What does Tribe teach about beliefs?
Drawn from the message where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At Tribe, the teaching on beliefs starts with a simple but searching question: where are you actually hanging your hat? Jay brought a message built around the image of a hat rack with many hooks, and the core idea is that your beliefs are your hat. You are always hanging them somewhere, whether you mean to or not. Working from Numbers 14, where the Israelites had already seen God work miracle after miracle and still fell apart the moment the spies' report frightened them, Jay showed how easy it is to let circumstances or the mood of the people around you become the thing that shapes what you trust. The Israelites had every reason to believe God and chose fear instead, and that same pull is just as real today.
Jay named three hooks where people tend to hang their beliefs: circumstances, other people, and God. Circumstances are passive, he said. You just drift with whatever is happening around you, the way fear spread through the Israelite camp like a contagion. Trusting in people is better because it involves real choice, but every person will eventually let you down. The Jesus hook, he said, is the only one that actually holds. He was honest that the enemy works precisely at this point: "The enemy gets to us by taking our hat. That's how they steal our heart away." The answer is not to have perfectly sorted beliefs before you come to God. "If the criteria for us to be saved is having all of our hats on the perfect hooks, I don't think any of us are gonna make it."
The practical turn in the message was just as direct. Whatever has been pushing your beliefs around, whether social media, the news, or the people nearest to you, Jay's word was to go get your hat back. "It was never about the hat. Get your hat wherever it is. Pick it up out of the dirt, stretched out, whatever it is." From there, the call is to set your mind on things above, as Colossians 3:2 puts it, and to hang your trust on God's truth rather than on what you can see or feel in any given moment.

The passage taught · 2 Corinthians 13:5
5 Examine your own selves, whether you are in the faith. Test your own selves. Or don’t you know as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
