What does Tribe teach about debt canceled?

At Tribe, the teaching on debt canceled is rooted in the story of a woman who walked into a room where she had no social standing and poured everything she had at the feet of Jesus. Pastor Brian taught from Luke 7:36-50 that what she understood, and what Simon the Pharisee beside her did not, was the weight of what had been forgiven. Her tears, her hair, the alabaster jar she broke open, none of it was performance. It was the overflow of a heart that knew its debt was gone.
Brian drew a sharp contrast between two people in that room. Simon had managed his life well enough on his own terms. He skipped the customary courtesies, water for the feet, a greeting kiss, oil for the head, because he did not feel the need. He had not been undone by anything. The woman had. She had a rough past, had been delivered from evil spirits, and she knew exactly what it had cost her and what it had cost Jesus. Brian's point was that the size of your gratitude is connected to how clearly you see how much has been canceled.
The teaching also pushed into what happens when a person tries to deal with their own insurmountable problems in their own strength. Brian pointed to Zechariah, where the Lord tells Zerubbabel that the mountain will not fall by might or power but by the Spirit. As Brian put it, "If you keep ramming at this mountain in your own strength, you're just gonna end up with a headache, and the mountain will still be there." The canceled debt, the forgiven past, the melted mountain, all of it comes the same way: not by what you can muscle through, but by grace spoken over the situation.
