd share that because it was just I mean, we were all up here just like weeping and everyone was like, heal my heart, Lord. Me too. Point. Point to me. So Lord, we just ask you to come and speak. If you have something to say today, we won't stay in this place long, but Lord, we would be remiss if we didn't make time for you to come and speak to all of us corporately. And if your heart's beating out of your chest, it's probably because you're supposed to share. And I know for me, sometimes I hear the voice of the Lord and what I have a hard time discerning sometimes is, Lord, is that just for me? Is that just for me? And sometimes it is. Sometimes it is. He's just he's like, that's for you. Keep asking him throughout service if he's putting something on your heart. Sometimes when I don't share because I'm not sure, the Lord will give me another opportunity. And I'll be like, okay, Lord. I'm supposed to share that. Jonathan, would you come up? I mean, I don't know. Sometimes people are like, well, I actually speak five different languages, but, yes, Romanians are Classic Germans. Of course, you do. I don't know. Just this worship time was so powerful. And the song that you just end up with, you're worthy of it all. Right? Such a such a powerful statement. And if you're thinking, like, what do you feel like? Everything and all the praise and all the worship. And it's not just us here that we worship God. It's the God and praise. It's everybody. Right? And when he's gonna come back, everybody's gonna bow, right, and worship God. So it's gonna be it says that we're we're currently only 6% of all the population that ever lived on this earth. Right? So 8,000,000,000, multiply that. So it's gonna be a lot of people in a lot of different languages. They're some of them, they're dense. So I'm gonna pray in my language so it's not gonna die. And team, I love the I love the tag on the song that we say, Joy to the World. Yeah. That was really cool. Guys, today is pecky day. For how many of you are brand new to pecky day? Oh alright a decent number of you are new to pecky day. How many of you just love pecky day? Okay. All right. Good answer. Good answer. I'm looking around to make sure all of our long standing tribe fam is into Pekki Day. So if Pekki Day is brand new to you, I'm really excited to share this. If you've been with us on the journey of TRIBE, you've celebrated numerous pecky days with us and you're like, Okay, here we go again. But just go ahead, determine in your heart that pecky day holds a special place in your heart, because pecky day holds a special place in the heart of the hunter family. As we started Tribe, our family had been celebrating pecky day for ten, fifteen year well the kids were really little. 15. And so we just had tribe's sixth birthday. So we've been celebrating. Our family has been celebrating Pekki Day for a long time, and we wanted to fold y'all into something from the a hunter family tradition. So as a tribe family, we celebrate Pekki Day and invite you to make Pekki Day a part of your family's tradition. You celebrate it with your family, and then we celebrate it here corporately together. And who knows, maybe this will catch on and spread like wildfire and grow to like other families. Without further ado, pecky day twenty twenty two. If you have your Bible with you, would you please turn to the book of Habakkuk or depending on the church you went to Habakkuk. Habakkuk. Kathy's like, thank you. Here's the easiest way to find the book of Habakkuk. If you turn to Matthew, we can find the book of Matthew pretty easy, and then you hang a left. Hang a left, and you will so let me go there as well. Yep. Yep. Yep. So here's Matthew, and then you just go left, and you've passed Malachi, Zechariah, Haggai, Zephaniah, then you get to Habakkuk. Okay? And we're gonna look at Habakkuk chapter three. We're gonna read some verses together. This is gonna be our our touchstone verse that our conversation is going to springboard off of today. Habakkuk chapter three. And if you're brand new to tribe or if you haven't been in a while, as I say frequently, I really want this to be less of a monologue and more of a dialogue. I want you to engage with the text and engage with each other and me. Just because I'm sitting up here doesn't mean that I have a monopoly on the conversation. I want this to be a team effort. I want you to consider the text, wrestle with the text, invite the Holy Spirit to illuminate your heart as you read the text, so that they're not just words on a page, or not just filling your head with knowledge, but really, ultimately, what we want is encounter and transformation. That can happen when there is a sage on the stage saying all the things and feeding it to you baby bird style. But in this environment it's way more conducive for us to have a conversation and dialogue about these things. That's my heart's desire because when you interact with the text, you stand a way better chance of not only absorbing it, but also encountering the Holy Spirit in the text. With that in mind, let me give you just a quick preview of where we're going today. Pecky Day is a special day in our family when we set aside time to remember all of the wonderful ways God has provided for us in the past, and to build our faith for how he will provide for us in the future. We're going to see a glimpse of that in this text that we're reading in Habakkuk. So chapter three of Habakkuk. Why don't we read the first two verses, because that's where we're going to focus? Yes, start there. Would somebody read the mic is coming around to you? And the mic is not for amplication in this room. It's for our livestream family. We have people that engage with our Sunday morning service. They live in Cottonwood, Hoback, Pinedale, maybe tuning in from Tulsa this morning, Bondurant, from all over the Metroplex area. We're glad that you're with us. Would you read verses one and two of Habakkuk three? Thank you, Gretchen. One and two. This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk. I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by, and in your anger, remember your mercy. Okay. So it's so good, but we should probably just keep rolling. We're gonna come back and camp out in verse one and two, but verses three through 13, again, are like a mosaic tile that we can drop into this beautiful picture of the return of Jesus. Let's continue to read on through verse 10, and perhaps it will fill in a few brush strokes of the picture that you're painting in your heart for the big picture. I see God moving across the deserts from Edom, the holy one coming from Mount Paran. His brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth is filled with his praise. His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from his hands where his awesome power is