Let's lift our voice and sing that one more time. Just as a declaration, sing it over yourself today. That all your life, he has been faithful even when you weren't faithful to him. He's never left you or forsaken you. So Lord, right now before we sing this, with a grateful heart, we thank you today.

We thank you today that you are never changing. That you are the same yesterday, today, and forever. And that even when we go down different paths, you are steadfast, calling us, running after us. And today, Lord, we just say we're done running away. That's right.

We run to you today. Let us throw off anything that would hinder us from experiencing your presence today. Maybe as you sing this chorus, it's hard because you know that you have sin in your life right now that is making you feel like you're apart from him. And he's got his arms open wide today. All you need to do is ask for forgiveness.

It's already been paid for in full. Lord, would you forgive me? He already knows. Just get right with him this morning. Let him search your heart because he's faithful to you.

Just take a minute. Lord, search our hearts. Is there anything in us that's not pleasing to you? Give you permission. Of the goodness of God.

I will Lord, we thank you for what you're gonna speak to us today and how we're gonna leave this park different and changed because we surrendered more and more to you today. Thank you for meeting us here. Give us open hearts to hear your voice today and yours and yours alone. In Jesus' name, and everybody said, good job, guys. Coming out on the what seemingly looked like a stormy day.

Would you greet somebody? If there's somebody that looks unfamiliar to you, introduce yourself. Fill up your coffee and come on. Get your Bibles out.

I know. Not quite yet. Alright. You know what they here in Jackson Hole, there's no such thing as bad weather, just Bad gear. Bad gear.

That's right. That's right. That's right. Oh, man. I love seeing all of you guys out here.

Was it going to be wet? Was it going to be dry? We might get a little bit of everything this morning. So I'm depending on how long I preach. So if you wanted to test out that new Gore Tex jacket, just keep amending me, and we'll preach longer.

No. No. No. No. This is this is really cool.

So good to see you guys. And this is who we have last Sunday of outdoor August before we make another shift and move one more time like a wandering tribe as we travel from place to place. This is really cool. So I want to give you a quick recap of where we've been to set up the conversation for this morning, and then we'll have our conversation, and then we'll end with just a little bit of a time of of special prayer before we literally pack up camp, but metaphorically pack up camp and move on to the next campsite. But if you've been with us for a while, you will remember that while we're here in we're doing outdoor August, we have been in a series of conversations that I'm calling Jesus would get canceled for that.

And we're looking at some things that in the life and ministry of Jesus, things that he did, places that he went, things that he said that as we read them in the Bible, we tend to have such a sanitized and biased picture of Jesus that when we read these things in the Bible, we're like, yes, of course, and we're right there, like, cheering him on and amen ing him and, good job, Jesus. But if we had been in the cultural context of the day in which he was speaking, in which he was traveling, in which the people that he engaged with, how many of us would maybe recoil a little bit? How many of us would take a moment and be like, oh, I don't know if that was the best thing to say, Jesus. Oh, I don't know if you should have gone there. I don't know if you should have said that to that woman, Jesus.

Like, oh, and we might have cringed as well. And when we have a collision of the sanitized version of Jesus that we tend to read in the Bible with our current contemporary context of the world that we live in today, guess what happens? We get challenged, and the words of Jesus become more real and powerful because we are forced to reckon with, how would I respond to what Jesus was saying if he were in a public park? And that's another reason why we're doing this particular series here in the park is it also carries a little bit of weight with it. When we talk about things that Jesus would get canceled for, and we've got amplified sound, which we're permitted for in here in Powderhorn Park, it gets a little bit more real.

And perhaps some of the things that we've been talking about for the last couple of weeks with our amplified sound here in the park that anybody can stop by and listen and hear, it gets the they have a little bit more weight and a little bit more meaning. And so just to let you know where we've been, on week one, we looked at Luke chapter nine where Jesus says that the way to find your life is by laying it down in the midst of a contemporary culture that is so self absorbed and so solipsistic, meaning, like, you yourself are the center of the entire universe when there is a day and age of people that are consumed and it is marketed of, like, you need to find yourself and you need to find your own way and what is your journey and what is your I just really need to take some time for some self care. There's nothing wrong with those things when they're in their proper place and context, but Jesus says something that would that would have immediately got him canceled. He said, you want to find yourself? You want to find your life?

