What does Tribe teach about abundant life?

At Tribe, the teaching on abundant life is rooted in the Passover story of Exodus 12 and the way it points directly to Jesus. Brian has walked the congregation through the very first Passover, showing how every detail, the lamb cared for and loved before it was sacrificed, the blood applied to the doorframe, the threshold that ancient families stepped up and over as a gesture of covenant participation, was God building a picture of what it costs to enter into life with him. The abundant life Jesus offers in John 10 is not reached by religious effort or tradition. As Brian put it, "Only through the shed blood of Jesus are people allowed to have right relationship with God."
Part of what that life requires is honest reckoning with what gets in the way. Brian used the Passover command to search every corner of the house for yeast as a picture of Psalm 139, where the psalmist invites God to search his heart and point out anything offensive. First Corinthians 5:6-8 makes the connection explicit, calling Christ our Passover lamb and warning that a little yeast spreads through the whole batch. Small compromise works quietly, the way mud accumulates on a bike until you stop caring about the next puddle. The invitation is to let the Holy Spirit do that same searching work.
The threshold of abundant life is not one a person crosses by their own momentum. Brian has pointed out that the Hebrew word for basin in Exodus 12 is the same word for threshold, and that in the ancient Near East the threshold was where the family altar stood, a place of covenant you stepped deliberately into. Communion is the ongoing way Christians step across that same threshold today. And when God seems slow to move, Brian says, "If you have not seen him move in your life in this moment, it does not mean that he is impotent in any way." The blood that opened the door then is the same blood that holds it open now.
