What does Tribe teach about cancel culture?

At Tribe, the teaching on cancel culture starts with a simple observation: the same cultural moment that produced a genuine hunger for social justice also produced the impulse to silence voices that challenge the self. Brian Hunter asked the congregation to sit honestly with how quickly Jesus himself would be canceled if he were preaching today, not as a rhetorical flourish, but as a real question about what Jesus actually said and whether modern culture could tolerate it.
The deeper diagnosis Brian offered is that society has pushed the God of the Bible so far to the margins that something else has filled the space. As Brian put it, "We've pushed God so far into the margins that we have created this god shaped vacuum in the human heart." What fills that vacuum is the self, and cancel culture, in this reading, is one of the tools that protects the self from anything that would challenge its authority. Brian pointed out that no one in the room is immune to this pull, not just people outside the church.
The murder of Charlie Kirk gave the teaching a concrete weight. Brian named it directly as an act of cancellation carried to its furthest conclusion, an attempt by an enemy whose stated goal is to steal and to kill, to silence a voice that held biblical values. Brian noted that Kirk was killed for the same convictions many in the congregation hold, which makes the question personal rather than distant. He also pointed to a woman in the congregation who, the day before, had told a friend that tarot card reading was dangerous, something she said she would have stayed quiet about before Christ. Brian held that moment up as a small, ordinary version of the same courage, the kind of cross-daily-carrying that Jesus described in Luke 9.
