What does Tribe teach about daily peace?

At Tribe, the teaching on daily peace starts with a simple but disorienting idea: rest is not a reward you earn after the work is done. It is the starting point. Brian Hunter walked through the creation account in Genesis 1 and 2 and pointed out that Adam's very first full day of existence was the day God had already set apart as rest. God did not tell Adam to get after it on day one. He told him to rest first. That pattern, Brian argued, is the pattern Christians are invited into as a "different species of being," because, as he put it, "as a different species, we have a different rhythm."

The teaching drew on the way Jesus lived that rhythm out. Before his public ministry began, he withdrew into the wilderness. After John the Baptist was killed, when every human instinct would push toward action, Jesus got in a boat and pulled away. Even in the middle of a storm at sea, he was asleep. The Pharisees had turned the Sabbath into a rigid religious system, and Jesus pushed back on that directly in Mark 2, making clear it was made to meet people's needs, not to become a burden. Brian named the deeper logic behind all of it: "Rest subordinates our will to that of the Father."

What this looks like in ordinary life is not always a full day set apart. Brian drew a line between a full Sabbath and what he called compressing that rest into a moment, finding peace before responding, before walking into a hard conversation, before pulling out of the driveway. People in the room named what that actually looks like for them: a worship song before driving, a prayer before entering a room, a pause to ask whether a stressor will matter in ten minutes, ten days, or ten months. The congregation closed that morning with communion as a practice of that same principle, and committed together to a 30-day practice on the Pause app to carry it into the new year.
