What does Tribe teach about clarity in life?

At Tribe, the teaching on clarity starts with a distinction that is easy to miss: being close to something is not the same as understanding it. In a series Brian has been building through early 2024, week five landed on intimacy as the condition that actually produces clarity in a person's life. The series had already traced how clarity comes through simplicity, through worship, through obedience, and through stepping away from noise. This week added the piece underneath all of those: you have to be genuinely close to Jesus, not just religiously near him.

Brian walked the room through two Gospel scenes where that contrast plays out in the open. In Mark 14:1-9, the disciples are physically present with Jesus and completely miss what is happening, while a woman who enters uninvited acts with total clarity about the moment, even anointing him for burial while others see only a dinner. In Luke 7:36-50, Simon the Pharisee hosts Jesus and misreads both him and the woman weeping at his feet, while she, carrying a public reputation as a sinner, is the one who actually understands who Jesus is. Brian drew out what she had that Simon did not: intimacy built on vulnerability and transparency, not on title or social standing.

The thread running through the whole conversation is that clarity is not primarily an intellectual achievement or the reward for being in the right room. It is what grows in people who allow themselves to be genuinely known by Jesus and who respond to him honestly, without waiting for a safer or more private moment to do it.
