Whatever would keep you from just worshiping freely or entering in, you just press through, press through, and worship. Lord, just we ask that you come and fall afresh on us today. Come and just in a new way. Whatever happened yesterday, even whatever happened this morning is already ashes. You call us to seek you fresh. Spirit, come. Spirit, come. Change us. We give you permission. Yes. As we repent of our sin this morning, search our hearts. Search our hearts. Oh, we just sing in the name of Jesus, the powerful name of Jesus. Send your spirit in a mighty way. Oh, we just lift up your name. We just remember who you are, who it is that we're singing to, who we're asking to come and touch us today. The one that buried death, hell, and the grave could not even hold down. Jesus. Yes, Lord. We worship you. Oh, we just welcome you in this place today. And as you come and you speak to us today, we know that you do. You love to come and speak to your church, speak to your bride. Maybe even during worship, you're coming and you're speaking through some pictures and words and sometimes you love to speak that way so we just leave some time. We just say right now, Holy Spirit, speak to us and if there's something that the Lord's putting on your heart, a scripture, an encouragement, a dream, a picture, whatever it might be, I just encourage you to share. Maybe it's for someone else in this room. Maybe it's just to lift the name of Jesus higher and higher to exalt him. I just encourage you to just the of to part the for the first ministry. Time. It just made me think about the next step. Every day is new, and I I heard a a a very unique Billy Graham response to somebody asking about why there was so much evil in the world with with Christ. And I was like and so Billy Billy Graham's response was, well, why are there so many dirty people? I said, we've got so much soap. He said, Christianity is like soap. He said, it has to be applied daily. And I just I just think that was so profound that, you know, we don't need to to wait till Sunday. We need to live it, wear it, be a part of it every day. And the one thing I will say that I've noticed recently, and I just this is a warning. There are a lot of prominent preachers, people that are out in front that are compromising the word of god. Be careful. Stand on God's word. Stand on what's true. Stand fast. Okay. My turn. It's the Erwin hour. Okay. We need to make a slide that says that. Is it Yeah. For the livestream. I know. This last Tuesday, after work, driving home, going through the canyon, and my worst fear happened. I'm right at the elbow ramp, and I'm I see this movement on the side. And I'm like, what is that? I was in the middle of a slide. That avalanche that closed the canyon for two hours, it was hitting my car. And I'm in I'm in the middle of it, and I'm thinking, oh, god. What do I do? And the reason I'm I'm telling you this, I'm always everybody says, oh, the Holy Spirit said to do this or and I'm like, I wanna hear the Holy Spirit talk to me. I wanna hear it. And I'm thinking, you know, it's like he's gotta be in the car and go, Nancy, look at me. That's not how it works. Because when I'm in the middle of that moment where I was freaking out, something the Holy Spirit said, gun it. And I just floored it. And right behind my car, it covered the entire road, and it would have easily rolled my car right over into the river. Because if you look at that slide now, we come through it, and I'm like, oh my god. It was big. I flew. I drove 80 miles an hour the rest of the way. I knew nobody was behind me. You know? Did the holy spirit say stop gunning it now? No. No. He did not. But I flew into and then I called it in, you know, 911, did all that. And it was afterwards, it was like, that's the Holy Spirit. We don't realize when we we're trying to make it so complicated and so big, and that little whisper of whether it's gun it, stop, say something, help that person, we've gotta listen. And I hate that it took an avalanche for me to hear the Holy Spirit talk to me, but it's real. And now every time I'm driving by that, I'm saying thank you, Jesus. So just listen because the smallest thing can be him talking to you. That's right. There you go. That's good. Lee, you got some? Yeah. My sister, what's coming to my mind is grace, And I've heard it said that grace is a steady current of divine power and divine empowerment. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you for that word. Thank you, Lord. And, Lord, in the natural, I I gotta say, Lord, you you rewrote my story. You rewrote wrote my wife's story, and you have rewritten or in the process of rewriting our story, tribe's story. Mhmm. Thank you, God. Yes. Thank you, Jesus. And Lord, in the natural, we occupy, we do business as usual like you said, but we live in the anointing of the spiritual. So Lord that, to me, that that sounds that sounds good. Those are those are neat words, Lord. But holy spirit, teach us how to live in the anointing of the spiritual every day, every day. And so we choose this morning to step into that divine empowerment that that you just told us about. Lord, we bless your name. Thank you for rewriting our story. Continue, Lord, day by day to add an addendum to our story. And Lord, like you told us couple weeks ago, those white sandstone steps, stairs that very gradually lead up, that we won't take our shoes off and be barefooted and just talk and stay at one level. But holy spirit that by your urging, by your power, you will move us forward, up, higher and higher and higher. And as we're moving, Lord, that we will impact the people, we'll impact the culture, we'll impact the society, the systems in our society around us, in our community, in our towns, wherever it is that we live. Lord, the truth is apart from you, there's nothing. There is no life. You are our life. You are the foundation. You are our rampart. You are. Your life is in the air that we breathe. Yeah. That we breathe deeply, deeply of your life this morning, Jesus. We praise your name. We worship you. Amen. Amen. Yes. Else? So goodly. Thank you. Yeah. So and I'm gonna if well, I'm I'm gonna go do a little outreach this afternoon, probably after the meal. Real simple stuff, just walking around the square, I think, and just I think I would call it intentional availability to the spirit of God and just walk around eyes open, spirit sensitive and say, Lord, whatever you might wanna do for the next hour, just for like an hour, we're here Super. And see what happens. I've done it a lot in the past. There's times where nothing happens but there are a few times where some beautiful things happen. Beautiful God things happen. So let me know when we're all done. And then just a quick encouragement, I was reading and I feel like, yeah, the Lord's like, yeah, just share this. Exodus 34 verses one and two. And it's Moses' second time up the mountain, underline his second time up the mountain with a fresh set of two tablets because he got really mad the first time at the people of Israel and he threw them down and broke them. And I was reading it and I'm like, oh gosh, this is his second time up the mountain. And the Lord's talking to Moses and he says, yeah, come on up the mountain, da da da da da, and bring those tablets quote unquote. This is the Lord talking to Moses. Those tablets that you shattered. And the word shattered really kinda highlighted to me for a second. And, yeah, this was for me first, but, yeah, for anyone who might need it. I felt like the Lord said, Isaiah, you know, I'm the God of second chances. Like, I love to redeem, and I love to rebuild. There's a promise in Jeremiah where God says, I will rebuild