What does Tribe teach about anointing?

At Tribe, the teaching on anointing starts with what the word actually means in practice. Brian used the coronation of King Charles III to frame the contrast: an earthly king is anointed with olive oil in a ceremony stretching back centuries, surrounded by pageantry and crown jewels. But when Brian turned to Isaiah 61, the anointing on Jesus is the Spirit of the sovereign Lord himself, and it arrives with a mission attached: good news for the poor, freedom for captives, comfort for those who mourn. The comparison, as Brian put it, is tree juice against the Spirit of the living God.
The weight of that anointing is inseparable from what Jesus was commissioned to do with it. The Spirit did not simply mark Jesus as royalty in the way a ceremony marks a king. It sent him. Brian says, "His territory now exists in places that no earthly king could ever exert their influence, and that's within the human heart." That is where the anointing does its work, not in ceremony or symbol but in the transformation of people from the inside out.
The teaching holds the gentleness and the authority of Jesus together rather than choosing between them. The anointed king of Isaiah 61 is the same figure Hebrews 1 describes as holding a scepter of justice, and the same one Revelation 2 pictures ruling with an iron scepter. Brian's point is that these are facets of one person, not contradictions, and that the Spirit poured out on Jesus carries the full weight of all of them.
