What does Tribe teach about bible geography?

At Tribe, the teaching on Bible geography starts with a simple challenge: for most people, the physical locations of biblical events are about as vivid as a map of Middle Earth. Brian Hardin addressed that directly in a sermon recorded just before he and Lissa flew to the Middle East to visit what some researchers believe is the actual site of Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia. His argument is that these events happened in real places, and that the location of those places matters for how we read the Bible and how we live our faith.
Brian offered three reasons why pinning down the real location of Sinai is worth caring about. The first is that anchoring the text to actual geography ties faith to history rather than mythology. The second is that this mountain may be worth watching in connection with the return of Jesus, though he set that thread aside for another time. The third, and the one that carried the most weight in the teaching, is that Sinai is where God reveals himself and declares his love, first for Israel and then for all who follow him.
That third reason drew Brian into Exodus 6, where God makes four specific promises before Israel ever reaches the mountain: I will free you, I will redeem you, I will claim you as my own, and I will be your God. He also paused before reading Exodus 19 to note something in the Hebrew text itself: the verbs describing Israel's arrival at Sinai are written in the present tense. The intention, he said, is that every reader who comes to this passage is meant to feel as though they themselves are arriving at the mountain right now, not reading about something that happened long ago. For Tribe, that is the point of Bible geography: not information about ancient places, but a living encounter with the God who met his people there.