hidden. Pestilence marches before him. Plague follows close behind. When he stops, the earth shakes. When he looks, the nations tremble. He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills. He is the eternal one. I see the people of Kushan in distress and the nation of Midian trembling in terror. Yeah. Good. Keep going. Somebody else to verse 13. Good job. Were you angry with the rivers, Lord? Was your wrath against the streams? Did you rage against the sea when you rode your horses and your chariots to victory? You uncovered your bow. You called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers. The mountains saw you and withered. Torrents of water swept by. The deep roared and lift its waves on high. Sun and moon stood still in the heavens, and at the glint of your flying arrows, at the lighting of your flashing spear, in wrath you strode through the earth, and in anger you thrashed the nations. You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness. You stripped him from head to foot. So good. So if you're wondering like, okay, beautiful poetic language, but what did I just read? What what little compartment should I put this in? Put this in the drawer of what it will be like at the return of Jesus in the second advent. When Jesus returns, one of the primary things that he's going to do, he'll march across the land. He'll sweep in across the desert to rescue and ransom Israel, who has yet again gone into what the Bible describes as a time of Jacob's trouble. He'll come back and he will rescue Israel with an outstretched hand and a mighty arm. And what will that look like? Well, that's what the prophet Habakkuk is seeing and describing. So you can meditate on those verses another time. We're going to focus on verse one and two. This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk. I have heard all about you, Lord, and I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time in this time of our deep need, help us again, as you did in years gone by. In your anger, remember your mercy. If you don't hear anything else, you can write down the punchline. Here's the punchline for today's conversation. Remembering yesterday's victories arms us with strength for today's battles. Remembering yesterday's victories arms us with strength for today's battles. The year was 2007 when Lisa and I and our two children put our home for sale in Alpine, we had just finished building a beautiful 3,000 square foot stick frame house on six acres overlooking the Salt River. Our two young kids were like, this is going to be awesome. We designed the stairs and entryway with Selah and her senior year prom in mind to come down the stairs and to have her date waiting there in the lobby and have him be blown away and a little holster right there for my shotgun just to make sure that young man knew how to treat my baby. And we had just gotten done building that home, the Lord said, Hey, it's time for you to go to school. I graduated high school right about at the end of the Civil War. And I had never gone to college, and the Lord said, now it's time for you to go to college. And so we put our home up for sale. We moved all the way down to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I was a freshman at the ripe young age of 35 years old, the old guy on campus. And I was enrolled as a freshman there in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And I was working a couple of different jobs because according to our family mission statement and one of our family core values, we decided that it was most important for Lissa to stay at home with our two young children. That was going to be her full time job, and I was going to be a full time student and work a couple of jobs. And one fall, first months that we were there in Tulsa, we were still paying a mortgage on this house. It was under contract in Alpine, but we were paying the mortgage on it, and we had our little apartment to rent. So anyways, we had a lot of month left over at the end of our paycheck one particular month, and things were tight. Things were so tight. Lisa was having to recycle diapers, and we're scrimping and saving where we could, but we're living according to our core values. One of our core values was family. In that particular instance, we translated that core value to mean that Lissa would stay home with the children, being a full time mom, until our kids went to school full time, and then she could pick up some extra work. This guy was busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. You know that perfect storm of bills and things that are due, and you're like, how are we going to do this? In one month we were about 900 short from making it that particular month. And we're like, how in the world are we going to make it happen in this month? Because we were delinquent? Yeah, it was tight. It was tough. Listen, remember they delivered us a foreclosure notice on our beautiful house in Alpine? And so we were there, and one day we're sitting in a little tiny apartment, our family of four, probably about the size of this room here at the TMC. And we were sitting there and we had, know, kind of like a it was nice. It was clean, not fancy, but it was a nice kind of college area of town in a college apartment. And we heard this big boom outside on our patio deck one day. We're like, What in the world is that? The kids all jumped and they ran over to the sliding glass window. They threw open the sliding glass window. I feel like I'm about to tell a Christmas story. What am I in? Your kerchief. My kerchief. So we threw open the sash, and there was the tallest, most brightest magnificent blue bird I had ever seen in my entire life. Clearly a tropical bird in Tulsa, Oklahoma sitting in our little patio of our second story apartment, just kind of dazed because I think he had flown into the window. We're like, What in the world is that? I opened the door and the bird turned and looked at us and hopped towards us. The kids were struck with awe. The kids' first question were, Mom, Dad, can we? Keep it. Exactly. So I'm like, what is this strange creature? He was so out of place. So I set foot out onto the balcony and I held my finger out like this tentatively and the bird hopped on my finger and then he hopped right up onto my shoulder and I was like yes I'm a bird trainer! A pirate. Either one I was willing to go with and it was pretty amazing. I was like, this bird, he's obviously not wild. Where did he come from? And he hopped right up here on my shoulder. The kids were like, can we keep it? The kids were wanting to pet him. And of course, the next thing that they ask is after they want to keep the bird, the next thing that they want to do is name the bird. And so they're throwing out all these different names and I'm feeling pretty cool with the part. Nothing to make