What does Tribe teach about feeling rejected?

At Tribe, the teaching on rejection starts with the recognition that the people God chooses are rarely the ones the world would choose. Brian walked through the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4 and reconstructed what her life actually looked like before Jesus ever spoke to her. She came to the well at noon, alone, in the heat of the day, because she was the kind of person other people avoided. Her history of five husbands, each marriage ending because only the man could initiate divorce in that culture, meant she had been rejected and discarded five times over. She had no social standing, no pedigree anyone respected, and a ethnic background that made her an outcast to Jewish people as well as a complicated figure among her own community.
What Brian drew attention to was what Jesus actually does. He speaks to her at all, which crossed both an ethnic line and a gender line. He engages her on theology as an equal. He does not treat her history as a disqualifier. The well scenes earlier in Scripture, with Rebecca, Rachel, and Zipporah, all feature women who do hard labor, face harassment, and carry no royal credentials. Brian's point is that this pattern is deliberate: the people who show up at the well are consistently the overlooked and the marginalized, and that is precisely who God moves toward.
The same thread runs through 1 Corinthians 1:26-29, which Brian brought in alongside these stories. The teaching at Tribe holds that feeling rejected, dismissed, or written off by the world does not put a person outside God's reach. If anything, the biblical pattern runs the other direction.