you, Israel, Judah, like, I will rebuild you. Meaning, you've made a mess of things. But that word shattered, like Isaiah, I can rebuild shattered places in your life. And maybe it's not your whole life that's shattered, but maybe it is. You know? Maybe your your life gets to this point to where you feel like the whole thing is quote unquote shattered, God says, hey, come up the mountain again. Bring your life to me again and let's rebuild. But, yeah, if it's not your whole life, just be encouraged if there's one area because I've got them in my life that feels shattered, hopeless, like this can't be rebuilt. This is in pieces on the ground. Just hear papa say to you that he can take those and he can rebuild and I'm believing that for my own life with you. Amen? So father help help us to bring our lives to you and the shattered places where maybe that's really what they are. And we thank you and we believe as a family and as your sons and daughters that you are a rebuilder and you can do things that we can't. And you just have that power and that ability. Thank you, papa. Oh, Lord, we just pray you come and meet every need in this place today. Whether there's areas of our life that are shattered or far from you, Lord, come and meet us. And when I sing that, I just think, you know, I always wanna be careful that we always sing what is biblically true. And when I sing that, come down spirit, when you move, you make my heart pound. And there would be this assumption that if my heart isn't racing, the Lord isn't moving. Like if I hurt, but I think of it as like, he makes even my heartbeat. And yes, sometimes I feel tangibly feel his presence. Sometimes my heart does raise to say something. Sometimes I do have a physical response to his presence and sometimes I don't. And he's still moving and he's still working. And so I just always say that when we sing this song because I didn't do this song for a while because of that line. Because I was like, don't want people to think, well, my heart isn't pounding, the Lord isn't moving. And that's just not true. Can it? Yes. Of course it can. So when I just sing that I think, Holy Spirit, come and move. You even make my heart beat. Like everything is from you. So Lord, come as we dig into your word today and as we finish this series, maybe. We'll see. Maybe there's more. I don't know. I'm just saying. I'm leaving it open. I think we we said we have a betting pool now for what week it's gonna end. How many weeks? It's so good. Turn your cat around. Lord, we just ask today, speak to our hearts where we think that we know that we know. But then you just come and you're like, let me deal with that thing. We give you permission today. Show us areas that we need to get our heart right and turn our cat around because you are good and your ways are good and they are perfect. We give you all the glory in this space. I thank you for every heart, every precious person in this room gathered today. Meet us in Jesus' name. We just pray for those precious kids downstairs too. Oh, your spirit is just longs to meet them and just in their worship and in their time that they dig in learning about you. Come and just speak through Carla and speak through the leaders and just change their hearts. Give them a passionate love for you and for your Holy Spirit to hear your voice and to obey it even at this very young age. In Jesus name, amen. Fill your coffee, get out your Bible, and we'll get started in one minute. Could I get a little bit It's it's getting in it's getting in your bones. Good. Good. Alright. Okay. So I have a question for you. What is the significance what is the significance of the following numbers? Twelve, two hundred, 600, and 16. They were on your fortunes. Not not on my fortune cookie. Not the dharma code. Yes. 12 206And16. Alright. Over 12 gallons of coffee were guzzled last week at Easter service. Over 200 feet of extension cords run for power for their simple little stage. Thank you. Over 600 pounds of sand were put down on our icy little tent floor to keep us from slipping, and 16 people made a public profession of faith. And if you count the Tuesday before, there were four people. So in the last two weeks, over 20 people making a public profession of faith right here at the TMC in our icy little floor for Easter Easter service. So how good is that? Praise the lord. We've been camped out in turn the cat around series for just a few weeks. And if your hearts weren't so hard and your head so stubborn, we could have moved on by now, but it's really you, not me. If haven't been with us for a while, if you're not familiar with that phrase, there was a church in Tulsa that Joy and her family, Amanda and her family, were a part of. And we were on staff at a different church, but we would sneak over to this church whenever we could. And that pastor would say frequently, Hey, if this rubs your fur the wrong way, turn your cat around. Meaning, there are truths that are in the Bible that are inconvenient and incongruent with how we are currently living our lives. When we bump up against those truths or principles or precepts, it rubs our fur the wrong way. We don't like to hear that. We don't like to be confronted with God's nature and character when it's in contradiction to how we are believing or how we are living. Want to And so the idea is God pets only one way. And if you want to be petted the right way and have it feel good, you have to turn your cat around. There are areas of all of our lives that need to come into conformity and under the leadership and under the sanctification of Jesus. And when that happens, it's wonderful and great. The Bible says, you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free, but the fine print is, but until it does, you'll be miserable. Right? We've all encountered God's truth where we're like, and we'd wrestle with it. And then and then we submit and surrender to it, it's so good. The Bible says it's so much better to fall on the rock and be broken than for that rock to fall on you and squash you flat as a bug. That that's in the Bible. And so we've been we've been on this subject for a number of weeks now, And the way that we like to do church here at Tribe, our format of service, we've got people that tune into our livestream, and they're watching in Jackson and across Wyoming and different places around The United States and maybe even around the world. And we want the format of service here to be less about a monologue and more about a dialogue, where we can interact with one another and together we can interact with the text. And the way that that looks is I love it when you have questions, comments, connections, or things that you're seeing in the text that we can interact with it together. Does that make sense? And whenever that happens, I know that what you want to do is to just, Hayden, like, throw your hand up and ask a question, but hold on just a second. We'll make sure that the mic gets to you so that your question or he doesn't actually have one, but He's thinking one. Yeah. He's thinking. Alright. Gear it up so that if there's something that you want to contribute to the service, we'll get the mic to you so that our Livestream families can see it. Okay? With that in mind, let's turn to the Book of Revelation. The book of Revelation. While you're turning now, want to give you just a little bit of preface of why the impetus, if you will, of starting this series when we have because on our leadership team, we've been talking about doing this series for for, like, maybe more than a year now. And here we are, week seven in this series. And I feel like it's really important because as we're gearing up for this series, I feel