She feels like the Lord was speaking to her about worship today, and I always love and trust anything Lee and Colleen hear from the Lord. So it's a blessing. So let's have ears to hear what the Lord would say about worship and to us today. Just flip that. That's great. Yep. So having an hour and a half to arrive here on And it is an awesome prayer time that we have together. And as we were headed out, first thing in the morning, brought to a new wine and new wineskin. And he wants to ask you, are you willing to be as David David was as a king dancing in the streets to him? Or will you be like his wife, Michael, who was looking out the way We receive that word. We long to be people that are running hard after your heart. Yes, sir. Come speak to us. Thank you that your word says and promises that if we draw close to you, that you will draw close to us. That means any need in this place today can be met by Jesus. The presence of his his Holy Spirit. Any need that you have, it doesn't mean that the circumstance is gonna work itself out in that moment. But the peace that comes from the Holy Spirit, the joy that comes to rest in him is here today because his spirit is here. Wherever two or more are gathered, he's there in the midst and he's living inside us. If we've given our life to him, laid our life down, and surrendered it to the work of the cross today. So, Lord, come and speak from within and speak from outside. We give you permission, Lord, to work on us today. Spirit, come. Come on. Lift your voice and sing now. Let's fill this room. Let's fill this bar. Holy Spirit, gonna because when you speak and when you move, when you do what only you can do, it changes us, changes what we see and what we seek. When you come into the room, when you do what only you can do, it changes us. Changes what we see and what we see. Oh, It does. It changes everything. But I just said that. I just heard, well, at least it should. Right? I mean, we can deny him coming and changing us. It's like just because he comes doesn't mean we're necessarily changed because we have to give him permission. It should. When he comes and when he speaks, it should change us. And it will change us if we allow him to. Because when you speak, when you move, when you do what only you can do, it changes us, changes what we see, and what we see. When you go into the room, when you do what only you can do, it changes us. Changes what we see and what we see. Yeah. It changes everything. Spirit of the living God, Spirit of the living God, we only wanna hear your voice hanging on every word. Spirit of the living God, spirit of the living God, we want to know you more and more, hanging on every word. Because when you speak, when you move, when you do what only you can do, it changes us, changes what we see and what we see when you come into the room. When you do what only you can do, it changes us, changes what we see, and what we see. Changes everything, But we just surrender to you this morning. Let these not just be words to songs, but our true hearts cry. Let us honor these words. Let us become more aware of your presence. Lord, we have to spend time with you. We have to ask you. We have to be intimate with you to be aware. Our eyes need to be fixed, fixed on you. So fix our eyes on you, God. Let us be a people who don't walk by sight, but walk by faith. That we look different from the world because we listen to one voice and one voice only, and that's of our heavenly father, the holy spirit. So come speak to us. Continue to speak to us. Change us today. We've lifted up worship in song to you. Ask that you would open our hearts to your word that's gonna be preached today and that we would honor the word by listening, allowing you to speak, then obey. That's what it means to honor the word that's preached. You come, Holy Spirit. Speak to us through your word and prick our hearts. Convict us. Reveal new things to us today. We always say thank you, Lord, that there is no dry well with you. The depth of your riches are overwhelming. So we come with open hands and an open heart today to receive from your word and the word that's preached today. We worship you in it. Tell you we love you, Jesus. I thank you for every heart in this room, every worshiper right now that is taking a step in faith to cry out to you. Need us, God. You know every single one of our needs this morning. You love us right where we are, but you don't long up for us to stay there. You're always calling us closer. Thank you for your presence in this place. In Jesus' name, everybody said, amen. Greetings and salutations, earthlings. Trinity lasted. That was for Trinity. We're gonna take a couple of weeks to talk about an important topic and where this is coming from is my desire to help equip you with skills and tools to be able to carry out what we feel like the lord put on our heart as a word for 2024 this upcoming year. Does anybody remember what we feel like the lord put on our heart as a tribe fam and really for anybody with ears to hear about. What do we wanna be thinking about in 2024? Clarity in complexity that the lord whispered to our heart, hey, as we step into 2024, that that the lord knows and you don't really have to be like a prophet or like be able to like read the tea leaves to know like this world is growing in complexity and in the and as things continue to get more complex, there is a release of clarity for anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear. Jesus uses that phrase a lot. Meaning, it's like radio waves that go out, like like, right now, there are there are radio waves passing, like, through your body and through this room all over. You can't hear them because you don't have the right equipment to tune in and hear it. But if you had the right equipment, you can do the dial. I don't even think radios have dials anymore. Checking with Christian, our technical expert. Some do. Some some radios still have dials. Thank you for that clarification. And then you can then you can hear the the broadcast. Right? Are you following me? In a similar way, god is saying to those with ears to hear and eyes to see that 2024, we can expect a next level of complexity in our lives and the events around us but right within that and this is one of the beautiful things about the lord is he'll never ever, ever, ever, ever allow anything to come into this world or come into your life without attaching something with the fragrance of heaven all over it. His promise, his provision, a way out, a way not just to like barely make it through but a way to thrive and in a similar way, as we can anticipate complexity in the year ahead, we also need to be looking for and and be ready for and maintain vigilance for the clarity. And so what this series of conversation is going to do is to help us continue to develop our clarity muscle. Does that make sense? Yes. Okay. As we get into the the title of the series and the title of our conversation this week, I think it'll be even more clear. So you can write this at the top of your notes. For the next couple of weeks, we're going to be talking about walking in the spirit and that's probably a phrase that you ain't never heard outside of the four walls of a church. And I just have a