At Tribe, the teaching on community in doubt grows out of a close reading of Luke 24 that Brian led at the start of 2024. Working through the passage together as a congregation, with the microphone passing around the room, the group noticed that the disciples on the road to Emmaus were stuck in what Jesus had been and could not yet see what He is. When they spoke only among themselves, clarity stayed out of reach. It arrived when Jesus joined the conversation. That pattern, doubt loosening its grip not in isolation but in the presence of Christ and of others, ran through everything Brian drew from the text.
Several people in the room named what they saw in the passage, and their observations shaped the teaching. Hannah noticed that the angel did not give the women entirely new information but pointed them back to words Jesus had already spoken, which meant clarity was already present, just not yet recognized. Jen Kronberger drew attention to the repeated image of people walking and talking together, and how Jesus joined the disciples precisely in that movement. Someone else observed that Jesus offered physical evidence alongside the miracle, giving the disciples something solid to hold onto when their faith felt unsteady. Doubt, in this reading of Luke 24, is not a sign that someone has been abandoned. It is the terrain Jesus walks into.
Brian framed the year with a word he believes the Lord placed on his heart: clarity in complexity. He was careful not to claim prophetic specifics, only a sense that those whose hearts are open will find increasing clarity about things that were always true but not yet seen. The practical path toward that clarity, he said, is simplicity. Brian says, "As the world gets increasingly more complex, as Christians, there is an invitation from the Holy Spirit for us to pursue simplicity." For anyone sitting in doubt right now, the teaching at Tribe points toward the same remedy the disciples found on the road: keep walking, stay in community, and expect Jesus to show up in the middle of it.