The best thing that you can do is lay down your life and follow me. Jesus would get canceled for that message today. Then the next week, we looked at John chapter 14 where he says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus would get canceled immediately for not being very inclusive. In today's day and age, everybody has their own truth, and it is welcomed and celebrated.

And even if within your own truth, even in there, you have conflicting principles and axioms that really you just live by if we were to be honest when it's convenient for you. Oh, that's pretty cool. Now I'm free to roam and prowl. So Jesus says in John chapter 14 that it's not pursuing your truth and that there are a million ways to heaven and essentially just be a good person. And if you worship God by the name of God, great.

If you worship God by the name of Buddha, great. If you worship God by the name of Brahman or Joseph Smith or any fill in the blank of any other god, like, oh, that's good. You know, all roads basically lead to God if you're a good person. That's not what Jesus said. And for him to say that in those days was challenging.

For him to say that in these days, as his voice still speaks right now through this climbing dirtbag skim bum, as his voice still speaks those truths, they would get him canceled. He says, I am the way. There are million ways to Jesus, but there's only one way to the father, and that is through his son Jesus because name any other god in the pantheon of gods. None of them lived a sinless life. None of them laid down their life to pay for the sins of mankind.

Only Jesus, not Oprah. Then last week, we talked about, something that on the surface is is in that day it was and in this day it still is. We looked at, Matthew chapter 15 where Jesus calls a woman a dog. In those day and age, that was offensive and rude and inappropriate and out of line, and today, it would get you canceled so fast before you could even post a redaction, you'd be canceled across all of your social media platforms. And when Jesus called this woman a dog, what we looked at last week is there's a whole lot more going on than him just being, you know, like, being hangry.

But what we said last week was Jesus wasn't insulting her identity by calling her a dog. He was creating a moment to demonstrate her devotion. And so in that moment, if you remember the story that we read last week, is that that woman pressed in. She wasn't she wasn't offended by that. She wasn't deterred.

She wasn't so soft skinned that she was like, Jesus, you hurt my feelings, and I still want that miracle. She just pressed right through. And we're still talking about that woman's bravery two thousand years later. And so here we are, the last week. This is week four of Jesus would get canceled for that.

And if you have your Bibles with you this morning, we're gonna look at Matthew chapter eight. One more occasion that we see in scripture that we've prob you've probably read this story before. You probably just cruised right through it, but we're gonna slow down, read this, examine it a little closer, see how his words might have been a little bit confusing, or or what are you talking about? Why would you do that back then? But today, it would, for sure, quickly get him canceled.

So Matthew chapter eight, and I'm gonna go ahead and no. Let's have somebody else read. We have the mic today. Right? Oh, Robert's got the mic.

So let's whoever would like to read, and we'll read Matthew chapter eight. Let's read Amanda's gonna read? Run it. Oh, Amanda's gonna run the mic. Okay.

Let's see. I mean, I have I have a few verses that I specifically wanna read. Oh, let's start at verse 14. Matthew chapter eight verse 14, and let's go oh, man. All the way to 27.

Matthew chapter eight verses 14 through 27. Whoever would like to read that, if you want to read the whole thing, go for it. If not, you can bite off a small chunk and then hand it to somebody else. Whoever would like to read. Thank you, Ella, so much.

When Jesus arrived at Peter's house, Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him. That evening, many demon possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick.

This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah who said, he took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.

Woo hoo. That was 14 old what did I say to read?

Starting up. Hello? When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he instructed his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. Then one of the teachers of the religious law said to him, teacher, I will follow you wherever you go. But Jesus replied, foxes have den and birds have nests, but the son of man has no place even to lay his head.

Another of his disciples said, Lord, first, let me return home and bury my father. But Jesus told him, follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead. Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake with waves breaking into the boat, but Jesus was sleeping.

The disciples went and woke him shouting, Lord, save us. We're going to drown. And Jesus responded, why are you afraid? You have so little faith. Then he got up and reviewed the wind and the waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

The disciples were amazed. Who is this man? They asked. Even the winds and the waves obey him.