quick a quick pause. Is there music playing somewhere? I'm a write your name down. Laura's on it. Thank you. Thank you. So, we're gonna be having a series of conversations about walking in the spirit and for some of you, that phrase may be very familiar terminology, phrase that you've heard before in the church background that that you've come from, that maybe like, oh yeah, walking in the spirit. Like, yes, got it. For some of you and I would suggest perhaps for many of you that called tribe home, this phrase, you might have heard of it before but you might not have a lot of familiarity with it And if you have some familiarity with it, you just kind of know the expression. But what does it really mean? So this is where we're gonna be going in a series of conversations, and, yes, that's a keyword. If you're brand new to Tribe, I really do want this to be a conversation. We're already in a different environment here meeting as a church in a bar. So, let's go ahead and like keep the keep us on our toes, switch it up even more by inviting you to participate in what we're talking about today. So, how do you get to participate with questions, comments, and connections. So, if there's something that's like burning on your heart that you feel like is important to our conversation today, all you have to do is raise your hand. We have a mic in the room that will run around to you. Colleen has it, and you'll be able to ask your question, share your comment, share your connection, and we all get to grow. And it's a way for you to stay better engaged with what we're going through instead of you just listening to my mouth hole flap its gums for the next twenty minutes. Why was there a sudden whispering over here? Oh, not about just the twenty minutes. Alright. Walking in the spirit. The title of today's conversation is the master, the manager, and the mover. And we're going to be answering primarily one question today. What does that even mean to walk in the spirit? What does it mean to walk in the spirit? We're going to use two passages. One, a little bit lengthy, one a little bit shorter, and these are going to act like like foundation stones that fit together that will be the basis for our conversation today. And we like to take turns reading here at Tribe and so the first place that we're going to turn is Romans chapter five. And we are going to read verses one through 16. So, I'll give you a moment to turn there and to click on that page in your Bible and we're going to take turns reading verses one through 16 and while we are turning there, for those of you who have walked with the lord, who have journeyed with the lord, who you have apprenticed under the master Jesus for some amount of time. What we're talking about today could send off all kinds like, you could see all kinds of, like, hyperlink in your mind's eye of, like, oh, this verse and this verse and this passage and, ah, and, like, they're just gonna come bubbling up out of you, and that's great and fan fantastic. If it's, like, epic, go ahead and raise your hand. We do wanna hear from you. However, here's what I'm thinking I'd kinda like to do is with with of course, if it's important. And, yes, I'm giving you permission to, like, for us to talk. But if it's at all possible to wait towards the end of the conversation and then formulate your engagement with us today in the form of a question, meaning what questions do you have about the territory that we're covering today? Janet's nodding your head like, yeah, I'm with you. Alright. Romans chapter five verse one through 16. One last preliminary comment. Didn't Lissa and Amanda do great last week? Yeah. Whoo. Man, that's so good. Just like just like in a a family, the optimal expression of a family is from a dad and a mom. I personally believe that the optimal expression of a healthy church is to have the voice of dad and dads and moms. We need mom's wisdom. Like, it was your mom that got you this far already without you like falling out of a tree and breaking your neck and so, we say thank you, mom, on Mother's Day, and we say thank you to you moms for doing such a great job last week. Alright. Colleen, who's gonna start us off? Okay. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with god through our lord Jesus Christ through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. That's a lot of words. Whoo. Yeah. Right there alone like, oh, I gotta I need a nap. Preach. Yeah. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of god. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope, and hope does not disappoint us because god has poured out his love in our hearts by the holy spirit whom he has given us. Alright. My lisdexia has got the best of me again. However great that was, I need to do a a real time correction. Hold on. Oh my gosh. Where am I gonna five more seconds, and it won't be funny. No? Lord, I pray really seriously that that you you walk let Brian walk in the spirit seriously in this moment. Bless him with the words to say. Yeah. And the words we need to hear, Lord. We ask him in Jesus' name. Amen. And I got it. I don't know where Romans five came from. Please, Romans chapter eight. Oh. One through 16. Romans chapter eight. There hey. Hey. How about that? Romans chapter eight. I'm just so glad I caught you. You only got like three or four verses. I was like, what is happening? Romans chapter eight. Please read verses one through 16. Okay. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus, the law of the spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless powerless to do and that it was weakened by the sinful nature. God did by sending his own son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemns sin and sinful man in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us who do not live accordingly to the sinful nature but according to the spirit. Those who live accordingly to the sinful nature have their minds set on what nature desires. But those who live in accordance with the spirit have their minds set on what the spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death. But the mind controlled by the spirit is life and peace. The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Interesting. I mean, there's so much but those who live according to their sinful nature cannot please god. Quick question. This is yes or no answer, and you can just shake your head. Can you build a hospital in a third world country according to your sinful nature. Can you run an orphanage strictly on the donation of the goodwill of Christians and pour your life out for the rescuing and the betterment of orphans in your sin for sinful nature. Yes. Can you go to church every Sunday in your sinful nature? Can you read this book and be in your sinful nature? Can you be in ministry in your sinful nature? Can you preach the word of god? Can you run Sunday school? Can you even pastor a church and not be saved and in your sinful nature? Yes. And the tail end of that sentence was you cannot please god in your sinful nature. Dress it up however you will with religious bedazzlement. He sees right through it and says, depart from me, you who work iniquity, I, what? I never knew you. Well, let's just keep reading. There we are. Verse nine, thank you. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the spirit. Oh, whoo. If you're saved, if in fact, the spirit of god dwells in you, anyone who does not have the spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of the sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness. If the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you he who raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Will also give life to their moral bodies through the spirit who dwells in you. It's great. I love verse 12 how it begins and whenever you see that word, you should always ask a question. What is it when you read? What's the first word in verse 12? Therefore. Therefore, what is the question that you should always ask anytime you encounter that word in the Bible? What's it therefore? That's a little pro tip. As you study god's word, anytime you come across the word, therefore, so Paul is bringing it all together and giving you like the the the meat. This is the the juicy, fruit center of the tasty meal that he's serving up. So, when you see that word therefore, you should always ask, what's it there for? And then you can go back, see what Ollie's been saying, and then now, here's the punchline. Let's continue. Therefore. Yes. Dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if you, through the power of the spirit, you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the spirit of god are children of god. So, you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received god's spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now, we call him Abba Father. For his spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are god's children. Oh, there's so much. So, that's one building block. The next building block that we're going to look at and I think I've figured out the source of my listexia in my notes right here and apparently in my keynote. We're going to turn to Galatians five. Galatians five. So, it's Romans eight. Now, Galatians five and I have real time fact myself. Fact checked myself to confirm that this address is right. Galatians five, and we're gonna look at just two verses in this particular passage. Verse sixteen and seventeen. While you're turning there, I'll go ahead and read it. Galatians five sixteen and seventeen. So, I say, Paul is speaking, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then, you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil which is just the opposite of what the spirit wants and the spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. And I'm going to I'm going to read this from two additional different angles just to help this soak in. From the message that passage says, my counsel is this, live freely, animated, and motivated by god's spirit. Then, you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness. In in my Bible next to that verse from the message, I have written out in the margin of my bible, the little pink monkey theory. If I told you right now, whatever you do for the next eight seconds, do not think about little pink monkeys. What is going through your mind right now, Chris Bates? Little pink monkeys. It always happens, does it? So so here's the thing. If we live our lives as Christians trying not to do something that's inevitably what we end up doing. It's like mountain biking. The idea is your eyes are scanning the trail constantly and when you see a rock, you're like, okay, I wanna avoid that rock that's on the left side of the trail, and then your eyes keep scanning and going. But if you focus on that rock as it gets closer and closer and closer, the percentage of you tagging that rock skyrockets dramatically. It's like the little pink monkeys. So many Christians live their lives like try not to sin, try not to sin, try not to do that thing, try not to do it, and what are you doing? You're just meditating on that thing that you're trying not to do. In the message, it says this, Paul is speaking by counsel as this, live freely, animated, and motivated by god's spirit. Instead of focusing on the rock, focus on god's spirit and then, what will the result be? And then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness or your sinful nature. From the passion translation, that same passage says this, let me emphasize this. As you yield to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self life. When your self life craves the things that offend the Holy Spirit, you hinder him from living free within you. Woah. That's that's so good. So, we're going to circle back around to to these two passages and we're going to out of all of Romans eight, if you want to keep your finger there, we're going to be we're going to camp out on Romans eight. Oh gosh. Now, I'm nervous. There we go. Eight five and Galatians five sixteen through 18. So, we read a lot. We covered a lot of open water in in Romans but we're just going to narrow it down to Romans eight five and then that passage in Galatians. Alright. I need to lay a little bit of groundwork on top of the foundation stones that we've we've just put down to to share with you a couple things. As a species, homo sapien, we are distinct and different in many, many, many, many ways from all of the other animals in god's created order. Now in some ways, there are some some pretty amazing and really cool similarities. Think about how our our muscular system, our skeletal system, like like how we breathe oxygen, how we, like, look around us, like, the the the form of our bones. Like, you can you can recognize the form of our bones similar to other animals and it makes a lot of sense when god who is an incredible designer is like, that's a really that's a really good lever that I can use there. I'll use it in giraffes and Bradens. Like, it just it just it it works in giraffes and it it works in us people. Here's the mistake that many people make, is they mistake similarity in form of some kind that that would rob and strip homo sapiens from the very distinct category that god placed us in as separate and different than all of the other animals in god's created order. We are not higher evolved primates. We're just not, even though some of you might smell like it. I mean, your rock shoes. They're they're a little sneaky. Here's how we are different. According to Genesis chapter one verse 27, god says that he made homo sapiens with only two sexes, male and female. You can identify however you want. You can call yourself a giraffe. That's good for you. Don't make me call you a giraffe because that's not your sex. According to god's word, he made homo sapiens with only two sexes, male and female, and then he did something amazing. He created them how? In his image. When god created Homo sapiens in his image, He made us as a triune being composed of three unique and beautiful parts that all of the other living organisms in god's incredible creation from fungus to the fur bearing seal, we're different in that there are three distinct and unique parts. And I know that that perhaps this is a perhaps a bit of a review for you. But the first part that makes up our being is called a body. That is our earth suit. It's our body. It's our earth suit. It's what we've been given for the assignment that we have until either