What does Tribe teach about antisemitism?

At Tribe, the teaching on antisemitism starts with a definition Brian Hunter laid out plainly for the room: hostility, prejudice, or hatred directed toward Jews simply because they are Jews. He was careful to say that calling out a Jewish individual for a specific wrong is not antisemitism, and that, as Brian put it, "Having two eyes and a critical thinking brain to see what's going on in the world does not make you antisemitic." What he pressed the congregation to take seriously is that human hearts are fertile soil, and a root of antisemitism can grow there without a person ever using the word about themselves. Gretchen added that selective outrage, being quick to condemn Israel for something another country does with no reaction, is a warning sign worth honest attention.
Brian traces the origin of that hostility deeper than politics or ethnicity. Working through Genesis 16 and 25, he establishes that the conflict between the Arab world and Israel has a family root in the relationship between Ishmael and Isaac, with the prophecy over Ishmael, that he would be a wild man living in open hostility with all his relatives, playing out across history in ethnic, geographic, and religious threads. But the deepest root, Brian argues, is spiritual. The same word used for Hagar's contempt toward Sarai, treating someone lightly, not giving them proper weight, is the spirit that drove Lucifer to exalt himself above God's throne. Cast out of heaven and unable to attack God directly, Satan has raged against the nation that carries the promise of his own defeat. Brian says it plainly: "Antisemitism is the serpent's fury against the nation that bears the promise of defeat."
The series made clear that this is not a topic Christians can treat as distant or academic. Brian drew a direct line from theology to consequence, showing how dehumanizing a people moves in stages from generalization to villainizing to demonizing to violence, and pointing to the Holocaust as a historical case where the church sat silent while that progression ran its full course. He named Israel as this generation's major fork in the road and warned that "failure to have right thinking about Israel will result in either blatant or inadvertent antisemitism." The call to the congregation was not to panic but to be people who know what they believe and why, with enough oil in their lamp to stand rightly when the pressure to accept dehumanizing narratives increases.
