What does Tribe teach about faith and money?

At Tribe, the teaching on faith and money starts with a simple observation Brian makes from the gospels: Jesus talked about finances more than he talked about health, and that is not an accident. The connection Jesus keeps drawing is between where our money goes and where our affections actually live. The whole of Matthew 6 makes this clear. The verses about not worrying over food and clothing, the ones that end up on coffee mugs, are not a lesson in anxiety management. Read in context, they flow directly out of what Jesus says about treasure, and they all land on the same point: where we place our money reveals where we place our trust.
The second thread Brian draws out is from Luke 7, the woman who anoints Jesus's feet. Jesus says she has shown much love because she has been forgiven much. Brian is careful to point out that the contrast Jesus is drawing is not about some people actually having smaller debts before God. Romans 3:23 holds for everyone in that room. What was different about the woman was her awareness of what she owed, and that awareness produced extravagant love. The Pharisees, by contrast, had built a false moral accounting system that told them they were basically fine, and that system produced very little love and very little generosity.
The practical through-line Brian returns to is love, trust, and something to work with. Giving is not a transaction or a duty performed at arm's length from the rest of faith. It grows out of a clear-eyed understanding of grace. When someone genuinely grasps how much they have been forgiven, the way they hold their money changes. Tithing, in this teaching, is less about a percentage and more about a posture, one that says God can be trusted with what we have, and that our hearts follow our treasure whether we intend them to or not.