Great. The Lord blessed the reading of his word this morning. If you're taking notes, at the top of your notes, you write the title of the conversation that we're going to have this morning. This is Jesus would get canceled for that week four. You're not being very sensitive, Jesus.

That's where we're going in our conversation today. So let's narrow down the text. Sometimes I like us to to read maybe just a few verses because we're gonna go really deep in that. As often as possible, I like to give us, you know, like a like a meat, like a sandwich that has meat in it. The meat is in the middle, and then you surround it by the the the fix ins, and that helps us to give us a little bit more context of what's happening.

Now, I know that all of you can always go back and read a little more at the beginning, read a little more after to get a great understanding of the context of which is going on. Sometimes, I like to for us to read it so we kind of know like where Jesus has been, what he's up to. But the meat that I would like us or excuse me, the tofu for any I don't wanna get canceled. The delicious goo filled center. The delicious goo filled center.

How about that? Who doesn't like goo filled center? Oh, Sofia doesn't. Alright. See, I can't win for anything.

The best part. How about the best part? What I want us to focus on this morning is just, the verses, 18 through 22. That's really where we're gonna spend most of our time. Let me read those to you one more time, and then we're gonna unpack it.

When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he instructed his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, teacher, I will follow you wherever you go. But Jesus replied, foxes have dens to live in, birds have nests, but the son of man has no place even to lay his head. Okay. Verse 21, another of his disciples said, Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.

But Jesus told him, follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead. That's where we're gonna be spending, our time this morning is right in those few verses. If you look at Matthew chapter eight verses 18 through 22, I'd like to hear from you what sort of observations you have if you were to use your sanctified imagination, picture yourself hearing Jesus say those words, and I'd love to hear from you what do you think that Jesus said that could have either ruffled somebody's feathers, pet their cat the wrong way, or would have gotten him canceled. Listen to the words of Jesus as if he were saying those and you were in that crowd.

What do you think people would have had a hard time with? And you can start at at at that first part and go through, or just what do you see and notice? The reason why we have a mic here in the park, I know that all the way back in the cheap seats LA is this morning, I know that you could hear me even without a mic, but we use a mic so that all of our families that are traveling and and going hither and thither across the country, they get to tune in to the livestream and still be a part of the conversation. So that's why we have the mic. Amanda is running it around today.

So I'd love to hear from you. What do you see in that passage that you think people would have had a difficult time with? Just raise your hand. All the way up front. Uh-huh.

Kick it out. What a surprise. No. I love it.

Well, the line that, you know, let the spiritually dead bury their dead. I mean, that's a little judging it.

Yeah.

I mean, how did where is it that he spent time with them to establish the fact they were spiritually dead?

Yeah. How does he know that?

That's very

How does he know? You know? Yeah. How does he know that that the assumption that the the father who was physically dead, potentially, we're gonna talk about it, was also spiritually dead like, ouch, Jesus. Like, that's not what you say at a funeral.

That guy he was terrible. Every funeral he ever went to, he just made a mess of every single funeral he went to. What else do you see? Ian. Just

the first part. So the I like that we read starting in 14. So he's healing folks and casting out demons and then there's a big crowd around him. So he tells his disciples to boogie because there's too many people. So the crowd is all surrounding him and a and a religious leader says, I'll follow you.

And so now, this is a big show where the religious leader is like, I'll follow you Jesus and all these people around are like, well, he's pretty cool. He heals people. I wanna follow him too. And then Jesus is basically saying to that religious leader, like, you have a house. You're rich because of your position.

I'm I don't have any of that. I'm not going to have any of that. So he's really, like, comparing himself to or pitting himself against the religious leader being, like, like, if you wanna follow me, you have to things because I don't have a place to lay my head. And all these people are suddenly like, oh, wait. Maybe there's not the high esteem or like, you know, it's like viewed very differently than how the world thinks someone in this position

should Yes. For generations, we've talked about people who are homeless, but you can't say that to a homeless person now because it'll hurt their feelings. What we say is housing insecure. Okay. What else do you see?

Oh, there

it is.

In this passage when he is referring to the man who just lost his father, there's no instance, at least in the original Greek, that there was any reference to spiritually dead. Like, in any translation I've read is, like, let the dead bury their own dead. And so, like, from that first instance, dude just lost his dad. He just wants to go bury him, and Jesus is saying, like, never mind that. Just come follow me.

