What does Tribe teach about obedience to god?

At Tribe, the teaching on obedience to God starts with a conviction that the power behind a calling is not found in talent or strategy but in the act of obedience itself. In the 'Work Smarter, Not Harder' series, Brian walked the congregation through Gideon's story in Judges 6, where God commissions a man who has done nothing yet and simply says go. Brian drew out that a calling always has a direction built into it, and that you cannot move toward what God has entrusted to you without actually moving. One member of the congregation, Bethany, put it plainly during that message: the power is in the obedience itself, and if we chose our own calling it would lose that quality entirely. The inversion of Peter reaching the educated Jewish world and Paul being sent to Gentiles who, as Brian put it, did not know diddly squat, was offered as evidence that God assigns the calling, and the authority in it flows from doing something you did not choose for yourself.
The earlier 'Walking in the Spirit' series pushed at the same truth from a different angle. Brian argued that obedience done outside of the Spirit, no matter how it looks on the surface, cannot reach God. He was direct about it: Brian says, "God could care less about how many clicks, follows, views, dollars that you've given towards religion. If it is not done in faith, it will burn." He grounded this in Romans 8, sitting with the reality that those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God, and making clear that this includes people doing genuinely good things for the wrong reasons. Religious effort dressed up to look like devotion is still flesh, and Brian said God sees right through it.
What Tribe teaches, taken together, is that obedience to God is not primarily about doing more or doing better. It is about whose authority the doing flows from. When the spirit is in right relationship with God's Holy Spirit, the instruction comes from God, moves through the soul, and the body carries it out. That order, God speaking and a person responding in faith rather than self-direction, is where obedience becomes something real rather than something performed.
