What does Tribe teach about new life?

At Tribe, the teaching on new life starts with a distinction Brian Hunter makes early in the resurrection series: a person is a spirit, living in a body, and being born again is a spiritual transaction, not a physical one. Without Jesus, a person may have a pulse but is spiritually dead. With Him, everything changes. As Brian puts it, drawing from 1 John 5:12, "He who has the son has life. It don't matter how hard you can ski, how high you can climb, what's in your bank account." New life is not a reward for the right background or the right record. It is received the moment a person makes an exchange with Jesus.
That exchange requires death before it produces life. The old self does not get renovated, it gets crucified. The spirit is renewed at salvation, but Brian is careful to say the mind has to be renewed daily, which is why Romans 12:1-2 sits close to the heart of this teaching. Second Corinthians 5:17 puts it plainly: the old life is gone, a new life has begun. Brian also points to what Jesus says in John 11, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live even after dying," as the ground everything else stands on.
The Feast of First Fruits messages carry this further. Brian connects the resurrection of Jesus directly to the new life available to every believer. Jesus is not simply the first person raised from the dead. He is the first to receive a resurrected body, the firstborn from the dead, and His resurrection is the guarantee of what is coming for all who belong to Him. The resurrection, Brian says, "gives us great confidence that nothing less than total victory is our destiny." And that destiny is open to anyone. "It does not matter where you've been. It doesn't matter how much you have blown it."
