What does Tribe teach about born again testimony?

At Tribe, the teaching on being born again is grounded in personal testimony before it is grounded in theology. When Renee shared her story, she described growing up in a home where scripture was memorized and hymns were sung, but where she never found hope in her soul. It was only at sixteen, after a friend brought her to a youth group where she kept having a private thought and then hearing the exact scripture that addressed it spoken aloud, that she gave her heart to Jesus. Years later, after drifting back into sin and depression, a stranger on a bus did the same thing, opening his Bible to whatever she was thinking. Both moments carried the same message: God is always trying to speak to us, and He will find a way through.
The teaching connects that personal experience to the broader story the Bible is telling. Being born again is not presented as a one-time transaction that stands alone, but as the entry point into a life of growing knowledge of God. Second Peter 1:2-4 was read to show that the starting place is knowledge of God, deepened through His word, prayer, worship, and being in community together. The call is not simply to make a decision but to be set apart, morally whole, and free from darkness, which is how 1 John 1:5 describes God himself.
Underneath all of it is the question of who carries the weight. The image Renee brought from Brian's earlier teaching asks who walks out of the Thunderdome, you or Jesus. The testimony she told answers that plainly: she did not find God by getting her life together first. He found her in her lowest moments, through a friend at a youth group and a stranger on a bus, and that is what she wanted the room to hold onto.