Like, come on. Be a little more sensitive. Bro just lost his dad. Let him bury his dad.

Jesus, you're not being very sensitive. Good observation. Good observation. Wanna draw our attention to a couple of things here. Ian touched on it first.

Look at verse 18. When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he instructed his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. Now why was there a crowd around Jesus? Well, there's the generic answer because he was such a revolutionary with things that he said, the places that he went, and the things that he did that there were so many people rubbernecking and looking to get a view of him. They were gapers just like, what's he doing now?

He's surrounded by a crowd of gapers constantly and continually. People who are curious about who is this guy. And we see that he adjust if we if we go back, rewind the tape beyond verse 18, which we read at the beginning starting in verse 14, we see that Jesus was doing some really impressive things. He was healing people. Then he he was casting out demons.

He goes to Peter's mom's house. He heals her, and then the Bible says that he healed every sick and demon possessed person that was brought to him. That's why the crowds were going off. And then right in the middle of all of this crowds, all of this momentum that was building, Ian noticed it. What does Jesus say to his disciples?

Let's pack up camp and move.

I think Ian said let's boogie.

Let's boogie. Yeah. Let's let's move. So he instructs his disciples to move. How counterintuitive is that?

Especially, let's say that you are you are not just an employee. Let's say that you are a business owner. And for those of you who own a business and have a business, you don't ever stop the momentum of your business as it's picking up, or like in elk hunting, what did Tim Vedder teach us? You never leave elk to To find elk. To go find elk.

Write that down. Never leave elk to go find elk. Right, Steve? I mean, at least put a stock on, do what you can right there. You never know.

Maybe it'll pay out, maybe it won't pay out, but you're like, don't ever leave elk to go find elk. So in a similar way, there's a there's a momentum that is being built around the ministry of Jesus, and right in the midst of that, Jesus tells his disciple, let's boogie. Get the boat ready because we're gonna cross over to the other side of the lake. Have that mic. Bethany has a thought or a question.

I just had a hyperlink as you were talking that to a sermon that Lissa did some kind of months ago about Philip. And she made the point of that, like, there was all this ministry happening in, like, the book of Acts and that Philip was called to, like, go off to the place that he went off to. And that like he was called like there's all this stuff happening. There's big momentum and yet still he was like called to go to this different place. And so I was just that what you were talking about was making me think of that.

What a what a great hyperlink. Yeah. There's revival breaking out in Jerusalem, and God tells Philip, go walk down the road to Jericho to leave all of the people and all the ministry that was happening. And if you're going to follow Jesus, following Jesus means not only following him when it's convenient and pleasant and going in the direction and the way that you want to go, boy, that's pretty fun and easy, but it also means following Jesus when it doesn't make sense, when the momentum is not going in that direction, when it's counterintuitive to what you think the direction should be, surely we're gonna capitalize on this. Jesus, now, do you want us to like break up into teams of two and talk to people and and tell them about you, and should we fill up the baptismal like this is gonna be great.

You're meant to. Yeah.

But then, Amanda, another one in the back of Boonee hat. But it's right in the midst of that growing momentum that Jesus sends his disciples to go prepare the boat to leave that area. Yes.

I'm looking at verse 16, it says that evening many demon possessed people were brought to Jesus. That kind of implies that a friend says, hey, you're demon possessed, why don't you come meet Jesus? And so that's already a way to get canceled is tell your friend they're demon possessed. That's good. And we should go see Jesus.

Well, that's really good. Everybody look to your neighbor and say, no. I mean, think of think of the obstacles that had to be overcome just to get a person there to to even be within proximity of Jesus for a miracle to happen. Amazing. In a similar way, think about us as a tribe fam.

You know, if I rewind the clock all the way back to just before the breakout of COVID, we're meeting in Snow King Hotel. We've got seats for a 110, a 120 people. We have a children's ministry that's bursting at the seams with a small army of volunteers running out. We had greeters. We had we had a coat check team that had in ear mind.

We, you know, we had all the trappings of, like, a growing church. And then the Lord's like, hey. Here's what I want you to do. Get ready for what we called at the time discipleship church, which was taking this growing new church called tribe and fracture it and splinter it up and have people meet in homes. Little did we know that COVID was about to roll across the world, but God had us prepared.

