At Tribe, the teaching on Bible truth starts with a straightforward question: what is your belief actually resting on? Brian Hunter used the image of a hat rack to work through this. Every belief you hold is like a hat, and the hook it hangs on is the narrative or foundation you have chosen. The problem is that a hook can look solid and still snap under the weight you put on it. Brian put it plainly: "The most compelling narrative is the most likely to get your belief," and compelling does not mean true.

When it comes to scripture specifically, Brian pushed back against the growing cultural habit of treating the Bible as something you are free to pick through, accepting the parts that feel right and setting aside the rest. His point was that once you decide one part does not have to be taken seriously, you have opened a door that keeps swinging. Psalm 119 verses one through eight grounded that moment in the message, with Brian drawing out the posture of someone who lets God decide where each belief belongs rather than reorganizing the hat rack on their own terms.

Brian also addressed the honest experience of people who felt like the Christian hook failed them. His answer was that the hook of a charismatic personality, a denomination, or a particular theology can sit very close to the hook of genuine faith in Jesus, and when the wrong one snaps, people mistakenly conclude that Jesus himself cannot be trusted. The two are not the same, and the distinction matters.
