What does Tribe teach about breaking free from sin?

At Tribe, the teaching on breaking free from sin starts with a distinction that Brian returns to again and again: Jesus did not merely cover sin or overlook it. He removed it, nailed it to the cross, carried it in his body, and dealt with it once and for all. Brian draws on the Feast of Unleavened Bread to make this concrete. In Jewish practice, the father of the home searches every corner with a candle, sweeps out every trace of leaven, and burns it. Leaven, in Scripture, stands for sin. The old covenant put the entire burden of removal on the individual, which Brian calls the little pink monkey strategy: the harder you try not to think about something, the more you think about it. The New Testament changes the terms entirely.
The gap between what Scripture says about freedom and what many believers actually experience day to day is real, and the teaching at Tribe does not paper over it. Paul names the tension in Romans 7, and people in the room have named it too. Brian traces that gap back to a single tactic of the enemy: deception. The image he uses is a fired police officer who walks back into the room still wearing the uniform. The authority is gone, but if you believe the costume, you keep obeying. Sin has no legal claim on someone Jesus has set free. The problem is not a lack of freedom; it is not yet believing it fully.
The practical shape of this teaching is less about trying harder and more about where your attention actually goes. Straining to manage sin in your own strength is still slavery, just self-managed slavery. Brian points to passages in Colossians, 1 Peter, and John 8 that all land on the same ground: the freedom Jesus secured is real, it is complete, and it is meant to be walked in now, not earned incrementally.
