What does Tribe teach about does life have meaning?

At Tribe, the teaching on whether life has meaning starts with an honest look at where people tend to place their trust for answers. Brian Hunter, working through a series called "Hanging Your Hat on God's Truth," used the image of a coat hook or hat rack to frame the question: every belief you hold is like a hat, and it needs something sturdy to hang on. The concern is not whether a belief feels compelling, but whether the hook can actually bear the weight.

Brian worked through two of the most common places people in the Jackson area hang that hat. The first is creation itself, the mountains, rivers, and wildlife that make the valley genuinely extraordinary. His point was not that those things are unworthy of appreciation, but that they cannot answer the relational longing built into every person, because creation has no personhood and no ability to meet you. The second is the idea that human beings are simply the product of time and chance. If that is true, Brian argued, then meaning and purpose have no real foundation and must be invented rather than discovered.

The answer Tribe points toward is a personal God who created human beings deliberately and who made his clearest move toward us through Jesus. That, Brian taught, is the hook set firmly enough to hold the full weight of a life's worth of belief.
