What does Tribe teach about salvation?

At Tribe, the teaching on salvation starts with the claim Jesus makes in John 14:6 and the honest admission that the claim is offensive. Brian Hunter opens with the question of why Jesus would be canceled for saying he is the only way to the Father, and he does not soften the answer: Jesus is being exclusive, and the culture has always had trouble with that. Every religion humans have invented, Brian says, involves people climbing their own way toward God. Jesus says that climb is impossible, and he has already done something about it.
What keeps the exclusivity from being bad news, Brian argues, is that the offer is thrown completely open once you understand how it works. Working through Ephesians 2 and Romans 10, he walks the congregation through the logic: salvation is by grace through faith, not by anything a person has achieved or earned. The scope of the invitation is as wide as language allows, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, but there is only one name. Brian says those two things are not in contradiction. As he puts it, there are a million ways to Jesus, and there is only one way to God, and that is through his son.
The hinge, Brian says, is humility. James 4:6 holds the whole argument together: pride keeps a person on the outside, and humility is what opens the door. Brian says, "Humility is the key that unlocks the doors of God's grace." The hard work of salvation is finished. What is required is not effort but the willingness to stop trusting in one's own standing and receive what Jesus has already provided.
