What does Tribe teach about faithfulness?

At Tribe, the teaching on faithfulness starts with the ordinary, not the extraordinary. In the message on God's calling, Lissa Hunter pointed to Philip in Acts 8 and noted that he was not famous before God sent him anywhere. He was chosen because of his character, his wisdom, and because he was known as someone full of the Holy Spirit. The sequence mattered to Lissa: Philip was faithful in practical, unglamorous work first, and that faithfulness in ordinary things came before anything else God asked of him.
Lissa pressed hard on what faithfulness actually looks like when you cannot see the whole plan. Philip was told to go south on the desert road and the text simply says he went. He did not know who he would meet, how he would be provided for, or what would happen. She asked how often we want steps three through ten before we will agree to take step one, and said that is frequently not how God works. The call to faithfulness in that message was concrete: take one step of obedience toward what God has placed in front of you, without needing to see the rest of the path.
She also drew attention to what faithfulness cost Philip. The ministry in Samaria was working. People were being healed. What looked from the outside like a fruitful, efficient situation was exactly what God asked Philip to walk away from, to meet one man on a desert road. Faithfulness in this teaching is not rewarded with a comfortable position. It can mean leaving something that is going well because God points you somewhere else, trusting the next step even when the reason is not yet visible.