we die and we go to be with the lord and then return with him when he comes back or when Jesus returns, the Bible says that our mission that requires our earth suit will be complete and then we get a new vessel that we would call a resurrected or a glorified body for the new assignment that we're going to get. But for right now, think of this as our earth suit. It's our physical form and it engages and encounters the earth around us by our five senses. You're you're with me so far. Right? I know you know this. Okay. Okay. Good. Good. So the next thing that we have is a mind or a soul. Our mind and our soul constitute our thoughts, our personality, our emotions, our impulses, the the will. You can think of it as your mind, your will, or your chooser, and your emotions. Some people have their earth suit has either, it was either born damaged or got damaged and their earth suit is is like like super suboptimal but their mind and their soul is like firing like like a 100 on all cylinders. What would be an example of a person whose earth suit not so good, but their mind and their soul is like, wow. Incredible. That's right. Stephen Hawkings. That's who I was thinking of too. Smart dude. Smart dude. Steve in a wheelchair. Stephen Hawkings. So the last part that constitutes who we are is a spirit. And here's the interesting thing about the spirit. It is more real and more durable than our earth suit and our mind and our soul. It is our ultimate reality. And let me clarify that. I chose that word our specifically because I know that some of you might be thinking but isn't god the ultimate reality? Yes, yes, yes, but we're not talking about god right now. We're talking about the the the triune person, the three component person, your truest self is your spirit. Okay. Let's see how well you're grasping the material that's being presented. When you look in the mirror, are you seeing you? Everyone's, I mean, sorta. What, Liz? You're seeing your earth suit. You're seeing your earth suit. This is a great way to think. And every, like, junior high girl and high school girl, like, if you get this, like, you'd be doing awesome. When you look in the mirror, all you are seeing is your earth suit. That's not who you really are. Because your earth suit, it's gonna change throughout your entire life. It's not the ultimate reality. It's just a snapshot of, like, right now. As fine of a physical specimen as your earth suit is Isaac Abad. Hidden that gym. It is just your earth suit. How much emphasis do we put on something that if our blood pump stops working before Jesus returns, it just goes into the ground and becomes dust. Again, When you look in the mirror, that's not who you truly are. That's just your Earth suit. Who where is the locus or the epicenter or the core of who you truly are truly are? Where and who is that? The spirit. You're exactly right. Okay. So I want you to to to think in terms of what we titled the the message. And here's how god intended these three components to interface with one another? And I think I've got them all up here at once. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is a great way to think of it. Think of, like, in a, like, a, you know, like, in medieval times, not at the restaurant medieval times, but in medieval times. Your spirit as the master of the household. Your soul is the manager, and then your body is the mover, the worker bee. So we'll make more and more sense as we put these terms or this concept of the master, the manager, and the mover into a little bit more of a practical scenario. This is how these three interface and interact with one another before a person invites Jesus into their heart and makes him the leader of their life. They are lost as a frisbee on a roof or a kite in a tree gone. The master is essentially dead. He's he's he's he's dormant. He's seemingly absent. With the master of the house being absent, the manager takes charge. The soul acts up and assumes the position of the master and the master is the boss. And the soul or the manager tells the body what to do. Now, what drives the soul or the manager? This is a a an open ended question. What drives or where does the soul get its orders and directives from to carry out? Mind, will, and emotions is one I answer. You can you can say it and I'll repeat it. The spirit. So, remember, this is we're we're playing out a scenario before a person invites Jesus into their heart. The master, the spirit is absent. He's away on a trip, a long trip. Dormant. Dormant. Yeah. Maybe other oh, influenced by other outside influences. Yep. Yep. Yep. That can certainly be true. Who does the the the soul take orders from? There you go. Who said sell for flesh? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The soul is in charge. The soul does what it wants, when it wants, however it wants to do it, ethically, unethically, morally, immorally, legally, illegally. And it commands the body. To follow its rules. The body just is like, who's in charge? I don't I don't really know or care who's in charge. You just tell me what to do. And if your body operates outside of your volitional will, that's a medical condition called epilepsy. I mean, it's spasms. Right? The body never ever it the way that it's designed, never ever ever ever ever can function apart from being told what to do. How about questions regarding what we've just covered because we got a little more ground to cover. The master, the manager, and the mover. You might have different terms in in your mind to think of these concepts. Well, here comes a mic. So the reason why we use the mic in the room, and I so love what you're about to say, is not only for us in the room, but we have a lot of families that watch on the livestream. And when we speak up into the mic, our livestream families get to hear it. So go for it. Okay. I was just saying, like, in the word, it says you can only serve one master. Right? Then it's either the spirit of the lord or the spirit of darkness too. So I think recognizing if you don't have that spirit awoken in you, like you were saying it was dormant, that then you're living under the spirit of darkness in a way because your mind is not being renewed by the holy spirit. So you're just seeing what the world is offering you, what your feelings are telling you. So you just kinda get lost. Like you said, you're already lost, but then even Christians can fall under that too of who which master are you serving? Yep. That's so good, and we're gonna we're gonna talk more about that in in just a moment. But you're you're exactly right. And I could tell that all of your words were saturated with god's word sprinkled in there. So, so good. Many times in scripture, the soul and the body get compressed or fit under the umbrella of what term? The flesh. So, your your soul and your body, they constitute what Paul many times talks about as the flesh. Did you have something or you just holding it? I do have something. Okay. So I agree with what was just said, the master. What about having one mediator, does that incorporate all three or does that does that fall under still fall under the master or how about your Tell me a little bit more by what you mean when you use the term mediator. The the ultimate being, the ultimate spirit, the ultimate authority on on everything. Okay. Great question. Let's answer that now by juxtaposition looking at a different paradigm. The first paradigm that we've looked at is the paradigm of an unsaved person which was the condition of all of us. Before those of us who have invited Jesus into our hearts made him the leader of our life. So, the the first paradigm is a condition that all of us are born into. The Bible says that no one is righteous. No, not one. