What does Tribe teach about doubt?

At Tribe, the teaching on doubt begins with a simple but honest observation: most people do not choose where their trust lands, they just drift. Jay, who helps lead young adults at Tribe, built this out of the story in Numbers 14, where the Israelites stood at the edge of everything God had promised and still chose to side with fear. Ten spies told the truth about the obstacle and stopped there. Two said God would deliver it anyway. The crowd went with the ten, and Jay noted that their instinct was to return to Egypt, to familiar suffering, rather than step into an uncertain promise. That pattern, he said, is still how most people handle doubt today.
Jay described three places a person can hang their trust: circumstances, other people, or God. Circumstances are a passive hook because you end up carried by whatever you feel on a given day. Trusting in people, even good ones like a pastor or a parent, is its own risk, because when those people fail, anyone whose faith was really in them rather than in Jesus can end up walking away from the church entirely. The Jesus hook, Jay said, is not always the biggest or the shiniest one in the room, but it is the one that holds.
The practical movement he laid out has three parts. First, get sober-minded about what you actually believe instead of absorbing whatever the news or social media feeds you. Second, examine each hook honestly, looking for where Jesus actually is in the picture even if He is easy to overlook. Third, commit. Jay was clear that holding every belief loosely out of fear of offending someone is not humility, it is just another way of letting circumstances decide for you. The teaching lands on the idea that doubt does not have to be the end of the story, but it does require a decision.
