What does Tribe teach about joseph and jesus?

At Tribe, the teaching on Joseph and Jesus starts with a literary idea Brian calls types and shadows. The Bible, he argues, uses earlier figures and events to point forward to Jesus, and Joseph is one of the clearest examples of that. Brian walked the congregation through Genesis 45, the moment Joseph reveals himself to the brothers who sold him into slavery twenty-two years earlier, and let the room itself surface the connections: Joseph's obedience mirroring Jesus' obedience, his forgiveness of the brothers pointing to Jesus forgiving his torturers from the cross, his provision of grain for desperate people reflecting the way Jesus becomes sustenance for the soul, and the eleven brothers standing before Joseph in fear echoing the eleven disciples who encountered the risen Jesus.

Brian slowed down on verse five, where Joseph tells his brothers not to blame themselves because God was the one who sent him ahead. He pointed to the Hebrew root behind the word translated 'preserve,' connecting it to the root of Mashiach, and noted that Joseph's Egyptian name carries the meaning of savior. That web of detail, Brian said, was not coincidence. Joseph was shaped by God to prefigure the Messiah, so that when Jesus arrived, the story would already feel familiar. As Brian put it, 'There is nothing in this life, in this world that we will ever go through that Jesus is not the forerunner.'

The teaching is clear that none of the credit for what Joseph accomplished belongs to the brothers or to Joseph himself. Salvation is by grace, not works, so that no one can boast. Joseph himself says as much: 'It was not you who sent me here but God.' Brian read that line as a window into how the whole story works, God arranging events across decades to preserve life, and Jesus doing the same across all of human history.