you feel cool like a giant bird sitting on your shoulder. That will make you feel really cool. And so kids are throwing out these different names, and it's a really tall, big bird. And right at that moment, the bird with his giant bead goes crock right on my ear. And they're like, pecky. So the bird is now named pecky. He's apparently going to join our family. Alyssa was dubious about the whole thing, like, uh-uh. Yeah, a cage. And now we're like a family with a bird. The cage would take up a fourth of the room of our living room. And he just sat there calm as can be. We're like, what are we going to do with this bird? And it bedtime by that point and we just turned a milk crate upside down and shoved the bird in there and put a towel over it. I don't know what to do. What are we going to do with this bird? And now it's really a burden in this moment. It's a burden. No pun intended. A bird oh my gosh, I didn't even see it. Alright, you win today. You win today, Leah. You get a bird today. Let's go ahead and bring out everybody's getting a bird. A bird in. Hey. There's my glasses. And so we go to bed that night thinking, what in the this is the last thing that we need. And the next morning, we get up. The kids are looking at it. They're already planning out what the tricks are going to teach it. And Selah's down on all fours trying to teach the bird to say her name. The kids are just so into this. We're like, all right. Load up the kids to take them off to school the next day. Selah was in preschool. Kai was still at home. And the normal way to school, there's a lot of traffic, so I was like, I'll take the back way. And we're driving along, and Selah says, look, look, look, there's Pecky. And I thought the bird has escaped again. What is going on? But there was a yard sign in the corner of a yard that said missing bird reward offered. Call this number. And she's like, it's Pecky. It's Pecky. And I was like, well, there it is. And so I took a picture of the reward sign, dropped Sale off at school, came back, told Lissa. She's like, Oh yes, I will call. Let's reunite this bird with its That day after school, we get the kids like, hey, we found Pecky's home. He had flown like three miles away, and we drove up with a bird in a milk crate with a towel over it. We open the door, here's the milk crate. The lady comes running out and she's like, oh, our pet Diego, Diego. And we're like, Diego. I'm not sure. It's not really his name, but okay. Then she holds out her finger, and the trick that I taught Peggy, he hopped up and hopped up right on her shoulder. And I was like, I mean, I kinda taught him that. She's like, thank you so much for returning our lost bird. Like, oh, he meant so much to her. He's been in our family for like ten years. And the door got left open, and he went on a little adventure. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And it felt great to be able to return the bird back to its rightful owner. She goes in the house. We pile all the kids into the truck. And we're like, well, that was a good deed. The kids were already on to the next thing, whatever that was. And then just before we pulled away, the lady comes running back out and she's like, Oh, I almost forgot. I almost forgot. Thank you so much for turning our bird. Put something in Lissa's hand, runs back inside, we drive off, and then Lissa breaks down in tears. A small detail that we had overlooked in that moment was on that lost bird sign said that there was a reward offered. Lissa opened up her hands, and in her hands some money. Can you guess how much it was? $9. $9,100 bills right there. She's crying. I got some dust in my eyes. And we just began to thank the Lord for his miraculous provision, the creative way in which he provided for our needs. We felt seen by the Lord. We felt heard by him. We felt cared for. We felt humbled. And we felt in awe of his creativity. Who does that? How did he orchestrate all those things? He is. He And so we told our family about the financial dire straits that we were in and then showed the kids God's provision for us. And they were like, Woo hoo, when's dinner? But the moment was not lost on our family. And so as the next year rolled around, we had closed on our Alpine house and literally we went under contract in 'seven, like literally the day of the apex of the market. And we're locked under contract for a really high price for the house. It's since sold a number of times, and I still don't think that the house sold for what we got it under contract for in 'seven. The house finally closed. We were able to buy a house in Tulsa outright with cash from the sale of our Alpine house. It paid for all of our school and everything. So just one year later, we were in such a different financial and life position, but we remembered when God came through for us in such a beautiful way with Peggy. Yes, Lisa? I was just going to add a detail. As we celebrate it every year, I feel like I always ask the Lord to show me something new about that story or just what he did. And and it is a crazy story and how the Lord moved and worked in it. We'll never know. Did the bird just fly and then the Lord used that? Did the Lord send the bird? Who knows? But the Lord worked through it. But there's a whole lot to this story that Brian's not telling that's inconsequential to it. But the bird was such a burden for the twenty four hours we had it. It actually, like, got out from us, but we had already felt like we had, like, it we found it. We need to return this bird, like, and Brian climbed this massive tree. He got the bird. I was like, just let it fly away. I literally said that. Like, just let it go. Easy come easy, you know? And Brian said, you know, he literally said, I feel like this bird hit our deck for a reason. If we lost a pet, we'd want someone to fight to get it back to its. And so I have felt like over the years, the Lord has shown me that, like, not all promises are just handed to you. The story sounds like a bird just hit our window and then $900 was put in our hand. But I do feel like the Lord's like, if you'll partner with me, watch what I'll do. And so a couple steps before that, you know, we had some options. Yeah. It sounds crazy that someone knocked on our door with foreclosure, but, I mean, I could have called my parents. I went to pick up the phone and just asked to borrow some money for that month, and the Holy Spirit said, do not, do not, do not let me move and work in this situation. And so there was a lot of things that led up to that that required obedience. I feel like on our part, like, to stick to what we knew the Lord had called us to, and I'm not patting ourselves. I'm just saying, like, it got so bad because the the obvious things to do, the Lord was just like, not not this time. Maybe there'll be another time I'll