At Tribe, the teaching on Jerusalem starts with Zechariah 12, a chapter Pastor Brian walked the congregation through on the first anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack. Brian set the scene: Zechariah was a minor prophet writing to Jewish exiles who had just come back from roughly seventy years in Babylon. They needed encouragement about their immediate circumstances, and yet God chose to speak about events far in the future. That gap became a framing idea for everything that followed, because biblical prophecy tends to carry multiple layers at once, and the sharpest fulfillment of this chapter still lies ahead.
Verses two and three held the center of the conversation. Jerusalem is described as an intoxicating drink that makes surrounding nations stagger, and as an immovable rock that injures anyone who tries to move it. Brian put those images alongside what is unfolding right now, working through Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, and the Houthis, all of it framed against a nation that keeps absorbing blows while its attackers keep hurting themselves. As Brian put it, "Everyone must drink from the cup of Israel. It is a stone in all of our paths."
The teaching also pressed into verse 10, where God says He will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer and the people will look on the one they have pierced. The phrase "on that day" runs through the whole chapter and consistently points toward the second coming of Jesus, which means the most vivid fulfillment belongs to the generation alive when that day arrives. Brian held this as the model Peter set on the day of Pentecost when he quoted Joel: someone who had read scripture carefully enough that when events unfolded around him, he could say, this is that. The goal Tribe is working toward is to read the same way, so that what is happening in Israel right now is recognized rather than missed.