And then from there, we met in people's homes, outdoors. We met on the hillside at the base of Snow King. And then every now and then, the sprinklers would come on on the hillside in the evening and it turned into a baptismal service. And then we got the TMC, which for many of you, that was the very first place that you knew of to call Tribe home. And it was, oh, it's I don't know.

It's not too much bigger than the covering of this pavilion, and we would squeeze in for multiple services on Sunday and throughout the week, and it was our great home. And and every single time it seems as though our tribe fam is about to reach what the world would say is like, oh, we're about to reach this critical mass. We've got this momentum going. Jesus says, what? Let's boogie.

And so here we have been in the park for four weeks now, and just as we're getting something like, you know, I kind of like bringing my folding chair. I kind of like being able to hang out with people afterwards. I kind of like being able to to park right here close. Just as soon as we get comfortable with that, Jesus is telling our tribe fam what, let's boogie, and we're gonna move again. Next week, we're going to be meeting on Sundays indoors at 5PM at First Bee.

And our First Bee friends and family have been so gracious to rent that space to us. And even though it's chilly now, like, let's like lean into this a little bit. Like, you get to bring a camp chair to church. You get to pick at blades of grass. You get to like when the sun comes out, you get to like take off your jacket.

When the sun goes away, you get to put on your jacket. Next week, we're gonna be in a climate controlled environment. Next week, we're gonna have an incredible place and ministry team to take care of all of our tribe kids. Yay. That's and that's one of the big reasons that we're moving.

And so one of the things that I want us to take notice of here, I just have just like a few more observations, is that oftentimes, right as it feels to you as if you have a good thing going, he doesn't want to upset you for the purpose of, oh, your life's doing good. Here, let me throw a curveball at you. But he doesn't want us to get complacent in our life. He wants to keep us on our toes and ready and willing to be able to follow him. The whole purpose the whole purpose of when CrossFit got started and functional training is so that you're doing all different kinds of exercises all the time so you don't just, like, turn into a gym bro with giant chest because all you ever do is bench press.

What's the term muscle confuse I wasn't looking at you, although you're very fit, Ryan. Don't cancel me. Let me just come over here a long way away from Ryan. There's nothing wrong with bench press. But Jesus does these things to anyone that would follow after him to foster that relationship to tune their hearing to his voice, and as he will, we've had a great thing going this way, but which is more important to you?

Staying in that good thing or following me into a new thing? Now let's look at the two people that that came to him. You'll see here in verse 19, then one of the teachers of religious law came to him and said, teacher, I will follow you wherever you go. Is that a is that a good thing that a teacher of religious law said that? Yeah.

Would Jesus have loved to have seen more of the Pharisees follow after him? Absolutely. I mean, they had they had Israel's heart. They were the leading voice of influence to Israel. Imagine if all of the Pharisees, Sadducees, religious leaders were like, this is the Messiah.

I think it might have gone pretty well, and it would have gone very differently for Jesus. So here we have a Pharisee, a teacher of religious law coming to Jesus and saying those magic words. Jesus, I will follow you. And how would we want Jesus to have responded? Just say it.

Yippee. Come on. Let's go. So glad you're here. The more the merrier.

We could think of a 100 things that Jesus should have said, but instead, you gotta go and be like that. What does he say? I'll follow you wherever you go. Verse 20. But Jesus replied, foxes have dens to live in, birds have nests, but the son of man has no place even to lay his head.

Here's what Jesus is is getting. It's there is there is in that day and age, most rabbis or teachers of religious law, as they grew in popularity, they would establish a synagogue. They would establish a a teaching school. People would come from all over and sit under that rabbi's teaching. They would become sedentary in a way.

They would be stuck in one place, and people would come and and see them. Here's what Jesus was saying. He's like, I'm not building that. The thing that you are wanting from me, that's not how we're going to do this. You can always approach Jesus, but the relationship just because he's Jesus will always be on his terms.

Now the bad news is it will always be on his terms. The good news is his terms are always the best. And so Jesus was saying to this see, he didn't tell him, no, that you can't follow me. He was helping him to cost of what it really means to follow him. So at first, you would think, oh, Jesus would get canceled for that.

