Lissa kept returning to the way Philip's obedience unfolded in stages. He was told to go south toward a desert road, and that was the whole instruction. He did not know who he would meet or what the outcome would be. He simply started out. That picture of stepping forward without the full plan was central to what she was pressing on: God gives smaller opportunities first, and what we do with those is what shapes us for greater ones. God used a painful disruption to move people toward his purposes. Lissa said plainly that "God will use disappointments. He will use closed doors. He will use losses in our life." The point was not that hard things are secretly good, but that faithfulness in the middle of them is never wasted. She also reminded the room that "success is not always the same thing as obedience," which shifts the question away from outcomes and back to the next small step in front of you.
