What does Tribe teach about faith doubt?

At Tribe, the teaching on faith and doubt starts with a simple image: a hat rack. Brian Hunter uses it to explain how every belief you hold is only as stable as the foundation, the hook, it rests on. The culture is full of hooks that look solid, and Brian says that the most compelling narrative is the one most likely to win your belief, but compelling does not mean true. A hook can appear trustworthy and still snap under the weight you place on it.

One of the most honest moments in the teaching comes when someone in the room raises a real question: what if you already tried Christianity and felt like it failed you? Brian's answer is careful. He points out that a charismatic personality, a denomination, or a particular theology can sit very close to the hook of genuine faith in Jesus, close enough that when the wrong one gives way, people walk away convinced that Jesus himself cannot be trusted. The doubt, in other words, may be entirely real, but it may be aimed at the wrong target.

Brian draws on Psalm 119 verses one through eight to describe what it looks like to let God decide which hook each belief belongs on. The posture he points to is not certainty achieved on your own terms but a willingness to say, in the words he reads from that psalm, "please don't give up on me." Reorganizing the hat rack yourself, deciding which parts of scripture have to be taken seriously and which do not, opens a door that keeps swinging. The teaching asks whether the hooks you are trusting are strong enough to hold what you are hanging on them.