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of god and you hear me say this all the time. I won't even quote that cross movements lyric but I'll give you another one. Where we come to realize that that we are lost as the word is preached or we encountered the word and I love what that rap group cross movement says. I love what you cooked up to make me looked up. You said I could pick your brain if I just pick your book up and ever since the day you and I hooked up, life has been super fly like Jimmy Snooker. Different paradigm now. The master, when a person invites Jesus into their heart, they get saved. Their spirit comes alive. God places his spirit in our spirit. So, there's this mingling. We still are autonomous but we've been joined with Christ. The master is back on the scene and and and hold your question because I'm starting to answer it and I'll more thoroughly answer it. The master steps back on the scene. This is what god intended for our nature. And this is what Adam and Eve had before they chose to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And their eyes were opened And that lamp of their spirit was blown out. And needed an act of rejuvenation, of reignition. Now, for the person who has invited Jesus into their heart, the master steps back on the scene. The master instructs here is what needs to be done in the household of our being And the master speaks to who? The master is the spirit. The master gives instructions to who? The manager, the soul. You're right. Just think corporately for a second. Right? The the the the owner, the former, whatever you want to say is like, hey, here's what needs to be done. He's not going to get down to the details of actually doing the work because there are other operations to oversee but he's in charge. He tells the manager what needs to happen. And the the master instructs the manager of the commands and then the manager then uses its unique design, personality, your flare, how you were made, to carry out the master's instructions. The manager then commands the mover, the worker, to carry out the commands of the master. And the manager drives the mover until the assignment is complete. You want me to say that one more time? Okay. I will. The master steps back on the scene, and he receives instruction and guidance only from the lord. This is to answer your questions specifically, Clay. Just like in the days of yore, there were multiple castles within the territory or the kingdom of the full sovereign. He was sovereign over the entire land. He was known as the lord. And he gives instructions. He doesn't bother speaking to the mover, the worker bee. He doesn't even deal with the manager. He only speaks to the master of each household. So, the lord of all the kingdom that that answers your question. That's where the lord fits in, right? That's why we, that's partly why we call him the lord. He gives instructions to the master. Your spirit. He speaks to your spirit. Wouldn't it be interesting if whenever the lord spoke, our tails wagged involuntarily. He does not speak to our body. Although he certainly can get our attention through our five senses, through our physical ears, and maybe somebody in here has heard the audible voice of the lord. Maybe you have. But he traditionally follows his pre established lines of authority. The lord speaks to the master. The lord because he is spirit and he's a spiritual being. It makes the most sense for him to speak to our spirit. That makes a lot of sense. When our spirit receives instructions, guidance, counsel, whatever it is from the lord, our job is then to inform our soul or our flesh and then if something needs to be done, our flesh tells the mover what needs to be done. Here's the battle. Oh, that manager. He is. He's feisty. He wants to stay in charge. He spent many, many, many, many years in charge with a master absent before you were saved. And the manager likes to run the show out from underneath the guidance, submission, and authority of the lord. We all have that self preservation drive. The spirit and the soul or your flesh are in conflict with one another. The question is, who will win? I I have one Talk more to me. Is the manager like a like a poor manager that when the boss is away doing other things, the manager is like running his own agenda and then as soon as the boss comes back on the job site, what's the manager do? Quick look busy with this frenetic activity. Look. See, I'm doing good. I'm doing just what you wanted me to, but it's all driven and motivated by the self in the flesh even if that is religious activity. I tell you what, a a real don't get confused. A religious spirit, not the holy spirit or not your spirit but a religious spirit and a a a snaky entity loves loves to do to run its game of fulfilling its own desires within the context of religion or religious setting. It can be confusing and it can be tricky. That's why Paul says, I believe it's in Romans, every man's work will be tested by what? Fire. All of your actions, all of your deeds will someday, when you stand before the lord, will be tested by fire. The wood, hay, and stubble of good deeds that you've done will be burnt up and consumed and nothing will be left. The gold, however, those things done in faith. Bob, the Bible says in Hebrews, it is impossible to please the lord without what? Faith and we just read it earlier in Romans. I can't remember it but we we stopped and talked about it for a moment. Those things done as from directives given by the master received or excuse me, given by the lord, received by the master, carried out through the manager, and actually accomplished by the mover, those things the Bible says are like gold and they will be what? Refined. Refined. And they will last and they will endure. God could care less about how many clicks, follows, views, dollars that you've given towards religion. If it is not done in faith, it will burn and it will not last. Your flesh, no matter how you bedazzle it, will not and cannot ever. Please the lord. Because our flesh is in contradiction to the spirit and even and and and our flesh is governed and run by itself. I I don't know why this didn't make it into my notes or maybe I just missed it. The flesh only wants two things. It only ever wants two things. Number one, to continue to to stay in its position of influence and power. And number two, pleasure. However, pleasure is defined. Pleasure is not for for for some, maybe it's sitting on the couch and, you know, doom scrolling. Pleasure for others can look like hard work and industrious service and and and lots of good deeds and plenty of recycling and I don't know what. Anything done in the flesh has no eternal value whatsoever because it is a system and an establishment