like the Holy Spirit whispered to my heart. He didn't say gun it. But what he did say what I feel like he did say is, in the days ahead, the leadership of Jesus will become more simple but more costly. In the days ahead, the leadership of Jesus will be more simple to hear and to follow and to discern, but to actually walk in obedience to his simple truth and his simple instructions will cost more. So the idea is I don't know anything about investments and money, the basic idea is buy low and sell high. Well, right now, we get in at the basement bargain price level of obedience. We we learn obedience now, so that in the days ahead, as the cost of obedience increases, we are already rich and have a rich heritage and culture and history of trusting the Lord when we can obey him. Cool. You don't wanna scramble when the market crashes? You try to buy oil? Proverb Matthew 25. That's that's the story of Matthew 25. The the 10 wise and the 10 the 10 the five wise and the five foolish virgins, they all had lamps. They were all waiting for the return of the bridegroom. And when he finally did arrive, five of the wise virgins had enough oil to light their lamps and go in with the wedding procession. Others were like, whoop, we're out of oil. For you Southerners. And they went to the market to try to buy oil, but it was too late. In the days the days ahead, the leadership of Jesus will become more simple but more costly. And so I told you to turn to the book of Revelation, and we're going to read several different places in the first couple of chapters of Revelation. And we're looking at Jesus' letters to the churches that are now in modern day Turkey. He goes around and he hits kind of in a clockwise fashion these seven different churches. We're to just touch on a few of these churches and the words that Jesus has for them. As we read these different passages, what I want you to be looking for is that invitation of Jesus as he speaks to the church for the church to turn their cat around. Alright? So would you put up the slide with all those numbers? Now don't go cross eyed. Don't go cross eyed. Just take it one little piece at a time. For example, we're going to start in Revelation chapter one. We're going to read verse 12 through 20. Straightforward. Makes sense. Then we're going to go to chapter two, and we'll just read verses one through five. So if you're looking at all these numbers, don't go cross eyed. This is not like a Sudoku code to figure out or anything. We'll just we'll get there. Alright? With that in mind, would somebody take the first passage and read some of it or all of it, and then we'll continue on? And I want us to read all of these passages before we continue to talk about them, so you can kind of keep them spun up in your brain. Here we go. My turn to see. Here comes the Mike Lee. Ella, quick with the mic. Ella. I'll wait. And before you read, so so this is Ella. She's married to Connor. How about Connor on worship this morning? Hey. Hey, Connor. So so good. I love to I love the the the set that you guys have put together. I love the songs that you brought to the set. I love your heart for worship, and I love that that you get to bring some of your youthfulness to kind of, like, the the old crusty Sunday morning service because normally Conner and Ella are part of our Tuesday evening service. Not me, but them. And so I love I love, what you brought today and what all of our young adults bring to either the Sunday morning or the Tuesday evening service. So we love you guys. Okay. With that, we will continue on. When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands and standing in the middle of the lampstands was the son of man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were bright like flames of fire. His feet were as bright as bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two edged sword came from his mouth, and his face was as bright as the sun in all its brilliance. That's good. On to 20. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, don't be afraid. I am the first and the last. I am the living one. I died, but look, I am alive forever and ever. And I hold the keys of death and the grave. Write down what you have seen, both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen. This is the meaning of the mystery of the seven stars you saw in my right hand and the seven gold lampstands. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. Alright. Before we go to chapter two, I want to make just one one comment about that and ask you a few questions. When we get to read the words of John who saw Jesus, when he first sees Jesus, what is Jesus doing? You can just say it, and then I'll repeat it in the mic. What do we see what do we see Jesus doing? Standing. He's standing where? In the In the middle of the lampstands. So do you picture this being dynamic or static? Jesus. Static. Yes. So the idea, if you look at the you look at the text, I see him standing either in the middle or in the midst of the seven lampstands. It looks as though it appears as though he's standing still. But when you continue to read in the text and you see how John describes how Jesus is dressed, it helps give you a clue as to what he's doing. Is he, like, frozen? Or is he, like, doing something? It's not in the text, but we can get a clue of what he's doing when we see how Jesus is dressed. When John sees Jesus, the hair white as wool, eyes that burn like fire, a gold sash across his chest. And then how are his feet described? Like like burnished or highly polished bronze. Why is Jesus barefoot? Jesus and you've heard me say this before Jesus is barefoot, which is why John is able to describe his feet, because, in the Old Testament, the priests who ministered in the temple, all of them were barefoot. They all had a uniform to wear, but in the uniform, it did not include footwear. Not sandals, not boots, not flip flops. Barefoot. And historically, in the first and the second temple, in Jesus' day when he was going in and around the temple, you could identify the priests not only because of their special garb, but rain or shine, sun or snow, the priests were always barefoot. It's beautiful. It's hard, it's harsh, but it's this idea of maintaining an intimate connection with the temple in the presence and the life of God. The priest's job were to maintain the temple and to minister to the Lord on behalf of the people. When we see John describe Jesus as being barefoot, somebody who's familiar with the wardrobe of the priest would go, Ah ah ah! There it is! Jesus is pictured as a priest. So, though it says he's standing there, he's in the midst of these seven lampstands. He is going about his priestly, high priestly duties of tending the lampstands. Say that again for the rest of us. The lampstands represent the churches, the seven churches in Asia, these specific churches that he's talking about. So we see Jesus standing there, but he's in the midst. He's in and among, walking, tending the lamps. When you read this again, the picture that I want you to get is of Jesus moving in and among the lamps. He's not just standing there like he's gonna get his picture taken. And he goes over to the lampstand of the church of Smyrna, and he's trimming the wicks, he's adding the oil. Then he goes over, and he closely inspects the lamp of Thyatira or the the church in Ephesus, and he's looking and he's tending. So when it says that he's standing in and among the lampstands, he's actively engaged in caring for and nurturing in the same way that you tend a wick on a lantern. If you've ever had one of those old Coleman lanterns where you trim the wick or you can brighten it or you can turn it off, You've