At Tribe, the teaching on Daniel's prophecy starts with an honest acknowledgment that prophetic texts make people nervous, and Pastor Brian has been direct about that. He has told the congregation it is better to get into these passages, make a mess, and let the Holy Spirit and the wider body of Christ correct you over time than to avoid them entirely. The teaching recognizes that prophecy works in layers, with near and far fulfillments both possible, and that the figure at the center of Daniel 11 is the antichrist.
Brian has grounded the Daniel passages in two foundation texts. Zechariah 13:9 describes God bringing a group through fire and refining them like silver and gold, and Jeremiah 30:7 speaks of a coming time of trouble for Israel known as the time of Jacob's trouble. He is careful to distinguish between God's wrath, God's judgment, and God's chastisement, teaching that the refining fire described in these passages is not punitive but purifying. His summary of what drives all of it is this: God will use the least severe means to bring the greatest number of people into the deepest level of intimacy possible.
The sermon drew a direct and sobering line from those prophetic texts to history. Brian described in detail how restrictions on Jewish life escalated in Europe during the Holocaust, and named the failure of the church in that moment as something Tribe must not repeat. The anchor phrase from Daniel 11:32-35, that a measure of help would arrive during the coming persecution, became a call to decision. Brian says, "Do not think that you have time someday down the road to make a decision whether or not you will be one of those who will stand with Israel." The people positioned to show up in that moment, he taught, are the ones Daniel 11:32 describes: "The people who know their God shall stand firm and take action."
