What does Tribe teach about prayer?

At Tribe, the teaching on prayer starts with access. Guest speaker Jason framed it this way: every person who has placed their faith in Jesus has direct, unobstructed access to God, a hotline to heaven that is already open. The enemy, Jason said, has a competing line, one that leads to condemnation, accusation, shame, and fear, and many people pick it up by habit without noticing. The foundation underneath all of this is that God has wired human beings from the beginning to hear his voice, and that Jesus, as a permanent priest, is already interceding for those who come to God through him. Prayer is how we put our ear to that conversation.
Jason offered practical shape to what that looks like. The first move is simply to stop. Hurry, he said, is one of the greatest enemies of a person's soul, and he quoted Walter Adams: "Hurry is the death of prayer and only impedes and spoils our work. It never advances it." The posture of prayer is not frantic, it is still and receptive, oriented toward the one speaking rather than toward the noise competing for attention. That same thread runs through Amanda Lack's message on Samuel, where she drew a sharp line between hearing and listening. Samuel heard God's voice three times before he understood what was happening. Listening, Amanda said, requires your whole posture to be aligned toward the one speaking, which is exactly what Samuel's "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening" describes.
The broader teaching at Tribe connects prayer to a life of ongoing obedience and attentiveness rather than treating it as an emergency tool. Brian has pointed out that the big moments of hearing God clearly are built on a long practice of responding in small, ordinary ones. When that voice has spoken to you again and again in quiet moments, it becomes unmistakable when something important arrives. And when sin or unforgiveness clutters that connection, the answer is not to hide it but to bring it into the open with God, who, as Lissa Hunter put it, does not surface old hurts to throw them in your face but deals with them gently, as someone who wants to actually resolve them.
