At Tribe, the teaching on Jesus fulfilling the feasts starts with the Feast of First Fruits, which Brian Hunter walked the congregation through in depth. Brian showed that this spring feast, which falls between Passover and Pentecost, is not a relic of Israel's calendar but belongs to the whole family of God. Drawing from Deuteronomy 26 and Leviticus 23, he pointed out that the ancient instruction was precise: the very first of the harvest goes to the priest at the temple that same day, lifted up before the Lord before anything else is enjoyed. The ritual was designed to make the worshiper stop and credit God before touching a single thing for themselves.
From there, Brian took Tribe through John 20 and Mary's encounter with Jesus in the garden on resurrection morning. The moment Jesus tells her not to hold onto him because he has not yet ascended to the Father is, Brian argued, the hinge of the whole feast. Jesus is presenting himself to the Father as the first of a great harvest before anything his resurrection makes possible can flow to anyone else. Brian drew a careful distinction between what happened to Lazarus, who was resuscitated back into the same body, and what happened to Jesus, who received what Brian called an upgraded earth suit, a true resurrection body. First Corinthians 15:20-23 was read aloud and stayed at the center of the teaching: there is an order, Christ first, then all who belong to Christ when he returns. Brian says, "Jesus is the first of a great harvest of all who have died."
The conclusion Brian kept returning to was that the resurrection is not a standalone miracle. It is the guarantee of what is coming for every believer. Brian says, "The resurrection of Jesus gives us great confidence that nothing less than total victory is our destiny." That confidence, he said, holds regardless of a person's history, because as he put it, "It does not matter where you've been. It doesn't matter how much you have blown it."
