What does Tribe teach about faith foundations?

At Tribe, the teaching on faith foundations starts with an honest question: where are you actually hanging your trust? Jay, who helps lead young adults at Tribe, brought this out through the story of the Israelites in Numbers 14, who stood at the edge of everything God had promised and chose to go back toward Egypt because the familiar felt safer than the unknown. That pattern, he said, is still the default for most people. Faith does not stay neutral. It lands somewhere, whether on your circumstances, on the people around you, or on God, and the first step is becoming sober-minded enough to see which hook yours is actually on.
Jay was clear that even good hooks can fail. Hanging your trust on a pastor, a parent, or any other person is risky not because those people are bad, but because no one is perfect, and when they fall short, anyone whose faith was really in them rather than in Jesus can end up walking away from the church altogether. Circumstances are just as unstable, because they shift with feelings and with whatever the news or social media is feeding you on a given day. The Jesus hook, Jay said, is not always the biggest or shiniest one in view, but it is the one that holds.
The practical shape of this teaching is three movements: get honest about what you believe rather than just absorbing what surrounds you, examine each hook in your life and look for where Jesus is in the picture, and then actually commit rather than holding every belief loosely to avoid friction. Jay pointed to the Pharisees as a warning about people who studied scripture closely but never let it change where their trust was rooted. The goal is not more information but a settled, deliberate choice to hang your hat on God's truth and leave it there.
