What does Tribe teach about joseph and his brothers?

At Tribe, the teaching on Joseph and his brothers grows out of the ongoing Unbreakable series on Israel and God's faithfulness. Brian introduced the Genesis 37 story of Joseph as a way to frame something larger: a long pattern of what he calls vandalism committed against the Jewish people across thousands of years. Joseph, sovereignly chosen and given a distinctive coat by his father, puts on that coat to go check on his brothers, and they respond by plotting to kill him. Brian used that moment as a lens for understanding hostility toward Israel, not as an isolated family drama but as an early instance of a recurring historical reality.
The Joseph narrative sits inside a broader question Brian has been working through across the series: who exactly is Israel, and who is a Jew? He has built a Venn diagram with three overlapping circles, covenantal faithfulness, genealogical descent, and sovereign election, and he argues that a working definition needs all three. Without it, he said, a person either stumbles through conversations from ignorance or becomes vulnerable to narratives whose real goal is to dehumanize and ultimately do violence to Jewish people. The story of Joseph is one place where that kind of destructive intent shows up early and close to home, inside a family rather than between nations.
Brian closed the teaching by setting up two questions the rest of the series will turn toward: why does this hostility exist, and where is it heading? He offered something steady to hold onto in the meantime. Brian says, "The Lord would say, the restoration of all things is coming. His heart breaks that you have been vandalized, and he will make all wrong things right."