free you to do that, but not this time. And I felt like the Lord really wanted to I mean, here we are fifteen years later still talking about it. So I feel like he just wanted to wow us in that moment for things that he would trust us and need to trust us with later. Have you ever read an Old Testament story and thought, man, that is so cool what you did for them back then. Why don't you move like that today, or in our day, or in my life? And as I think back on that pecky board straight, it feels like an Old Testament story. Like, what? It's just so fantastic. It's hard to believe. Yeah. I think that's a great point. It does feel like an Old Testament story. It's so profound. I can't help but compare to that story. And I've been frustrated for my whole life because my dad's got so many stories like this too where the Holy Spirit just does something crazy or mentors are like, oh yeah, I got a check-in the mail down to the cent of what I needed for rent. And I'm just like, man, maybe I'm just blind and I'm not seeing it. Why I feel like these things don't happen to me. And I want them to. And so guess I'm just curious to hear your thoughts about that. So good. Jealousy. Oh, jealous. Oh, that's really good. Okay. So let's talk about the difference between jealousy and envy. Right? And I might mess it I might mess it up, but hopefully you'll pick up what I'm putting down. Envy, you're torn up inside. It kind of ends in resentfulness. Jealousy ends in a longing and egress desire for you to experience the same thing. Looks like that didn't help you at all. Well, I am the first one. Well, it shifted. And I am the second one. I want it to happen. Yeah. So here's what we did. So the next year rolls around and and in our family one of my favorite things to do is I love to I love to look back and I love to look forward looking back helps me to look forward. And if you ever want to start a conversation with old PB and get him rolling, you could talk about skiing, climbing or the future. I just love talking about the future and like one of my favorite questions is like, hey, where do you think we'll be this time next year? That's why we celebrate tribe's birthday. That's why we celebrate Pekki Day because I just love thinking about like, what's around the corner? It's part of what drove me on every day in Mongolia. I feel like I could see five days in the future because it was so flat. But like each mile was new and each day was new, a part of the country that I had never seen before. And I was like, I'm so tired. I was so exhausted. But I was like, well, I haven't seen what's down the road to the east today. Let's go check it out. And so when we were a year past our picky adventure. We looked back and saw how the Lord provided for us and the next year we say, You know what we should do? We should take one day every year and remember all that God has done for us and how he's come through for us in the past big ways and little ways and then we'll project that onto the future of the year that's ahead of us, so that it will help us to maybe even see things that he's done for us in this past year that will help us as we move forward into the year ahead. And we're like, well, what can we do? How can we how can we remember it? So we don't just sit around the table and sing pecky day songs because we don't have any pecky day songs. Okay, yet. But what we decided to do was to create a pecky board. And so if you've been to our house in Rafter Jay, it was it was in our bedroom and you probably had no reason to go back to our bedroom so you wouldn't have seen it. But we're we're redesigning our picky board so it'll go in a prominent place in our our our new house down the South End Of Jackson. And so whenever you come over, you'll you'll be able to to see it. But we decided to create a place in our home, giving it a place of preeminence and and prominence as a designated space where anytime something significant happens in our family, a way that God comes through, whether it's big or small, would be like, Oh man, that was so good. We should put it on our pecky board so that we can remember when God came through. We have a bright blue bird on there. We have an unusually bent tent pole to remind us of our time in Mongolia where the winds would blow and blow and blow, but it didn't blow our little tent away. Even though the sun beat down and the rains were driving and the mosquitoes were bad, like God just took care of us in that little orange tent, and so we have that. We have different pictures. There are refund checks that have come through. A lot happened to be in the form of finances because that's just how like, I don't know, maybe I'm different than you guys, but like we feel like we always need like God's miraculous provision in our finances and that's an area where he's always inviting us to trust him is with our finances. So we have a pecky board at home. When we started, when we bought the TMC, I mean just buying the TMC is miraculous enough, it was in the middle of COVID and the Lord's like, hey, I want you to buy property and we're like, that's crazy, and what are we gonna do with it? And here we are two and a half, three years later, still meeting here, having wonderful things. So we started a pecky board. Let me grab it, and I'll set it right here so you can see just a few of the memories. And if you're not on the picky board, just calm down. It's not all about you. Like, don't get all, like, don't get hurt. So we have some thank you cards. We have some weddings. We have pictures of the TMC when we brought when we bought that. This is a a postcard of some of our ministry partners, full time missionaries that we support that are over in the 10:40 window, some baptisms that we've celebrated, a lot of weddings. You can't really see it on the livestream or here at the TMC unless your eyes are really good, but this is when we first got the keys for the TMC after we closed on the unit and we had just gotten done with one of our outreaches that we do in the summer with our tribe kickball team. So we came from kickball over here to the TMC, and we sat on the floors where there was no furniture, and we had some painters tape where we had envisioned setting some furniture out. This is a picture of where we first met at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church and various events. This is a receipt that Lower Valley Energy gave to us two Christmases ago. It God put it on our heart to do some benevolence back into the community. And we said, hey, is there anybody we called Lower Valley and said, hey, is there anybody that is under disconnect notice that in the month of December they'll have their power disconnected because they're delinquent on bills? They said, actually, we got a lot of people that are in that situation and they say, you like you can give like this amount. And I said, well, how many people and what would it take to wipe out everybody's outstanding debt in Bill. And so our tribe family was so generous. They gave over this is a receipt for over $19,000 Somebody at our tribe fam here at the TMC just said, I was one of those recipients. And that was before you were even coming to home. Oh my goodness. Let's just let that moment sink in, y'all. Remembering yesterday's victories arms us with strength for today's battles. Three quick things about the power of remembering. These are worth writing down because it will help you to remember. Look at verse two. