At Tribe, the teaching on being filled with the Spirit starts with a simple but important distinction. When a person gets saved, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in them fully, not in part. Pastor Brian pushed back gently on the common phrase 'spirit-filled church,' pointing out that if you are a Christian, the Holy Spirit already lives in you according to scripture. The question is not whether He is in you, but whether you are giving Him room to work. As Brian puts it, 'When I get saved, the Holy Spirit lives in me, but he awaits for me to give him permission to operate through me.'
To explain why this matters in daily life, Pastor Brian drew on Romans 7, where Paul describes wanting to do good and finding himself doing what he hates instead. Brian named the same tension plainly: 'The good that I wanted to do, I end up not doing, and the evil I don't want to do, I seem to end up doing.' He used the image of two operating systems running on the same computer. Salvation installs a new and better one, but the old one does not disappear. Every day a believer has to choose which one they live out of, and the Holy Spirit operating through them is what makes the better choice possible over time.
The teaching also pressed into why the baptism of the Holy Spirit is worth taking seriously right now. Pastor Brian pointed to Ephesians 1:17 and the gift of wisdom and insight the Spirit gives, so that a person grows in knowing God rather than repeating the same mistakes. He also noted that as pressure on Christians increases globally, the capacity to stand firm comes from the Spirit living through a person, not from willpower alone.
