What does Tribe teach about crown of life?

At Tribe, the teaching on the crown of life starts with the plain words of James 1:12 and Revelation 2:10: the crown of life belongs to those who patiently endure testing, and to those who remain faithful even when faithfulness costs them everything. Brian Hunter worked through these passages carefully, pausing to point out that the image behind the word crown is not a jeweled royal crown but a laurel wreath of olive leaves, the kind placed on the head of a winner at the Olympic games in Jesus' day. The reward is about victory and achievement, not status or pageantry.
Brian placed the crown of life alongside other New Testament descriptions of reward and showed how they all point in the same direction. The crown of righteousness in 2 Timothy 4:8 awaits those who eagerly look forward to Jesus' return. The faithful servant in Luke 19 is handed governance over ten cities. Paul describes faith refined like gold through fire. None of those pictures map neatly onto each other, but Brian said they all converge on honor, increased responsibility, and a share in the reign of Jesus. The crown is the symbol that holds them together.
The congregation at Tribe worked through what this teaching means in practice through the lens of Charlie Kirk's death, which was still fresh when these messages were preached. Brian asked the room to sit with Revelation 2:10's promise to those who are faithful unto death, and several people in the congregation responded with what that passage now speaks to those Kirk left behind. The thread running through the whole conversation was not just what the crown is, but what we do with it. Revelation 4 shows the elders laying their crowns back at the feet of Jesus, and Brian said, "I want you to receive a full reward so that you will have more to lay back at his feet."
