What does Tribe teach about tuning your heart?

At Tribe, the teaching on tuning your heart starts with a single Greek word. When John writes in 1 John 1:1 that the disciples touched Jesus with their own hands, Pastor Brian Hunter pointed out that the word carries two pictures: the worn smoothness of a worry stone handled over and over, and the action of plucking or bowing a string on a musical instrument. That second picture became the whole frame. Brian argued that much of the American church has treated Jesus the way a museum treats its exhibits, priceless and roped off, but that was never the point of the Incarnation. Real contact with Jesus is physical, tangible, and resonant.
Brian built a short vocabulary around that musical picture. Frequency, resonance, sympathetic resonance, harmonic resonance. Each term was made audible by Emily on her cello, and each was then set against scripture. John 10:27, "My sheep listen to My voice," became a picture of harmonic resonance: the sheep are not just obeying a command but vibrating at a frequency that matches the shepherd's. Galatians 5:25 described what it looks like to stay tuned to that same frequency in everyday life. Second Corinthians 3:18, being changed into His glorious image, was held up as the long process of a person's natural frequency slowly coming into alignment with Christ's, which never changes. As Brian put it, "When we tune our hearts to Jesus, our whole being begins to resonate with his life."
The teaching landed practically by being honest about where most people find themselves. Not a stool, not a cello, somewhere in the middle. Brian said, "We all need tuning because we're somewhere in between a stool and the cello." Some people may have strings that are muted, and some may feel the warmth the disciples described on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:32, hearts burning as Jesus walked and spoke with them. Either way, the direction is the same: closer contact with Jesus, not more distance from Him.
