What does Tribe teach about finding god?
Drawn from the message where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.
At Tribe, the teaching on finding God starts with the conviction that God is always reaching toward us, even when we are not looking for him. Renee, a Tribe member since the church began, shared from her own life how this works in practice. Growing up in a home where faith was mostly memorization, she drifted and struggled, and at two separate moments in her life, once at sixteen through a youth group and once years later through a stranger on a bus, she experienced scripture meeting her exact thoughts in real time. Both moments pointed her to the same conclusion: God is always trying to speak to us, and he finds ways to break through.
The teaching from Leviticus carried the same thread. Renee's conviction was that even the most unfamiliar corners of scripture are God reaching toward his people. She put it this way: "God is always writing us a love letter. And in Leviticus today is where I'm going to attempt to reveal his love letter to us." The animal sacrifices, the blood on the altar, the specific regulations, all of it was God closing the door on every false way of seeking him and pointing forward to Jesus, the one John the Baptist identified in John 1:29 as the lamb of God.
For anyone feeling distant from God or unsure how to find him, the teaching at Tribe holds that the path is not self-improvement or perfect obedience. The whole system of sacrifice in Leviticus existed because holiness is a perfection none of us can produce on our own, which is exactly why Jesus came. The altar is no longer a physical structure. What was once done with blood on stone has now been done to the human heart.