of authority that is in rebellion to the lord. Really practical example. Let's say that as think about a a job site. Let's say as the I've got the the the blueprints, which is the the will and the plan of the the lord and I have these as the job site master. I'm I'm the foreman and there are a couple of different crews that are working. I know the plan. I give it to the master, and then with his work crews, he goes in and tells the movers what to do. You're following me so far. Right? Okay. Well, what if as the lord, the superintendent with the blueprints, I tell the master a guy who's running up a crew, here's what I want you to do. And the master says, yep. Okay. Okay. Got it. Well, let's say the master is out of the picture because the master always does what the lord wants. The master, your born again self is is in perfect tune with the lord. So master is running an errand. Tells the manager what to do. The manager says, yep. Got it. And then the manager goes and does something else even if it's like like good. Is the lord gonna be pleased? No. That's not what I told you to do. Yeah, but look at the walls that I framed up. Yeah, but I went ahead and and sheeted these walls. I went ahead and then like, I got the roof papered. Like, it's gonna rain soon. We should nope. It's not what I asked you to do. Fail. But it needed to be done. Nope. So to begin to land the plane, and then let's answer just a couple of questions. What does it mean this is the first time we're we're talking about this, this, and we're gonna spend several weeks talking about it. What does it mean to walk in the spirit? What does it mean to walk in the spirit? It means that the master or the spirit, your born again spirit that is in counion with God's holy spirit is in charge of the self that's you. And it only carries out the wishes of the Lord. Only ever. It never does anything out of want. It never does anything, this is a big one, out of need or out of opportunity. It is unfazed by fame and opposition. It don't matter how hard that road is. If the lord has spoken to the spirit, the master, the master of yourself that's in communion with the holy spirit is like, this is this is what we gonna do. I don't care emotions and will and intellect and and how smart you are. If you don't think it's a good idea, if you think it's a great idea, it don't matter. I need you to give instructions to the mover to get her done. That's why Paul says in first Corinthians nine twenty four through 27, in a race, don't all the runners run, but only one gets the prize. Run-in such a way as to get the prize. And then he says, I beat my body and I make it my slave. Paul is bossing himself around. All that flesh. I don't know about your flesh. Maybe your flesh is really well behaved. Mine, oh, it is lazy. It is naughty. Oh, it is always trying to go from one ditch to another. And then the worst part about this flesh is when it was like, okay, okay, I'll get my act together and then I'll do religious stuff. Quick anecdote and then think about your questions. Let's answer some questions. Bible's story. Think of the good Samaritan. Consider if if you read between the lines and you look at the story of the good Samaritan, think of all that the good Samaritan could and maybe should have done. He took him to an inn. Why wouldn't a good Samaritan just bring him into his home? Why wouldn't a good Samaritan just bring him along with him? The good Samaritan said, hey, keep an account of his bills and when he comes back up, I'll settle the bill. Why didn't the good Samaritan just give that guy a new head start with a extra five k, you know, get you on your feet bonus. There's so much that the good Samaritan didn't do. And in this story, it's because the good Samaritan has that the master is in place. And and even though the manager's like, what if we did this? And what if we did this? And well, maybe we shouldn't go over to the other side of the road, even help him in the first place. The master was in charge, embossed his flesh around. So, here's what we're gonna do. Here's what we're not gonna do. Walking in the spirit means becoming in tune and putting the rightful boss, your spirit, in charge. Questions? I guess it's not really a question, but just adding to it, I I would say the master is a good master, and what what's his body worth anyways? But it's the temple. So Absolutely. You need something to carry out the instructions of the master, your body. And the the better you take care of your body, even though it wears down and breaks down, the better you take care of your body, the better you are positioned to carry out the instructions of the master. I wanna ring out every last ounce of potential of this old air earth suit. I was gonna just say the good news part of and we talk about, oh, this flesh does this and this, and then anything we do that's not surrendered to the lord and in faith, like, it's just gonna be burned up and you can build orphanages and that's all true. Then the good side is, like, in Matthew 10, I think it is, it says, if anyone even gives a cup of cold water to one of these, who is my disciple, truly I tell you this person will certainly not lose their reward. So, I mean, like, even the smallest thing done in the spirit is awesome to the Lord. That's that's the key that is so hard. Anyone who gives a cup of cold water, how? In what way? In my name. That's the key right there. So you got people handing out like cups of cold water that they're at just like they're at mile 15 on the aid station of a marathon. Cha, pop, pop, pop. But if it's not and it doesn't even you can even say, well, in the name of Jesus, I'm doing doing all this, but it it it's the origin comes from your flesh. It don't count. But if god says, hey, one cup of cold water to that person, whatever that actually may look at look look like. And your mind is like, yeah, but that's gonna be weird. That's gonna be that's gonna cause some pain to my flesh. It just needs to go ahead and die, and you you tell that your spirit tells the mover, do that. And it does that, God's like, so awesome. So, I was gonna go And back then to the good Samaritan. And the fact is, I don't know how many times or so in the past, learning the hard way to do something good that god didn't order. He didn't acknowledge. I thought this is a good thing to do this for this person, and it turns out to be a disaster. So my point is sometimes, god will withhold the good thing from what I think I need to do. Sure. Now, is it send that mic back to Sarah. Some of you may leave here today like a little bit nervous. Like, oh my gosh. Like, I can't do anything because I don't wanna do it in the flesh. I'm gonna let that sit on you. Good. Good. Consider deeply what you're doing. Is it motivated, inspired by god's holy spirit? Or have you if maybe some of you are doing something right now in the name of like church or god but it's just all out of your flesh. The kindness and goodness of the lord would be to tell you that and god's holy spirit will expose it in your heart right now like, baby girl, that thing you've been doing, that's in your flesh and I don't want it to be burned up. Submit it, surrender it to me. It might need to die or submit it, surrender it to me, and and then I'll put my super on your natural and watch it just explode with with life. You answered me right there. So Oh, you wanna reask it? Well, I was just gonna say, like, how do we know as people, like, if it is our flesh or if it's from the planet too. In the sense of like, oh, like, I feel guilty about this. Like, that is And if you feel that pull on your heart of, hey, baby girl, I've got something better. Because that's how the Lord speaks to girls. To you? No. To girls. To me, he says to me, he says, boy, but he's a lot gentler with you, girl. Baby girl, that's not what I have for you. If you feel that, oh, thank you. Thank you for the conviction of the Holy Spirit that that the the lord speaks to the master and the master is trying to get the attention of the manager, my flesh. Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Repent. I'm sorry. Help me. Lord, I believe. Help me with my unbelief. Oh, the good that I want to do, I can't do. The the wrong that I shouldn't do, I keep doing, and then he keeps going back and forth and Paul eventually says, who will rescue me from this body of death? Praise be to god, our father, through the man, Jesus Christ. Jesus, help me. You learned obedience through what you suffered. Guess what? Jesus did not have, Jesus was not born with a fallen nature but his manager every bit wanted to be the boss as much as the master. That's why he says, man does not live by bread alone. That's why he says, I've got food you do not know. That's why he told Peter, get behind me, Satan. I was just thinking like, how can you please someone you don't know? God is so good and I feel like the more that I learn about him, the more that I wanna serve him because I know he knows a lot more than I do. Yes. And that, like, everything that he wants for us is good no matter if we agree or not. But I think, like, the more I know him and I the more I know his goodness and his desires for Yes. Wouldn't it be great? Let's send it all the way back to Sarah. Wouldn't it be great if when we got born again, the the master came back and the manager got synced up as well. Wouldn't that be awesome? I don't even I don't even wanna cuss. I don't even want, like, whatever your flesh wants to do. I don't even want to. I just wanna follow the lord. And your emotions were, like, all the time psyched on serving Jesus. And, like, your emotions and your will and your choosing were, yeah, let's die to self. That's awesome. Great. That's not the reality that we live with for now. But there will come a day, oh, there will come a day where we will all be synced up. And then up to Lanisha, and then let's bring the plane in for landing. Just I wrote down in my notes, what does the spirit desire from first five, I think. And it came to be the fruits of the spirit. Right? So love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, hosting the the spirit. Right? So he's like a dove who sits on our shoulder. And if we work in love and joy and peace, he stays. Right? And as soon as we allow bitterness Strife. To anger, the dove, obviously, goes somewhere else for a little while. Right? So just allowing in those moments of strife and bitterness to recognize, holy spirit, come. Right? Holy spirit, come. Take over. I'm I'm gonna react. I know as a mom, I'm all day. Holy spirit, come. You know? So that might just be an encouragement in that moment. Ask him to come, and he will. Great. Pass the mic right back there. And then, Lanisha. So fruits of the spirit, an apple tree. Let's think about an apple tree really quick. Have you ever seen an apple tree be like, make an apple. I gotta make an apple. Apple trees just make apples. They don't even have to try. They don't have to ask, like, Chad GTP, what is, like, the chemical formula of an apple? And then now I gotta, like, man we can try to manufacture those things in our flesh. God's like, stinky. But when we are hosting the Holy Spirit, and like we read earlier, we're just walking in the spirit. They just bubble up. Yes, and then yes. I just wanna make a quick point of clarification because there's a difference between the presence of the lord on us and the Holy Spirit living in us. So I just wanna make sure that it's not, you know, no one who's new to the faith will come away with, like, the Holy Spirit can leave you after you're saved. Like, the Holy Spirit, when you're saved, comes and lives. But there are definite there definitely is the presence of God that come on can come on us, and there are definitely things that we can do to attract the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives and things that we can do that he would wanna depart from. So I just wanted I felt like that was an important point of clarification. Sure. How about these two words to synthesize what you two just said that to to to be in harmony with one? There's his residence person in spirit that takes up his will. He make my heart Christ's home. That's a great book. But, also, his manifest presence is attracted by the fragrance of our submission and desiring his presence to operate in and through us. You're both right. Something that's been bubbling in my spirit while you were talking is about how for us Christians who have the holy spirit living inside of us. It just especially for someone in the room now as well. The Holy Spirit is always wanting to speak to us. He loves to speak to us. He loves to give us good wisdom and directions to follow so we can produce beautiful fruit and live after our king. But when sin comes to our life or repetitive sin or disobedience, that can become a roadblock for you being able to hear clearly from the holy spirit. And we touched a little bit on this earlier, but the importance of confessing sin to allow that to be laid down, forgiven at the cross is so important for your ears to truly be open again, to hear what the Holy Spirit has to say for you. So I don't know for anyone in this room who you've been knowing or during the service, your heart's been beating. Like, I need to confess and lay this down. I need the Lord to take this off of my back so I can hear clearly what the spirit has for me because you have so many questions for the spirit and he wants to speak to you, but you have to take that first step of admitting this where in your life that you need to lay it down for him this week. If I can just pray that real quick, please. God, thank you so much for not only sending your son to die on the cross but also then sending a helper for us to live inside of us, to guide and correct us. It is a beautiful, beautiful part of your body, Lord. God, I just pray for the ones in this room who have allowed sin to continue to lead their life. I pray for the believers in this room who know what they need to lay down but they have just been so fearful to hear what you have to say, god, but I just pray now for more of your grace on them. Let them know that your arms are so open and there's so much love in your heart to pour over your daughter and your son. Lord, I just pray that they're able to confess. I pray that their ears are able to be open again to the moving power of the holy spirit. Let our ears be open, god, and not deaf to what you're doing, what you're saying, holy spirit. Because