What does Tribe teach about god's sovereignty?

At Tribe, the teaching on God's sovereignty starts with the conviction that he owns everything and answers to no one. Brian Hunter has grounded this in three passages that he treats as non-negotiable foundation stones. Psalm 24:1 establishes that the earth and everything in it belongs to the Lord. Daniel 4:35 makes clear that he does what he pleases among angels and among people, and no one can stop him or demand an explanation. Leviticus 25:23 presses it further: even the land God gives his people is still ultimately his, and they are tenants, not permanent owners. The point Brian draws from all three is that God is not running his decisions past us for approval, and that his sovereignty holds even when we find ourselves in prayer wondering why.
That sovereignty does not require the people or movements God works through to be clean or impressive. In week six of the series, Brian made this case through King Cyrus of Persia, a pagan idol worshiper who received worship himself, yet whom God calls 'my shepherd' and 'his anointed one' in Isaiah 44 and 45. The congregation was invited to sit with that tension rather than resolve it too quickly. The lesson Brian drew is that God's gifts and calling are irrevocable, a point he anchored in Romans 11:28-29 specifically in the context of Israel, and that the imperfection of the instruments he chooses does not compromise what he is doing through them.
Pastor Brian has also pressed the congregation to take God's sovereignty personally, not only as a theological position about history and nations. The same God who owns the earth has spoken specific promises over specific people, and Brian says, "That old dirty devil will try to cheat you out of land and say that that's too much to ask." The broader series treats God's sovereign purposes in redemptive history and God's sovereign purposes in an individual life as the same story told at different scales.