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. How can we say help us again if we don't have the first time logged away in our memory books? How can we say, Help us again, like you've done in the past? I don't know about you, but my memory is as leaky as a sieve. My wires come loose all the time, and I constantly forget all kinds of things. We'll hold that comment for later. But when we are diligent to remember and to remind ourselves, that's what gives us the authority and some weight behind Habakkuk's words when he says, Help us again. In fact, that's the title of this morning's conversation. If you're taking notes, at the top of your notes, you can write this morning's title, pecky day 2022, help us again. Okay. I can reiterate it. Or here comes the mic. Leah, that was your pecky. Like, wanna see the Lord move in certain ways, then you just said that. And I'm like, it might not be a bird, but it might be a random donation that somebody was, you know, like I'm just saying this so that we don't overlook how the Lord chooses to move. Like like, he's like, Leah, I do see you. Like, the fact that you just said that I was a recipient, he's like, that's a that's a little blue bird for you. You had just two minutes earlier resounded what Jay said. Like, I wanna see those things. Yeah. But that's why it's so important to remember because we forget, oh, yeah, Lord, you came through for me. It might not have been as crazy as a bird, but, you know, he maybe brought us a bird so we do pecky days so we always remember to give because he knew someone else would have needs. Anyway, I just felt like I needed to say that, that that is the Lord moving on your behalf. The power of remembering. Three things. Three things about the power of remembering. Number one: When we remember, it gets our minds off the problem. So easy to meditate on the lack, the deficit, the defeat, But when we remember how he's come through for us in the past, and we meditate and we remember like an animal. I can't remember what family of animals it's called, but animals that chew the cud. So they eat something, it goes down into their stomach, and then later they're like, I'm gonna chew on that again, bring it back up. Ruminators, and they chew on it and chew on it and chew on it. Like, I haven't seen that. I feel like I haven't seen that animal like like elk. You know, they're like laying down and wait do elk do that guys? Yeah. They're just sitting there, but they haven't fed on anything. Well they're bringing it back up, meditating on it, chewing on it. When it's really hard to hold two disconnected thoughts in our brain at the same time, we either meditate on the problem, or we use our chooser, we boss ourselves around, and we remember what God has done in the past. I'm gonna remember. I'm gonna remember. I'm gonna remember. You did this for Abraham. You did this for Isaac. You did this for Joseph. You did this for Moses. You did this for Joshua. You did this for Daniel. You did this for the disciples. You did this in the book of Acts. You did this in my family. You did this in the hunter's family. You've done this at tribe. I'm going remember, remember. It gets our mind off the problem, number one. Number two, it gets our hearts focused on him. You can't think about how God has come through in the past without connecting the dots of the giver, the provider of that provision? And has anybody ever not gotten a return on the investment of their time by meditating on the Lord. That was pointless. Ain't nobody ever said that in all of history. It gets our mind off the problem. It gets our hearts focused on him. Thoughts, questions about these first two? Thoughts, questions, first two. Here's the last one. It builds our faith that he will move again. That is Habakkuk three. This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk. I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again, as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember mercy. So I'm trying to tie it all in with the the summarization of this whole thing. But one so I've heard this story for many years. Cry every time because god is so good. But it it what I noticed this time around was that if it wasn't for Selah, a preschooler, seeing that sign, you wouldn't have that story. Nope. I ain't driving right past it. And, you know, it brings me back to all the scriptures that talk about, you know, Jesus says, whatever you do for one of the least of these, do not let anyone look down on you while you are young to set an example for believers in speech and life and love and purity. There are likely people in our midst that whose pictures aren't on the pecky board or who don't get in the videos or get a word during church service and tell themselves, you know what? That's probably just for me. I'm not gonna say it. Where I mean, in that moment, you are becoming one of the least of these, and you're letting that impede the work that God has for this church. Because every single person in here has a gift to share with other people as we gather to no idea if you just say whatever was on your heart or in your head, how that's going to impact somebody else. That's great. Had you not been obedient with the electricity thing, it wouldn't have provided for you. It's just like these little simple acts of obedience that can have a gigantic impact on other people. So I just wanna encourage you guys, like, share. Mhmm. Even if you think if it's just for you because literally, that's what I was thinking. Like, there's somebody in this room who is thinking that's gotta be just a word for me. And then Lissa said it, and I was like, yes, dude. That's exactly what the Holy Spirit was saying to me. Wow. So there's somebody who had something to share in this room and that opportunity passed by, and I that terrible that's a terrible feeling. So I just wanted to encourage you guys. Yeah. Especially if you're young. You guys have a lot to share with us to teach us some amazing things. We're gonna invite some of our Speaking of which. Uh-huh. Our little our young world changers in. And would you set this you can give it to Renee over there. Y'all come in and like seated it over here, here and there. Y'all