What does Tribe teach about fear of future?

At Tribe, the teaching on fear of the future starts with a distinction that Brian laid out in the April 2024 message called 'Filtering the Future.' He argues that Christians tend to fall into one of two traps when something unsettling happens in the world: they either dismiss it entirely or panic about it. Neither response, he says, reflects the kind of wisdom God actually calls His people to. The goal instead is to hold real tension without collapsing into certainty too quickly in either direction, the way the tribe of Issachar in 1 Chronicles 12:32 understood the signs of the times and knew the best course to take.

To get there, Brian introduced a framework he returns to throughout the message. Some situations are problems to solve, and some are tensions to manage, and wisdom is largely about knowing the difference. He illustrated this with a story from his own ministry experience, where he and a colleague were fighting over something that only needed to be managed, not won. The same logic applies to how Christians process what is happening around them: the anxious instinct to resolve uncertainty immediately often makes things worse.

Brian's practical answer is to run whatever you are seeing or feeling through three filters together: God's word, the Holy Spirit, and a sound mind. He was clear that all three are necessary and that none of them work well alone. Scripture without the Spirit can be misused. A personal sense of what God is saying should not automatically be pressed onto everyone else. And the sound mind includes wise counsel, an honest look at history, and a willingness to ask hard questions before reaching for the nearest dramatic interpretation. Daniel 12:3, which describes the wise shining as bright as the sky, is the picture he holds out as the aim.