got to replace that little incandescent, like, little bulb sack thing that lights up, or if you've ever had a kerosene lantern, it takes some tending. It takes some work. That's what Jesus is doing in this picture. So, yes, he's standing there, but he's not just standing there. He's actively involved. Clay, do you have some or do wanna read next? I'm ready to read. Alright. Chapter two verses one through five. To the angel of the church in Ephesus write, the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden light lampstands. Well, there we have it. He's walking among them, tending them. Go for it. I know your works, your toil, and your patient patient endurance, and how you cannot bear those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not and found them to be false. I know you are enduring enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. But I have this against you that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen, repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from this place unless you repent. So this is the church where? Ephesus. Ephesus. And where do we see the invitation of Jesus for the church of Ephesus to turn its cat around? In verse five. There we go. Look how far you've fallen. Turn back to me. So look for in each one of these passages, look for the invitation that Jesus gives to the church to turn your cat around. Here's where you're headed, and here's how I invite you to turn your cat around. Alright. How about the next passage? We're up to verse same chapter, verse 12. 12 through 16. I'll always be the one if no one Let's see. Okay. Chapter verse 12, the message to the church of Pergamum. Sure. Pergamum. Yep. Write this letter to the angel of the church of Pergamum. This is the message from the one with the sharp two edged sword. I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan's city. Jeez. I live there. It's Las Vegas. But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. In a similar way, you have some God, I picked all the good ones. Nickelodeon. Nickelodeons? Nicolaitans. Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching. Repent of your sin or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth. Okay. Again, we see an invitation that Jesus gives to the church to turn their cat around. Let's continue. We're still in chapter two eighteen through 20. Write this letter to the angel of the church of Thyatira. This is the message from the son of God whose eyes are like flames of fire, whose feet are like polished bronze. I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all of these things. But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman, that Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet, to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols. Now we finally make it to chapter three. So once again, we can see, and and hopefully this is driving home the point of Jesus being genuine, honest, and true as any good feedback should include. Here's what I see that you've done well, that you are doing well, and here is how you can improve. Chapter three verse one through three. To the angel of the church in Sardis, write, these are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds. You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up. Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard. Hold it fast and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. If you do not wake up, I will come to you suddenly as unexpected as a thief. So there is consequences for failure to turn your cat around. For the sake of our conversation, we can say loss to great loss. You can expect, as a result of failing, to turn your cat around. We're 14 through twenty two. That's the last one. Right? Yep. Okay. Okay. And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write the words of the amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation. I know your works are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold nor hot? So because you are lukewarm and neither hot or cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fine refined by fire so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve anoint your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline. So be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne as I also conquered and sat with my father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the spirit says to the churches. A real feel good message conversation we're having today. I want us to zoom in on chapter three, looking at verses 15 through 22. Considering the passages that we just read, how about thoughts or reactions or maybe even questions that you have to the text that we just read, or maybe an observation? Joy has her hand up. I was just struck with how many of the churches looked so good on the outside. Like, I see your works. I see the good things. I see you've got a reputation for being alive. And it's got all of these positive things that we would think looking with our eyes, that church is doing pretty good. Maybe Laodicea is the only exception. But how quickly we can get so caught up in, well, I'm doing this and I'm doing that. And so, I'm good. On the outside, it looks good, but that's doesn't that's not what matters. The appearance, we can't fool him. Other thoughts, observations that you see or questions that you have about the text? Yeah. One thing that was encouraging to me in chapter three, the first part of it, he's saying, man, these you guys are gonna get it, so to speak. But verse four, yet even in Sardis, there are some who have not soiled their garments with evil deeds. They will walk yada yada yada. They're worthy. All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the book of life. The reason that stood out to me is because of all the chaos that's going on in the world that we live in. It's like, amen. You know, those of us that hold fast, we'll make it through. Help us. Help us hold fast. Help us hold fast. What stands out to me is that you cannot hide from God. The darkness will never hide you from the light of God. And yet we continue to try to get in the shadows and think we're pulling something over on God, and we're not. He is he is he sees everything and, we just need to be more aware of that. Here. Here. Erwin Els. And he also puts it right there in black and white for us to read it. You can't be that gray matter. I remember Clay was saying when he was at Ole Miss, sometimes and here he was president of Fellowship Christian Athletes there. But sometimes you would be drawn on one side of the fence or other, and and you can't be on both. And you've got to make a conscious choice of what you're gonna do. And God knows it's not popular sometimes and you will lose friends and your social life may change but you've got to choose what's most important. It will be costly. It will be costly, but not in the end. Mhmm. I've got this little note I took in in that last section that says water can change temperatures because it's talking about being hot or cold. And I was just thinking about what Nancy said about hearing the voice of the holy spirit and having a a spiritual thermometer to gauge how hot or cold you are and how it's it's so important to have at least one, a recognition yourself through the holy spirit. Two, someone that can let you know if you're cooling off spiritually and having someone that can speak into your life. And then I think another part, Nancy, about what you said is, hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit, but then also being obedient to it and and not necessarily questioning it right away. Whether that's Always have to have snow piling down on you. Yeah. Exactly. So that's just an observation