squeeze in as we tie a bow on our conversation that we're having. So something pretty amazing about remembering, and I wanna I wanna invite each of you to to whatever it takes. I remember Chris Bates when he first moved to the valley and he first heard the pecky day message. He was he was homeless living in this, like, big giant suburban, which was about more square footage than maybe some of you are living in your apartment today. But he started a little picky board, like, on his visor. And so and so whatever it takes to to help you remember. And when we when we reflect on what he has done in the past and his goodness, it it arms us with strength for today's battles. And part of what the like, I wanna be able to see it. I don't doubt that, a, he doesn't wanna do that for me, but maybe he's been doing it and I just haven't seen it. That's a beautiful honest confession. Sometimes, like, when I'm doing carpentry and and let's say I'm working outside and I'm and I'm, like, you know, screwing on siding and I've you know I've got you know just enough screws to work and I'm doing my thing and I drop a screw in the grass. I'm like where is that screw? Just for me personally sometimes I'll put another screw on the grass right there. It helps to calibrate my eyes to know what I'm looking for. I don't know if that actually helps but it feels like it helps me like, oh, that's what this a screw in the grass looks like. And then I look around like, oh, there's the screw. Does anybody else ever do that? You do? Used to when I was these guys' age, I would lose a ball or something. And so I'd take another ball and kinda throw it in the same direction and and if it didn't land within like four feet of the other item. I learned that a long time ago, I asked do that. Anybody else do that? Matt basically just said he did the same thing. Who? Yes. Matt has done the same thing. Yes. Yes. And so, like, throwing that ball out in the grass, dropping a screw in same area, is it similar effect to a pegboard. And so looking back, thinking forward, we have here with us Carla and tribe, her tribe kids, her little world changers, members of her tribe kids team. And as we look back today, we want to take a little bit of time and recognize and honor Joy and Isaac and what they have contributed to Tribe Kids and then also spend a little bit of time looking forward to what is in store for the Abad family next at Tribe here. And so I have a little stool here for you, Joy. So why don't you come on up, sit close, bring as many tissues as you think you need. And so joy so this is this is the the the close of this chapter of pouring into our next generation of world changers. But it's not the end, but it's been a pretty fantastic beginning for you and Isaac's putting your shoulder into the heavy load of ministry here at Tribe. And I'm really, really excited about to to borrow a business leadership phrase to see what next seat on the bus the Lord has for you and Isaac. But in this particular moment, we just want to recognize and honor all that you have you both of you have done and and given to tribe. And so why don't we do this? Let's take just a moment and let's pray for Joy and Isaac and the Abad family. Why don't I pray? And then, Carlo, did you have one or two students that we're gonna pray to? Okay. Two of them. Okay. So I'll pray and then I'll I'll invite those students that you have selected to come up. Okay? And and those students can have the mic. So, Lord Jesus, we thank you so very much for the Abad family. They exemplify they exemplify so many verses in scripture about pouring their lives out like a drink offering. And how your word says in the book of Proverbs, Proverbs, those who refresh others, will they themselves be refreshed? And I just hear your word resounding so clearly, well done, good and faithful servant. And then parentheses, the with this assignment. So before we even start thinking or talking about next things next, let's take a moment and just seal in joy and in Isaac's heart All that they have done for tribe for these last godly six years. Wrap all of the memories, little silk cloth. Holy Spirit tie a little ribbon around it so that she and all of her girls and Isaac can put that on a shelf to room to as a reminder of all your goodness during these years. I wanna invite, those students that you have selected, Carla, to come up and they'll just say a little prayer. We'll make sure that that mic is unmuted. Yep. It is. Okay. So hold that to the bottom of your chin, and then you just pray for miss Joy. I pray for miss Joy that she'll have a great time up here and that we will remember what she's taught us past years. Good. That's really good. Dear Lord, thank you for miss Joy. Thank you for all that she's done for Tribe Kids, and please help her continue just being a blessing to all those around her. And, again, please help us remember all of the amazing things that she's taught us over the years. That's good. That's really good. Thank you, Chris. What the Abbads have done is really, you know, the difference between spending. She has not spent time with your students because when you spend something, you don't ever get it back. She has invested invested in your students and in you as volunteers that have had the honor of serving with her. And so, Lord Jesus, we expect and put a very polite and humble demand on the investment that Joy has made into our students. We expect a return. Times that she has sacrificed time with her family, we ask for and expect in a really polite humble way, a return on that investment that you would bless her family. We command a blessing over her marriage with Isaac, over her family, with her girls. And Lord, we pray that as she has invested in others, students, that right now, you are preparing other young men, young women that would invest into each of her girls' lives and leave an indelible mark on their lives in the same way that Joy has left an indelible mark on the lives of the students that she's poured her life out for. Give her a great wonderful restful sabbatical. Patch up any leaks in the boat that may have sprung as she's done her faithful job on the rough seas of ministry. Fill her with vision to set her to set a course for the next adventure that you have for them here at Tribe. We pray these things in Jesus name, the strong son of God. And everybody said, amen. Amen. What do you have here? And then we have one other thing for you. Yeah. Joy, we just wanted to say thank you. I don't know if the livestream can see it or not. I'll hold it up. Maybe Phoebe can help. So you cry behind this. Yeah. Joy will say, we'll say Phoebe. Clean yourself up. On this, yeah, pecky day, all the tribe kids just wanted to point to ways that they've been reminded of how the Lord has provided for them through you. So this is your own tribe