At Tribe, the teaching on big dreams starts with a simple but unsettling observation: most of us, especially in the Western church, quietly bury God-given dreams before they ever get started. The guest speaker who brought this message had just returned from the Dominican Republic, where a Young Life volunteer's vision of packing a professional basketball stadium with high schoolers from multiple cities did not get shot down by opposition. It got buried by logistics. That instinct to immediately calculate the obstacles, the speaker argued, is often how gospel dreaming dies.

The teaching worked through Nehemiah chapter two to show what it looks like to carry a dream that genuinely requires God to show up. Nehemiah was not a prophet or a pastor. He was a cupbearer, a poison-tester, who let his heart break over Jerusalem's rubble and then did something about it. The congregation noticed that he prayed before he spoke, gave God credit when the king said yes, and asked to be sent rather than just asking to go. None of it was safe. Showing up visibly sad in the king's court could get a person killed, and asking for royal lumber to rebuild what could be seen as an enemy city was no small risk. The dream required genuine trust.
