What does Tribe teach about faith?

At Tribe, the teaching on faith starts with a picture Brian brought to the congregation during worship: a church carnival fishing pond, where a child throws a line over a partition and someone on the other side clips on a piece of candy. In that image, the line is the measure of faith every believer has already been given, and God is on the other side, ready and waiting. The problem most people run into is not that their faith is too small or that their prayers are too weak. Most of the time, people simply do not understand how it works, and they walk away with nothing, disillusioned or even angry at God for not showing up.
Brian is clear that faith is not something you conjure on your own. It works together with the word of God stored inside you and with the leading of the Holy Spirit. He says that the Holy Spirit needs something to work with, and that something is the Scripture you have already taken in. From 2 Corinthians 13:14 and its phrase "the fellowship of the Holy Spirit," he frames the whole life of faith as a partnership, a dance where the Spirit leads and the believer learns to follow. Brian says, "God's grace is not intended to be a hammock where we can be like, oh, God will forgive me. But more like a trampoline to get us back up on our feet." Grace, in other words, is what gets faith moving again when a person has stalled out.
The practical shape of that faith, according to the teaching at Tribe, is built in the ordinary moments before the high-stakes ones ever arrive. Obeying the Holy Spirit in small, mundane things trains a person to recognize that voice clearly when something important is on the line. A member of the congregation put it well during the service: God lets you practice before anything is at stake, so that when something important comes, the voice is already familiar. Faith, as Brian teaches it, is less about a single dramatic leap and more about a long, practiced habit of throwing the line and actually waiting to reel it in.
