At Tribe, the teaching on compromising faith starts with a simple image: a cat that likes being petted one way and is not going to change. The point is that God's word and character are fixed, and the drift happens in us, not in him. Amanda Lack, teaching part five of the 'Turn the Cat Around' series, put it plainly: 'He doesn't change. We need to turn our cat around.' The whole message was built around a proactive question, not how to recover once you have drifted, but how to keep from drifting in the first place.
Amanda identified three main ways compromise takes hold. The first is being a poor gatekeeper of what you let in through your eyes, ears, imagination, and habits. Drawing on 1 John 2:15-17, she described the love of physical pleasure and pride in possessions as things that crowd out the love of the Father when they are given room. The second is believing half-truths. A flat-out lie is usually easy to catch, but a half-truth sounds reasonable while hiding the part that damages you, just as the serpent did in Genesis 3. The test she gave was straightforward: is it consistent with God's character, and is it in his word? The third is compromise itself. In human relationships, meeting in the middle is healthy, but God's ways are described in scripture as perfect and higher than ours, so the call is not to find a middle ground with him but to move toward what he says.
Amanda was direct that staying passive is not a safe option. 'Metaphorically staying in your seat or not responding isn't a neutral stance. It's a choice.' She pointed to Revelation 3:15-17 and the church at Laodicea as a warning about what lukewarm faith actually looks like to God, and she closed with the reminder from scripture that 'The Bible's all true or none of it is. It's not pick and choose what feels good today.'
