What does Tribe teach about finding purpose?

At Tribe, the teaching on purpose starts with the question of where you have hung your hat. Brian Hunter used a passage from Isaiah 22 about a royal official being replaced to introduce a simple but serious image: every belief you hold is like a hat, and it needs something sturdy to hang on. The hook you choose matters, because not everything that offers a compelling narrative can actually bear the weight of a life built on it.

Brian worked through some of the most common places people look for meaning, including the natural world, and macroevolution as an account of human origins. His point was not that mountains or science are unimportant, but that neither can answer the relational longing that sits at the center of every person. If human beings are simply the product of time and chance, then purpose is something you invent rather than something you find. That, Brian said, is not a stable hook.

The more reliable foundation, in Brian's teaching, is that a personal God created each person deliberately and, as he put it, happens to like you perfectly. That kind of purpose is not discovered through achievement or experience. It comes from being known and chosen by a God who made the clearest move toward us through Jesus. The Isaiah image of a peg driven firmly into the wall is the picture Tribe keeps coming back to: purpose that holds is purpose anchored to who God says you are.
