The word is Hosanna, and it is not a word of praise. It is an Aramaic cry that means "save us." Brian says, "Hosanna is the cry of the human heart that finally realizes we can't save ourselves." That realization, Pastor Brian taught, is not a small thing. It is the turning point everything else depends on.
He grounded that cry in Jeremiah 30, where the prophet describes a wound so severe that no medicine and no human ally can touch it. Only God can heal it. Brian used Israel's future as a mirror for what happens in any heart. He argued that God has been working across all of history to bring people to the place where they finally stop reaching for something else and cry out. He was clear that God is not cruel in that process. As Brian put it, "the chastisements of God are always the least severe measures taken to bring about the maximum possible correction." The pressure is purposeful, and it is aimed at a specific destination: surrender.
The question Pastor Brian left hanging in the room was a personal one. After tracing what it will take for national Israel to finally say "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord," he turned it toward anyone listening who has been treating the counsel of Jesus casually, or who has been waiting to reach the end of their own resources. He asked whether anyone was there yet, at the place where that cry becomes real.