Here's a Pharisee wanting to come follow him, and then Jesus goes and throws down that that like, hey, we're gonna be on the move. Like, wow, Jesus, why did you have to say that? But notice what Jesus didn't say. He didn't say, no, you can't follow me. Jesus didn't say, no, you're you're you're a hypocrite.

He didn't say any of those things. He just said, let me help you cut the cost, bro. And what can we reasonably assume that that Pharisee did? Yeah. He was like, cost is too steep.

Darn it. And then he was out. We have no other recorded instance of of that person. We don't know the whole story, but there's no recorded instance that then the Pharisee turned around. And then right on the heels of that, who's the next person that speaks up?

Another, verse 21, another one of his disciples says, Lord, 21, Lord, let me first return home and bury my father. But Jesus told him, follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead. Notice the two different people and how they address Jesus. The first person says teacher, and that was an admission of like, there's there's something on your life.

They're like like, alright. I'll give you some credit. But then the next person, what does he address Jesus as? What does he say? Yeah, Lord.

A big difference. So this disciple perhaps had been following Jesus or believed in Jesus. And he says, first, let me go bury my father. On the surface, that's not very sensitive of Jesus when a person has either what the text on a surface level reads having just lost his father. Now, in order to get the most out of the text, it's important to have a second temple Jewish mindset, meaning a contemporary of Jesus in that day and age mindset.

When he says, first, let me bury my father, there is a a spectrum of what could have been going on in that man's life that is more broad than what we think of. Here in our day and age, when a person passes away, it's all very sanitized for us. Underestingly so. Maybe they are in a hospital. Maybe it's tragically, but but things are very sanitized for for us.

We're much more civilized and and modern than that. But in Jesus's day and age, it was a little bit different. For us when a person passes away, we want to have their remains dealt with as quickly as possible. But in Jesus' days, the body perhaps would have remained in the house for several days. Then once the body was prepared for burial, the the body would go into a tomb, and it would sit there, lay there for, I don't know how long a period of time, until they would come back and it was just bones.

Then the bones would be collected and put into a bone box or an ossuary, and then the box of, like, usually, like, made out of marble, a stone box would then be slid into a slot in the family's burial plot where with all of their uncles and relatives and cousins and nieces and nephews and grandchildren and things like their grandparents and things like that. And so when he said, let me bury my father, he could have that young man, that man could have said, well, my dad has passed away, but I gotta wait until I get the bones back. That could be a year or more. When you look closely at the text, some scholars think that there is a chance that the father was dying and hadn't even passed away yet. There is if you look at the original language in the Greek, there is room for all kinds of things.

Basically basically, what the man was doing was hey. Hey. I really want to follow you, and I'll even call you lord, but I got this other thing that I'm kind of in the middle of. As soon as I tie a bow on this thing that I'm doing, then I will come and follow you. And how well does that sit with Jesus?

Yeah. Yeah. So he wasn't being rude. He was saying, Jesus, you are a priority. You're just not the highest priority.

And with both of these things, if you wanted to write down the bottom line as we wrap up here, it's this. While on the surface, the things that Jesus said might get him canceled, and we would say today, Jesus, you can't say that because you're not being very sensitive. Know this, Jesus cares more about your transformation than he does your comfort. Jesus cares more about your transformation than he does your comfort. So that man who was trying to say the right things, but Jesus because he's Jesus, man, he just knew.

He just knew that in essence, the man that was like, oh, let me first bury my father. It was a smokescreen. And so with Jesus being more concerned about our transformation than our comfort, the opportunity that we park with the few minutes that we have left is to consider, are there any smoke screens that you have up in front of Jesus today? Your mouth says, Jesus. Jesus, I'll follow you anywhere, and I'm part of the crowds, and you're you're casting out demons, and you're healing the sick, and this is amazing, and I'll even call you Lord.

I'll call you Lord with my mouth, but the actions of my life right now are speaking louder than the words of my mouth. That's why Jesus says, let the dead bury the dead. What you could be pursuing or placing as a higher priority of Jesus no matter how noble, no matter how valuable you think it is, if it comes at the expense of being obedient to him, it ain't worth it. And that is what got him canceled back then. That's what is challenging for us today and what would get him canceled today in our own life, in our own heart because we think we have the rest of the world fooled.

