His point was direct: once you decide one part does not have to be taken seriously, you have opened a door that keeps swinging. He also addressed something many people quietly carry, the experience of feeling like Christianity's hook already failed them. His answer was careful: the hook of a charismatic personality, a denomination, or a particular theology can sit very close to the hook of genuine faith in Jesus. When the wrong one snaps, people mistakenly conclude that Jesus himself cannot be trusted. That distinction matters, and Brian's word to anyone in that place was simply, "please don't give up on me."