kids pecky board, and we love you. And we have a a card for you. Is that where is that thing? Downstairs. Oh, yeah. And there's a card for you down the stairs. So let's stand to our feet. Let's honor and praise the Lord for how great joy in the Abad family has been. We love you. We honor you. And we cannot wait for the next seat on the bus that Tribe has for you. And so thank you, Joy. Yep. Can't wait to see your family here in church just being a family. Yeah. I'm going to dismiss the students. Y'all have a few more things to do downstairs. And if you start with a pecky visor that you need to fold down, whatever whatever you gotta do. Okay? Jay, do you feel like this is your first pecky day, you've heard a lot about it, you happen to miss like last year's pecky day message. So all year long he's like, what's this pecky day? When are we gonna do peck Do you feel like some dots were connected for you? Was this helpful to you? Yeah. Feel like it was helpful. I think pecky being the name of your bird was great piece of context because because all year I had been like going over to Carla and Justin's and looking at their pecky board and they're like, yeah, like you'll yeah, you'll understand when you go to pecky day. And I'm just kind of like looking at it and I'm like, okay, like that looks like the Lord's faithfulness. Like, am I missing something? And so understanding this, the name of your bird definitely connected those dots. You don't have to call yours a picky bird. But you should. And Leah's like, why is there a bird on picky day? All This morning. This morning. January? Yeah. Okay. I'm ready to talk because I just I just stopped crying. So, yeah, I just felt the Lord kind of point out to two different passages this morning talking about remembering and remembering the good things that the Lord has done. This is the very beginning of Joshua and, yeah, when the nation of Israel had finished passing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, Joshua, take 12 men from the people from each tribe of man and command them saying, take 12 stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan from the very place where the priest's feet stood firmly and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight. That this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, what do those stones mean to you? Then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones may, shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever. I yeah. Years ago, my my oldest brother just kind of he bought me a journal and said, like, this journal can be like an old testament altar for you. So, like, write down the things that you're going through and the ways that you see this the ways that you see the Lord or you don't see the Lord in certain situations so that you can look back and remember. I mean, that that passage is taking place, like, in the midst of a very difficult season for the Israelites. Like, they've come out of slavery. They've been in the wilderness for forty years just wandering, and this new generation is passing over the Jordan River into this land that the Lord has promised them. But, like, they're remembering that that goodness of the Lord, but they're also stepping into years of, like, battle and conquering and, like, it wasn't easy. So, yeah, that just kind of stood out to me. It's kind of what what you're saying. It's about the role of the pecky board of, like, seeing what the Lord has done in the past and looking towards the future. And then also just at the end of the the passage you shared from back at 17 through 19, yeah, I just sense that this is like this is kind of where a lot of people are feeling. This this is a season I can identify with and yeah. Kind of like Jay and Leah were were mentioning. The the passage says, though the fig tree shall not blossom nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food. The flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls. Like, sometimes we feel that. We feel like, where is the Lord? Where like, I don't feel like somebody just handed me $900. I feel like I have this bird this burden. You know, I feel like I'm not gonna be able to keep my lights on or, you know, like, yeah, just you you don't see you don't see where the Lord is in the situation. The the next verse is, yet I will rejoice in the Lord. I will take joy in the God of my vation. God, the Lord is my strength. He makes my feet like the deers. He makes me tread on my high places. Yeah. Just know that, like, there is hope and there is that attitude of rejoicing even when we don't see how exactly the Lord is gonna work, provides that opportunity for him to come through for us and just kind of shake us out of that that attitude of not seeing, you know, what's really going on underneath. And, yeah, just I think what struck me was even even as we're celebrating pecky day and looking back at the Lord's goodness, we yeah. It it doesn't mean that there's not gonna be times in the future that we, you know, come up against these things and bump up against walls where we're like, I have no idea where the Lord is. It's really easy to lose sight. Right. So, yeah, it's why why it's so important to remember. That's why it's so important to remember. Bill Johnson once said, sometimes it takes the Lord a long time to act suddenly. Yes. And just to piggyback what you were saying, just something that was swirling through this whole beauty of pecky day and remembering God and remembering how he does move and and thinking about, well, gosh, in those places where it's like, where are you Abba? You know, this is a dry wilderness place. Where are you Abba? The scripture that was coming to mind is out of Isaiah 49. And I wish I had the whole just like this electronic thing here. But but again, Isaiah, it's a really difficult time for Israel. And they're questioning, you know, like, God, I mean, we're your covenant people, but where are you right now? And just these verses that comes, and this is through the prophet Isaiah expressing Yahweh's heart. And he says, can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you. Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hand. Your walls are continually before me. So, it's just beautiful that just as we're encouraged not to forget God. We can know he's not a liar. He never forgets us as his covenant children, as his covenant people. So, remembers us. He remembers us. We are constantly before him, inscribed. He knows who we are. Not that the Lord needs a a memory helper device, a mnemonic device. Right. But in a way, God has his own pecky board. Right. And it's our names on the palm of his hands. How how many times do you see your own hands every single day? He has our name, our situation, our needs, our longing, our brokenness, our gap between our current circumstances and what the best that he has for us. It's on the forefront of his mind. He's remembering us. Yeah. He's inviting us to remember him. Yeah. Last thing that we're gonna do before we transition to our next and last form of worship is, as you hear, we talk about all the time, what's that Monday morning practical application? Well, today we want to if you haven't started a pecky board, we want to set you up for success and we're going to provide you today with the basic ingredients to start your own PECI board. Okay? And so would you just scoot that up here to me? So there are there are two options for your family. We're gonna we're gonna send you with one of these little pegboards that that you can start put in front of your family. This one or this one depending on your home decor. But there are some little but there are some little clips here and and if you have this and you're like, well, I ain't got nothing. Now, great. Tabula rasa, blank slate. Put it there and then start looking. Have an expectation of how is God gonna come through for me so that I can remember this. And this is completely subjective to you if you're single or to you as a a family. Like, what do you want to put on here? You don't need to be like like, let's not get all legalistic and I don't know how you know people can get weird really fast. You just get weird with your own pecky board. Whatever you want to put on there or not put on there. Okay? But but the purpose is to remind you of what he's done in the past. When we remember what he's done in the past for it, it arms us with strength for today's battles that we face. Okay? With that in mind, a great way to practice the principles of pecky day, which are all throughout scripture. Right? Like, one of the things that Justin just read is we can we can practice honoring the Lord with a portion of our finances. Maybe today you have a financial need that's in front of you. I mean, come on. A, it's Jackson, and b, we're heading into the holidays. We all got financial needs. Right? But one of the things that you can do is as you tithe, as you give to your local church, whether it's your tribe or wherever you're visiting from. As you tithe, you're saying, Lord, I'm making a deposit today expecting a return tomorrow, a return on my financial investment here at Tribe and in my own personal finance. If God can make a bright blue tropical bird fly into our patio window that resulted in in meeting our financial needs perfectly, what can he do in in your family? The Bible says that he owns the cattle on a thousand hills. The Bible says that the things that we cherish so valuably in in precious metals of gold, don't think that's a pavement. It's like sidewalk in heaven. The New Testament, he says that he promises to supply all of our needs according to his riches and glory. He says, look at the flowers of the field. How beautiful the flowers are. Look at the birds of the air, how I clothe them. They're just birds. Sorry birds. How much more will I take care of you? And when we surrender a portion of our finances to him, he's saying, you've given me something that I can work with. Lord, I know how you've come through for me in the past. And as I give today, I know that it's a it's an investment into how you're gonna take care of our financial needs or whatever those needs are in the future. You know that there's a couple of ways to give at Tribe either through the the there's a black box on the outside of the building that is secure. You can drop a check or cash there. You can give through the website. If you go to the homepage on the upper right hand corner, there's a button that says give and you can give that way whether you're giving here at the TMC, like you live here in Jackson or you're part of our tribe family that watches the livestream all the way over in Worland, call not Worland, Colorado. Every week we provide an opportunity for us to add to our pecky board by giving you a portion of our finances. By way of telling you that we love you, that we trust you, we surrender a portion of our finances. And even in the midst of this prayer, I'm I'm reminded of the time, our very first Christmas Eve service when we wanted to do a big outreach event and we were gonna rent the Snow King Ballroom, but we didn't have the the finances to do it. And there was a family that was like, hey, we got some money squirreled away for for a bigger thing, but we feel like the Lord is calling us to to to cash this in, to be able to afford the ballroom, to pay for the ballroom. And they had family members that were in out of that were in from out of town visiting that Christmas. They came to the Christmas Eve service, and one of them ended up giving their heart to the Lord that time. And so, like like, I mean, how can you put a price tag on that? And so just building this collective memory of your goodness is so good. So we take a portion of our finances and give to you. We give back to you Lord. God, I ask that you would receive these finances. You would use them to make your name famous here at Tribe, in Jackson Hole, the surrounding region, and even to the uttermost bounds of the earth. We pray these things in Jesus' name. Amen. Okay. How about just one now? No. Christmas Eve service on the town square, 06:30PM, just like we did last year. It's a great time to to get out and invite coworkers and friends like, hey, join us for Christmas Eve service. It's outside on the town square, so you know that PB can't go too long because his toes get cold. And so so it's a great time to invite people. Also, we will have invites coming up soon, so we'd be able to put those in the lockers of coworkers or hand them out to people at the grocery store. And what we say is not do you have a place to go for Christmas Eve service? We always ask, hey, where are you going for Christmas Eve service? And they go, I I I don't know yet. You can wear appropriate Christmas attire, bring a present that 's anywhere from like 15 to $30 range. Lord Jesus, thank you so much for taking great, great, great care of us creatively. I wanna pray for our tribe fam as perhaps this year, they're starting their pecky board journey of remembering your goodness. God, I ask. I love what Leah and and Jay said today. God, I ask that you would open the eyes of our heart to see you working in small and in big ways. Even right now, God, I ask for an impartation of remembering. Well, remember this, remember this, and what about this? Well, I thought it was circumstantial. I I I thought, I mean, I kind of thought maybe it was you, but just remember, bring to their remembrance God. So that they can go, holy cow. You were taking care of me all along in these ways. I praise you. I laud and magnify your name, king of the universe. God, I command a blessing over each and every member of our pecky day family here.