I had about about that because you can get cooler from being hot as far as your relationship with the Lord. But if you have someone to snap you out of it and and wake you up from cooling down, I think that's important to be able to have that recognition. Mhmm. It's good, Chris. I was just gonna share a quick anecdote for what it's worth. On the other day at Orangetheory, someone said, and this is about just like how the world I think we all want it to be based on the outside, like Joy was saying, because that's something we can control, you know, like what it looks like on the outside. But I think every human heart knows that there's something more than that. Like, when you are alone with yourself, it's like, what's happening inside? And anyway, someone said, we were getting ready for the workout and someone said, the coach said, what are what's God's favorite muscles? And someone and someone shouted, Back and Abs? Because those are the ones people hate to work the most, but they're God's favorite muscles? And it was really funny because, like, they were, like, using, like, the Lord's name and it was like this, you know, was light hearted and funny or whatever. And something was, like, stirring in me through the whole workout and at the end while we were stretching, while everyone's listening to each other, you know, it came up again and I was like, here it comes. And I said, God's favorite muscle is actually the heart because that's the one he cares about the most. No. And it was like silence and like And the coach is like, oh, and I thought, you know what? Just that simple, like, little moment of truth, it was like the Holy Spirit I don't know. It was just interesting, but I'm not this isn't a brag on Lissa thing. It's like when you just speak the truth into an environment, it's convicting. It's convicting for me. Like, you know, that that's what the Lord cares about is our heart. You know, what's going on really inside thinking of these churches. Like, he knows. He knows. You can't hide from him. Yeah. There's a verse that that Amanda will look up to confirm for me. Psalms, maybe it's Psalms. Like, the Lord does not take delight in the legs of a man or the strength of the horse, but his delight he delights he delights in the heart of the man that fears him. Oh, okay. Joy's gonna help you out. Bible, fear, delight, legs of the man, strength of the horse. 111. What is it? 14710And11. Alright. Read it for us so that it can be correct. Okay. It's in King James. Here we go. Oh, No. It switched to my phone. Hold on. Talk amongst yourselves. One second. Okay. He takes no pleasure in the strength of a horse or in human might. Know the Lord's delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love. Mhmm. What scripture is that? Psalm one forty seven ten through 11. Psalms one forty seven. It's a good one. Revelation chapter three fifteen through 20. We see a great picture of how this church's cat is facing with several you think statements. Revelation chapter three verse 15 through 20, you think you don't need a thing. You think you have everything you want. Jesus accurately says, Hey, here's how your cat is facing. But then he goes on to say, But what you don't realize, That would be someday a a great series of conversations for us to have, different times when people realized and when they didn't realize what was going on. Lord, let us be a group of people, a community of people who always realize what you're up to and what's going on in the times and seasons. But then he says this brutally, painfully honest, but you don't realize. And then he says, here's your actual condition. You're wretched. You're miserable. You're poor. You're blind. And you're naked. Naked. In Alabama. Do any of you ever have stress dreams where maybe you're back in high school and you're late for a test or something and you look down and you're like, once again, I forgot to get dressed for the day. Anybody have naked stress dreams? All right, so just three are like, what am I panting? You've Winnie Poohed yourself, and you've gone to work without panting? It's an interesting dream. Do not try to psychoanalyze me. But you don't realize that this is the condition. And so we could stop there. And for many weeks, we kind of have stopped there, and the invitation has been, turn your cat around. What would the Holy Spirit bring up in your heart right now that he would convict you of, that he would just put his finger on and say, hey, this one little area. We're not talking big, broad brush strokes of, like, you gotta change, like, your hair color, like, something huge and I'll never be able to well, for some of us. But but the Holy Spirit is so great, and and he he he puts his finger on one or or two areas. Over the course of the seven weeks that we've been having this conversation, without naming the thing, how many of you would say, you know what? I feel like the Holy Spirit has put a finger on this one little area of my life, either several times or maybe it's been one finger on several different areas that I needed to turn my cat around. Yes. Okay. So awesome. Now in weeks past, what we would have done is been like, hey, what's one area that the Holy Spirit is speaking to you about that you need to turn your cat around? And I would give Lissy the look, and she would come up, and we would play. And we will do that, but not yet. But here's what I want us to begin to kind of turn the corner on this series, and I want us to look at the goodness of Jesus when he is brutally honest and points out areas in our life where we need to turn our cat around. Because he says, But you don't realize you're wretched, you're miserable, you're poor, you're blind, and you're naked. He doesn't stop there, and this is the difference between Jesus and religion. Religion just says you're wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. The best you can do is find some really good looking fig leaves and sew them up. That's what religion would say. Like, you're awful. Figure it out and try to be better. But here is how my Jesus is different. Look at verse 18. Three eighteen. So I counsel you. Or some translations, but I advise you. Does anybody's translation say something different, those first couple of words? I counsel you. I advise you. What translation do you read from? What does it say? I'll I'll repeat it in the mic. You don't need the mic. ESV says I counsel you. I counsel you. Advise you. Somebody else's translation? Revelation three eighteen. I counsel you or advise you. This is the goodness of Jesus coming out. He says, look. Let's be brutally honest about your current condition. I'm not going to gloss over it. I'm not going to dismiss it. I'm not going to sweep it under the carpet. We're going to call it like it is. Now, together, let's fix it. This is how good he is. I counsel you. Now, it may be a little bit tricky to see his goodness in the following lines. I counsel you to buy gold from me, gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also, buy white garments from me so that you will not be ashamed of your nakedness and ointment for your eyes that you will be able to see. Now You ready? Sure. Okay. Come on. You know, as we all know, cats are not always the friendliest people or animals, right? So therefore, yeah, therefore, when you pet them the wrong way, what might happen sometimes? Well, they're scratchy. You get slapped. Yes. The same way, he says he's gonna discipline us. You know, if we're we're lukewarm, we're not we're neither hot nor cold. We're lukewarm. Well and we have friends that don't believe God disciplines you. That they say, you know, how can a loving father do that? Well, I love my son more than anybody on