you're always speaking to us. Let us see you as the beautiful master ready to give us so much more wisdom and fruit. Thank you. In Jesus' name. Before you say amen, before you say amen, let's just stay in the moment. Holy Spirit, just speak to us. Allow the prayer that Lanisha spoke to just settle on us like grass that receives the morning dew. Blanket us. Come holy spirit of the living god. Rest on us. Collectively, we repent from our flesh being allowed to run the show. Help us to put our spirit man back in the seat and place of authority that is in perfect union and in sync with you. Help us to crucify and lay in that tomb the deeds of the flesh no matter how good intentioned or even religious they may appear. Come, holy spirit. While Lanisha was praying, I just see a picture that someone has just been praying and praying and longing for healing. And they've just been crying out to the Lord for healing, healing, Lord. Come. And what they have yet to deal with, like Lanisha was saying, is what's keeping you from receiving and experiencing the healing is bitterness. And I just see this picture of the healing is there. It's just right there. But what's keeping you from grabbing a hold of it is just bitterness, and the good news is that you can just take care of that with the Lord right now. And maybe you don't even know what the bitterness was caused from, but he knows. Or maybe you know full well. And maybe it's time to just let that go because the healing is already there. It was provided for you on the cross. So, Lord, speak to any hearts in this room that have been longing for healing. Let them be quick to repent of any bitterness. Oh, that's our prayer that we would seek the things that are matter to you, that our life would be a hallelujah to you. Break our hearts for what breaks yours, and let us walk in faith. Teach us, Lord. As we just remain in this attitude of worship, just just for a few more minutes, then we'll get you out of there for your Mother's Day lunch. We just wanna worship the Lord in another expression, and we spent all of last week talking about this. But Lissa just said when some when you have a hallelujah, and that's a song that we sing. Right? It's a song called gratitude, and it's like, sometimes all I have is a hallelujah. Well, guess what? That's an expression of worship. That is your breath, your will giving that to the Lord. And so we have worshiped the Lord today and honored him. And really, if I could just say the whole service in one word, it would be obedience. Right? That's what we're talking about. Our spirit being aligned and calibrated in obedience to what the Lord is asking of us. And so when we get together at Tribe just as a corporate worship service, we not only honor him and worship him through the reading of his word and through your questions and our comments and our conversation. We do it with song at the beginning and the end in this worship time, and then we always bring our tithe and our offering to the Lord because that is an expression of worship. And like you hear us say all the time, that just says, God, I trust you with something that's very important. Money is kinda how we make exchanges. Right? And it can have a grip on our heart. We talked about that. Whether you have a little or a lot, money can be a funny thing. And so Cudd is so brilliant, and he created that expression of worship that we get to bring to him because it keeps us calibrated and it keeps us a reminder that we're not in control that the Lord is. And so as we bring our tithe and then above in that our offering to him today, as you do that every day from whatever your local church is, that's where you should give. It's an expression of worship. It keeps us calibrated, and it does the work of the ministry, and it blesses God's heart. It's just a win all the way around. So we're gonna pray together. There's a few ways here at Tribe you can give. As you see on the screen, the easiest way is to just get your smartphone, and you type a number to 84321, and then you type in the amount as if it's the message, and then it'll give you some instructions. That's a really easy way to do it on any rhythm. Another way we don't pass buckets. I mean, we're in a bar. We do things different. Right? So no no plate passing, but there is a little box. It's actually when you walked in today and saw those treats and coffee on the left, there's a little drop box there that you can put your cash or check. And then those, while we're talking about this, on your seat, there's a little place where you can write your name and information. On the back, you can write a prayer request. The same box that you would drop your cash or check-in is where you can drop those. So right at the entrance, put those little cards in there, and let's just pray. Whether you're giving now or another time, let's pray together as a tribe family. Heavenly father, thank you for the honor that we have to partner with you. You're God. You're infinite. You could do anything you wanted, and you allow us messy humans to partner with you and to be your hands and feet and your mouth to do the work of the ministry, and we get to do that. All of us, whether your job is ministry or not. If you're a Christian and a disciple of Jesus, we get to do the work that you've laid before us, and we thank you for that, father. I pray for everybody here who's giving as an expression of worship, Lord, we just collectively say, we trust you and we love you, and it is all yours anyway. So today, we bring a portion of our hard earned money, and we just lay it at your feet. And we say, God, it's yours anyway. What an honor it is to worship you and bring our tithe to you every week. In Jesus name, amen. And just a few really quick things, we'll get you out of here. Let them partner with you in faith and trust the Lord for that thing that's on your heart today. But I wanna encourage you, we have lots of opportunities to serve actually, and if you're like, well, where can I serve? Please come see me after service. They are they can be annoying. They can be I'm a mom, so I feel like I am a teacher. I can have authority to say this, but, like, they can be pretty pretty hard and pretty bad. Right? But they're so important to the lord. It is our job to help steer them and to help foster them and to call out their identity and to pull out who god made them to be. And Kelsey does that in tribe kids. And so if you would like to serve in that area, if your heart is being pulled, or if you're like, you know what? I don't feel like it, but I'm gonna discipline, boss my flesh around, and do it. Please come see me after the service. It it doesn't have to be every week. Over 20 ladies, lots of conversation, lots of fruit happening, and that was just week one. So it's never too late to jump in. Or if you're like, well, I can't commit to all of them. That's alright. Just come to some. Write it down on Wednesday nights at 05:30. And then the other one that is kicking off tomorrow is a men's study, same place at the TMC. It's gonna be at 06:00. There's special alone time and it has its purpose, but we were made for community. We need to hold each other accountable to stuff. We need to lift each other up. We are made for community.