We might even have ourselves fooled with saying things, but there is a secret, ulterior priority and motive in our heart. Jesus sees right through that. And there's still the invitation come follow me, but we gotta have those other priorities be subservient to the highest priority of following him. So let's take a little bit of time and let's ask the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, would there be anything in my life or in my heart that I'm trying to like talk a good game that sounds important and valuable?

Well, you know, life is just so busy right now. Oh, work is crushing me. Oh, the I have a baby. Oh, I have a toddler. Oh, I have a teenager.

Like, there's only so few weeks and, I'm only like three quarter of the way done with my summer hit list. There is nothing more important than actually following him. As Ian says, when he says it's time to boogie, okay, boss. So holy spirit, just come speak to us for just a moment. And a brave prayer to pray is, Holy Spirit, is there anything in my life currently in this moment that you want to put your finger on that I'm placing of a higher priority than you?

Even if it's a good, right, true, noble thing. And if he points something out to you, he's not looking for you to make some sort of grand proclamation. I think a prayer that he would really respond well to is, ugh, you're right. Jesus, help me. So let's let's let's just invite him to speak to us for just a few moments, and then we'll wind down the service.

Would you just tell him? Just tell him. Let's sing it together. Part. Why don't we stand together?

Let's stay standing and let's pull the last few elements of service together this morning and conclude with prayer which involves worshiping the Lord by bringing our tithes and offerings to him, right by those delicious donuts and yummy snacks. There is an opportunity if you have cash or check, you can drop that there for your tithes and offerings. More and more people are scanning that QR code that will take you to the website where you can give that way. And what's nice about that is you can decide where you would like your tithe to go, tithes. But then if you have an offering, you can select from a drop down menu, for example, the IDF soldiers that are coming into town, how we're receiving an offering for them to pay for groceries that will go to prepare meals for them while they're here, Tribes Next Home and other, funds like that.

So scan that QR code for the tithe, and I'll pray over the tithe and offering in just a moment. And I will pray over us as a tribe fam to tie a bow on this season here at the park, prepare our hearts for where we'll be next week, and I'll pray a blessing over us. Can he do all of that in one prayer?

Also, I think it's appropriate to share. During service, we got an all cash offer on the TMC. What?

Oh, yeah. They cheered.

I was like, though. Alright. Alright. That's a little better. Don't worry.

Okay. I was gonna just said it before. So

Yeah. Would you would you do this? You would you take a moment and make sure you're slid into somebody near you so that you can put a hand on their shoulder? And let's put a hand on people's shoulders. Like, let's be like a family for a second.

This is your moment. And here we are in the park as a family, holding hands, touching shoulders as a family. We're gonna be a family when we say amen. We're gonna be a family when we're done. We're gonna be a family as we go to first b, but let's just take a moment and have the Holy Spirit just put his hand on our shoulder.

Jesus, we love you. Thank you for your work here in Jackson Hole called Tribe in creating this family that we get to be a part of. Thank you for family. Thank you, Jesus, that while at times as though it feels as if you're stepping on our toes and we want to cancel you, we know that your ways are best. Father, we pray for the person to our right and to our left that you would bless them.

Father, we pray over the tithes and offerings, the portion of finances that people to our right and to our left are giving to local church called tribe. Lord, bless them in their financial giving. Father, we pray for our tribe fam as we tie a silk bow on outdoor August 2026 and set it up on the shelf. And Lord, prepare our hearts for September 6 when we will be meeting next week at 5PM at First B. God, we pray that our tribe fam would be a blessing to our first b friends and family.

God, we pray that that we would be able to meet with you in such a great way that it would draw and attract new families that need to hear about you, Lord. And God, we pray for the offer that just came in today while we were at church. Come on, Lord. You tell us what you want us to do with that offer. How amazing would that be?

And then lastly, I command a blessing over each and every person here. Whether you have been ride or die with tribe since day one or this Sunday is your very first Sunday. Lord, will you bless each and every person that's here and all of our families that are watching by livestream. Lord, give us a great week. Help build our anticipation for finding a new home next week as this week you tell us to what Ian?