this earth, but I tore his tail up when he was wrong. You know? So just like that cat's gonna slap you, God disciplines us in his way. In his way. And we need to be aware of that and realize that sometimes when things happen, it's him taking care of us. Mhmm. Mhmm. I counsel you to buy gold. Now, if we were to think in terms of monetary cost, and he created the analogy because he said, I counsel you, buy from me. Okay, so there's this exchange that he's inviting us to. Gold that has been refined in fire, garments that are white, and then ointment for your eyes. Pure gold. How expensive is that? Imagine clothes that actually impart righteousness. And we're not talking about, like, like, gore tex or something, something way more costly and valuable that actually imparts righteousness, and then a medication that can be applied to a person's eyes that would cause a blind person to be able to see. How much would all of those things cost? Exactly. Idea is it's priceless. How can we, who are wretched, miserable, naked, poor, and blind, ever be able to afford those things? And I believe that Jesus is trying to get at something here. Here's your current condition way down here, and if you want to not have your lamp stand snuffed out, here's how to do it, and it's the goodness of Jesus, but the solution is so far up here. How do do that? What were you gonna say? Yeah, love that this is basically saying, like, you can't do it on your own. You can't. And then I wrote my own little note from verse 18 advising to buy gold from him. It's not just because he wants you to be in his pyramid scheme. Like, buy from me so I'll have In Jesus' downline? In Jesus' downline. But I wrote a note there that says, because it keeps us from the danger of independence. And, that's like a whole another layer of his goodness. Mhmm. Not just not just am I providing you a solution, but that solution in and of itself is to help you too, to keep you from the danger of independence. And, then, the ointment for your eyes, I wrote, is keeping us from the danger of ignorance. Yes. Just like another layer of his goodness. Yes. You say, I I have, I will spit you. Verse 17, you say, I am rich. I have everything I want. I don't need a thing. But what you don't realize, man, there's there's indifference, there's independence, and there's ignorance in those those those statements. And Jesus is like, I've got the cure and the remedy for all three of those, and it's dependence. I counsel you by from where? Me. From me, Jesus says, coming to him for these goods that seemingly we can't afford. And there's an intentional contrast right there between the present condition of our heart and the standard that Jesus has for us. In that gap is Isaiah 55. So before you turn there, because we're gonna read it, make a little note next to three eighteen and write Isaiah 55, then turn there, and then we're going to read Isaiah 55. Quick thought before we jump to Isaiah 55. Just noticing in verse 17 in the chapter there, because you say I am rich and I've become wealthy and have need of nothing. Just thinking about like in my own life I'm not a wealthy man and I'm constantly tempted constantly like We all live in Jackson. Gosh. Right? Like when am I gonna you know have enough financially yada yada yada but just thinking of all the scriptures that talk about the deceitfulness of riches of of financial wealth and they're all over the place. And there's these scriptures where God says he blesses us in that way too. So it's a it's a tricky thing. Right. But here it's like clearly the deceitfulness of I am rich, I am wealthy, I don't have need of anything. The that is blinding them or it's part of what's blinding that church to their true needs. And it's just like, Lord, in my own life help me to not, you know, overly desire like riches to learn contentment to When I have enough, it's enough because I want to be able to see my state, my spiritual state. But yeah, he says you're poor. You think you're rich. I think we're rich. But you're poor. There's There's a lot. There's so much there to unpack. How do we purchase these costly and valuable things? Number one, Jesus is good that he doesn't just hammer us and then leave us in the dust. He says, I counsel you. Okay, I'm getting the remedy. I'm getting the recipe. I'm getting the cure. Okay? Buy from me. Okay. I'm with you. And then these things. How do I ever afford them? Isaiah 55 fills in the gap. Let me read it for you. Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink, even if you have no money. Come and take your choice of wine or milk. It's all free. Not in the text, but included in that are salve for your eyes, garments of righteousness, gold that has been refined in fire. That's included on the menu. Why spend your money, your time, talent, and energy, your effort on food that does not give you strength, on the appearance of right standing with God? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me and you will eat what is good and you will enjoy the finest of food. Come to me with your ears wide open and listen and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you and I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. See how I used him to display my power among the peoples? I made him a leader among the nations. You also will command nations you do not know and people unknown to you will come running to obey. When they see you turn your cat around. While it's cheap to be able to do that now, in the days ahead, they'll see you being petted by the Lord. His hand is going this way. And because the orientation of the world, it will be calamity, catastrophe, chaos, and confusion. But there'll be a remnant of people who've turned their cat around. And even though it's difficult and even though it's hard and we may experience some material loss, our heart goes like this. That's some good syncing up. Because I, the Lord, your God, and the holy one of Israel, have made you glorious. Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked wicked change their ways. What is that? Turn your cat around. And banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that they may have mercy on them. The mercy is there ready and available. But did you know that some will perish with a with abundant amount of mercy waiting to be tipped out on them. But they just have not asked for it. In their rebellion, in their stubbornness, in their defiance, they they either reject his mercy or they think that their fig leaves of religiousness ain't gonna be enough. The picture that I see in my mind's eye right now is if you ever been to like, one of those, like, indoor water parks, like Great Wolf Lodge? And you know how they have, like, the, like, the water playground with all the water features, but then what's the big, big feature? The bucket dump. The bucket dump. And there's this like hundreds and hundreds of gallons of of water vessel that just slowly fills up, fills up, fills up, and then slowly it begins to tip and it cascades down the roof and then splashes down onto all the kids like flattening them and washing them out into their like parents lawn chairs. Like how many of you know what I'm talking about? There's that there's that bucket of mercy of God That is brimming, dripping over full. But it remains unavailable, unaccessed to some. It is available to all but unaccessed by some. Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. The mercy is there ready and available to be grabbed the hold of, to be manifested, to be expressed, but you have to turn to him. Yes. Turn to the Lord our and he will forgive generously. That's the big bucket. My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the Lord, and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. What he's saying there is the whole world says in this particular way, you know, fill in the blank. Orient your cat this way and it'll go well for you. God's like, that is so different than how I operate and I've called you to be a people that are different. Come out from among the nations. Consecrate yourselves. Be my people and I will be your God. Turn your cat around so that as my hand goes like this across the face of the earth and across every single human heart, your heart will do this. The rain and the snow come down from heavens and they stay on the ground to water the earth sometimes longer than other seasons. They cause the grain to grow producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same way with my word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all that I want it to and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Those prayers you mamas have prayed for your your sons, your daughters, your grandsons, your granddaughters, your nieces, and nephews. There will be a harvest of righteousness that springs up in their lives. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song. It doesn't mean that he's going to eliminate the mountains and hills in your lives, but when you go through them, if your cat is oriented properly, those mountains and difficulties and opposition and hardships, even though you go through the mountains, they will burst forth. So you will be able to see the goodness of God in those things. Come on. Come on. The trees of the field will clap their hands. Where there was once thorn, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord's name, and they will be an everlasting sign of his power and his love. So what is the cost of buying these things? The cost is far greater than any price you could pay on your own. Any attempt to pay for those things that Jesus counsels us to buy, any attempt for us to pay for those things on our own is religion. But Jesus says, even if you don't have money, come order off the menu. Okay. The last thing. How do I actually order off the menu to get those things? I wanna try to get just really practical in the last moment or two that we have. How do I actually make the purchase? Do you have something and then you have something? Okay. Go and then go. It's called humility. It's called turning from your ways to his ways. It's being willing to be embarrassed in front of your brothers and sisters, and it's acknowledgment of your your own failures. Okay. Okay. I think it all boils down to that like next verse that follows up. God saying, hey, buy from me all of these things. And it just says, behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me. Yeah. And it's that acceptance of, yeah, my house is a mess right now because I don't have it all together and God is there. He has all that mercy waiting for you. He has all of those things he wants you to buy with him. William Barclay like talks about it like he has those things with him and all you have to do is let him in and he'll like give them to you. Like that's that's the only like you said, the cost is so much greater than we could ever actually afford, but he just has them there. He's ready to give it freely. All we have to do is just let him in. A suit jacket already cut and fit for you. We were talking about that with Christian earlier. Yeah. Right off that super quick. I was just thinking the phrase open the door. Because he's knocking, you know. He's standing right there just to open the door. And he's safe, you know. I think of the Matthew eleven twenty eight, I'm gentle and humble in heart. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna abuse you. Open the door. Isaiah. Open the door. Isaiah, open the door. Just open the door. You can do that. You don't need money to open the door. Door. You can you can write this down. Here's here's what I said, which is what you've said. The very act of repentance and surrender is turning the cat around. That's what purchases the costly items. Do I have that on that screen, Christian? Did I write that in the notes? Did I have that the very act of repentance? There we go. The very act of repentance and surrender is turning the cat around. And that is what purchases costly items. I'm gonna say what you said but just with different words. Just even that picture of turn the cat around, was thinking the cat is a picture of our soul which we've studied before. In Hebrew means is the word nephes, which is more than just what we can't see on the inside that's giving us life, but also our whole physical being. And with that idea of what we see in the comic of turn the cat around, you're turning the cat's whole physical being around, everything. The parts you can see and the parts that you can't see. Just because you can't see the breath of life inside of that cat, it's getting flipped around. You can't see the organs and the things that are keeping it alive, but it's getting flipped around. And so as you're saying, how do we purchase that? We have to turn our whole lives around, our whole physical being, and it's not and it's the stuff that we can't necessarily see, like we were talking about at the beginning. Like on the outside, it may look just fine, but that surrender includes everything. There isn't anything left behind that doesn't have to turn around. The whole thing has to go. The whole thing has to go. It's good, Joy. Now this is at the keyboard, and I'll invite you to close your eyes, and ask the Holy Spirit if there's a an area of your heart that maybe he would touch and say, hey. So many great things, but I need to point out this in your life today. And there's an invitation to turn your cat around. How do we actually do that? Repentance and surrender. Oh, I so love the character and the nature of the God that we serve. And as we wind down service here today, we get together corporately, and we do certain things. It's how our church service goes, but, man, this should be, like, the smallest slice of your Jesus pie in the week. It's just one time when we come together corporately. And we worshiped him today through his word and through song, and we're gonna worship him just one more time here in our last couple minutes together by bringing our tithe and our offering to him. And like we were talking about today, it's about repentance and surrender and obedience. When we bring our tithe and give above and beyond that our offering to the Lord, it's not because the creator of the universe needs our money. Right? I I always thought that when I was a little kid. We lived in Wisconsin and I remember we the kids church was in the basement kind of like here, but it was like below the ground. And I all every time they would take offering upstairs, they would the ushers would come downstairs and put the money. I would just see them walk by every time in this little closet. And in my little, like, five year old brain, was like, well, I guess the dollars are floating up to heaven, like physically floating. That's just what I had in my mind, which is a cute little five year old thing. But God doesn't need our dollars. He can move in the earth. He created it with his very words. Right? But the wonderful thing about the nature and the character of our God is he knows, and it says this in the Bible, that money can be just one of those things that can hold on to us. Isaiah, you just barely touched on that. It can grip us. Whether you have a lot or little, it doesn't matter. It can be it can grip us. So he asks us to give a portion of our finances not because he needs it, but it's this beautiful exchange where he says, I'm letting you practice obedience in a kind of big area. And