What does Tribe teach about first fruits?

At Tribe, the teaching on First Fruits starts with the ancient observance described in Deuteronomy 26 and Leviticus 23. Brian Hunter walked the congregation through what Israel was commanded to do at the spring barley harvest: bring the very first of what the ground produces, straight to the priest at the temple that same day, no bundling it up or getting around to it later. The priest would lift it up before the Lord, and the person presenting it would recite what God had done, crediting Him before enjoying anything. Brian made the point that these feasts belong to the whole family of God, not only to Israel, and that this particular feast tends to get skipped over in the stretch between Easter and Pentecost.
The heart of the teaching was how Jesus fulfills this feast. Brian took the congregation to John 20 and Mary's encounter with Jesus in the garden on the morning of the resurrection. When Jesus tells her not to hold onto him because he has not yet ascended to the Father, Brian said that moment is the key to the whole picture: Jesus is presenting himself to the Father as the first of the harvest. The teaching drew a careful distinction between resuscitation and resurrection. Lazarus was brought back in the same body he died in. Jesus received what Brian called an upgraded earth suit, a resurrected body. As First Corinthians 15 puts it, He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died, with an order to follow: Christ first, then all who belong to Christ when He returns. Brian says, "Jesus is the first of a great harvest of all who have died."
The resurrection, in this teaching, is not a standalone miracle. It is a guarantee of what is coming for every believer. Brian says, "The resurrection of Jesus gives us great confidence that nothing less than total victory is our destiny." And that confidence is not conditional on a person's track record. Brian was direct about it: "It does not matter where you've been. It doesn't matter how much you have blown it." The first fruits of the harvest have already been presented. The rest of the harvest is on its way.
