What does Tribe teach about anxiety?

At Tribe, the teaching on anxiety starts with naming something most people already feel but rarely examine: the constant noise of devices, social media, and competing voices trains us to tune in to the wrong signal. Jason, the guest preacher who brought this message, described it as two hotlines available to every person. One leads to condemnation, shame, lies, and fear. The other leads to the voice of a Father who says we are loved, forgiven, and free. He put it plainly: we end up picking up the hotline to hell, which leads to condemnation, accusation, shame, lies, fear, anxiety. The enemy's line, Jason said, is the one many of us pick up by habit, often without noticing.

The answer Jason pointed to is not a technique but a relationship. Because Jesus lives permanently to intercede for those who come to God through him, and because the Holy Spirit is interceding with groanings too deep for words, a conversation about us is already happening in heaven. Prayer is how we put our ear to that line. God has wired human beings from the beginning to receive what he wants to say, and the hotline to heaven is direct and unobstructed for everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus.

One of the first and hardest practical steps Jason named was simply to stop. Hurry, he said, is one of the greatest enemies of the soul. He quoted the spiritual director of C.S. Lewis, Walter Adams, who said that hurry is the death of prayer and only impedes and spoils our work. It never advances it. Slowing down enough to actually listen is where anxiety begins to lose its grip, because it is in that stillness that we stop reaching for the wrong line and start hearing the voice that tells us the truth about who we are.