the moment that we can just release that to Him and say, God, it is all yours anyway. Finances, relationships, circumstances, I just put it all in your hands and I trust in all areas. So I love that. That's why we bring our tithe and our offering to him. Yes, practically speaking, it keeps a local church running, you know, and it goes out and brings people into the kingdom. That's what we pray. We it's like Wind River, you know, we're going in June. It does practical things, buys diapers for them, food, you know, brings people into the kingdom, but man, it's so much more. It's an obedience practice. And the way that we get better at doing something is practicing it. So what an honor it is to to be able to bring our tithe and our offering so that the Lord can be like, there it is. I just wanted you to practice. Like my friend one time, Angie, she was so feeling so convicted. I need to give this guy in front of me money and standing in the grocery line. And he didn't look like he needed money, but she felt it so strong. She's like, why? He doesn't look like he needs it. And the Lord was just like so pressing on her heart. She was like, okay sir, this is a little awkward but here's some money for your groceries. And he was like, no thanks. She was like, oh, will you just take it? And it was a really weird awkward exchange. And was going to the car, and she was like, God, what was that? Now I'm embarrassed and like, it was silly. And he goes, ah, yeah, he didn't need that. I just wanted you to practice hearing my voice and acting on it. And I know your finger I'll just really, really short. Know my fingers are really, like, riveted. A few weeks later, Angie, my the same friend, her husband was on a business trip and she was in bed. It was the middle of the night and she just woke up with a start. And all you mamas know, the first thing you do when you wake up with a start is check on your babies. You're like, something's wrong. And all her babies were fine, she's like, what? You know, like, she just like, her heart was racing, she didn't have a bad dream, she's like, what in the world? And her husband was on a trip and she didn't know exactly where he was in that moment, but she called him and she's like, what are you doing? He goes, well, I'm about to get on a plane. And then in that moment, the Lord just kind of dropped this thought on her mind. She goes, I don't know why, I don't know how, but she goes, when you get on that plane, physically lay your hand on it and just pray for safety. And he's like, no, that's dumb. He's let's be honest, let's be practical. He's like, okay, no. And she goes, I'm telling you, something woke me up and I'm telling you lay your hand on that airplane and pray over it. And he's like, okay. And so he did, probably like, oh, Jesus name, no no no And the pilots were like, come on, sir. Wherever he was, they were coming in for a landing and something happened with the wings or the engine or something. I'm like, I have no idea. You probably The wings or the engine? Or both? Those two main parts of an airplane. They seem they seem important to the of an airplane. They do. They are. They are. Well, when they were landing, he goes, her husband said, I don't even know how to explain it with words, but we should have like the the wing should have gone into the ground when we were landing like it was toppling and he said, it should have gone into the ground like because I had a window seat and I was like, how did that not just dig into the ground? And he was like, because I laid my hand on and prayed. Okay. So I know those are like wild stories and Angie has all kinds of stories like that. She's such a beautiful her heart is so tender towards the Lord, but it just reminds me how does this tie into tithe and offering? It just reminds us, he gives us little nudges. Just obey. And sometimes it's to save you from an avalanche. And sometimes it's just for you to practice obedience. And if you can practice obedience and get so good at that in one area, that automatically transfers over to other areas. So let's pray as we bring our tithe and our offering to him. Heavenly Father, we just say thank you for who you are. Lord, we say our finances are yours anyway, and you just let us get to be a part. And father, we trust you for your provision. You're a good dad. You wouldn't ask us to give money and then not provide for us in exchange in some way. And Lord, I just thank you that we get to practice obedience when we bring our tithe to you. Lord, thank you that practically speaking, it goes and does your work, your kingdom work in this valley and way beyond. And it just makes your heart so happy as our dad just like, ah, they did it. Okay. I can trust him with the next thing. Thank you for everybody here and every family that's represented and how you are our provider, Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Thank you, father, for who you are in that way. We say thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. And anyway, it's a wonderful experience. So well, we don't have a sign up yet because it's not till June, but mark it on your calendar. Tell Siri to remind you June 1 that you're going to the Wind River VBS in Riverton on the twenty fifth through the twenty eighth. So we'll load up the tri bus. We'll head down there and love on these kids for few days, and it will be amazing. The other thing, on the fridge, there is a sign up for a Tuesday meal. If that's something you're able to do, and Tribe can even help out if you're like, yeah, I'd love to, but I didn't budget for cooking for forty forty people. No problem. We'll help you with that. But sign up for a Tuesday meal even if you come on Sundays. You can just drop it off before. That really blesses everybody on Tuesday night. It blesses Lanisha because she makes dinner like every other week because no signs up. Mhmm. Lanisha is her one of her spiritual gifts. It's true. She wants to share that love though. And or stick around and do dishes. There's all all kinds of ways you can use your time, your talent, your treasure. And the last thing is this, if you're a young adult, not if you identify as one, we can't go. But if you are a young adult, they meet right here at the TNC every other Friday. And so this Friday is the next time they'll be meeting. So come for that. And there's a meal, then Jay will kind of lead us in a not us, but lead the young adults in a bible Like, what'd you guys talk about? So, Brian, will you come praise out, please? Thank you, Amanda. At the top of my notes, I wrote wrap up, but as I was finishing up sermon prep this week, I was thinking about turning that corner and what does it look like for a person who's turned their cat around. So we're gonna continue with this series another week or maybe two, but we're gonna turn the corner and look at the other side of turning the cat around. So that's what we have to look forward to in next few times that we get together. Stand up. Let me pray for you. Lord Jesus, thank you so much for your goodness. Thank you that you tell us like it is, but then you don't leave us up to ourselves to try to figure it out or clothe ourselves with with religious fig leaves, but you offer us real life and the garments and the remedy that you offer is so expensive. We could never afford it, but you freely give it to us if we will just come to you. That's what I pray for all of our tribe family here is that we would come running into your arms to freely purchase what we could never buy on our own. I command a blessing over each and every member of our tribe fam here today that you would cause them to prosper in all that they set their hand to this week. Bless their finances.
